John Bush
BRINGHURST -- John A. Bush, DVM, 68, 1275 S. 50 E., died unexpectedly at 5:59 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Logansport Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 24, 1931, in Chandlerville, Ill., he was the son of Agnes V. (Riney) and Charles E. Bush Sr. On June 19, 1954, in Romney, Ind., he married
Virginia L. Naylor, who survives.
He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1948. He attended Purdue University for two years, and graduated from Iowa State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1954. He had been a resident of Bringhurst since 1954, when he began his veterinary practice in Flora. His son joined him in April 1990 and he continued to practice until his death.
He was president and a member of Carroll County Board of Health; served on Carroll Consolidated School Board for 15 years; was in the inaugural class of inductees to the Carroll County Agriculture Hall of Fame, in 1994; longtime supporter of County 4-H and Future Farmers of America programs. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association; American Association of Swine Practitioners; Indiana Veterinary Medical Association; West Central Indiana Veterinary Medical Association. During his 45 years of practice, he was instrumental in the eradication of hog cholera in the late 1960’s. He diagnosed pseudorabies in Carroll County in 1956, and was nationally known for his field research of the disease. He was a member of Flora United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Joe Beale, Delphi; Jane and Sam Zook, Flora; two sons, Randy Bush, DVM and Jay G. Bush, both of Flora; his mother, Agnes V. Bush, Lafayette; a brother, Charles E. Bush Jr. MD, Kirklin; two sisters, Charlene Bowman and Norma Burton, both of Lafayette; thirteen grandchildren.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Flora United Methodist Church. Pastor Larry DeVos will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Baker Funeral Home, 204 S. Center St., Flora. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Dr. John A. Bush Memorial Youth Fund, c/o Union Planters Bank, Delphi. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Roderick Hobbs
TIPTON -- Roderick L. Hobbs, 87, R.R. 4, died at 6:40 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Autumnwood Village Apartments.

Lucille Rush
Lucille I. Rush, 82, 9219 E. State Road 218, Galveston, died at 8:37 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in Logansport Hospital. Born June 22, 1917, in Deer Creek Township, Cass County, she was the daughter of Robert and Honor (Weaver) Plank. On Aug. 27, 1939, in Walton, she married
Chester A. Rush, who died March 4, 1992.
She graduated from Young America High School in 1935. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband farming. She was a member of Walton Christian Church, where she was baptized Nov. 5, 1939. Her life was her gardening, yard work, children and grandchildren.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Susie Rush, Walton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris R. and Jack Chambers, Logansport; Judy and Bill Hopper, Galveston; a sister, Margaret (Sally) Moss, Logansport; six grandchildren, Greg and Roger Rush; Angie Pate, Claudia Mager, Cara Stienbarger, Calvin Chambers; three great-grandchildren, McKenna and Alyssa Rush and Sydney Pate. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Murray Funeral Home, Galveston Chapel. The Rev. Ken Marsh will officiate. Burial will be in Walton I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Walton Christian Church.

ARCADIA -- Gertrude M. Presler Etchison, 97, 308 W. Main St., died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Autumnwood, Tipton County Memorial Hospital.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Opal Hannah Sibray, 98, 5930 Broadway, where she had been a resident for 30 years, died at 10:53 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000.

Margaret Rutherford
Margaret E. Rutherford, 86, 2233 W. Jefferson St., died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Northwoods Village Health Care Center. Born May 14, 1913, in Loyston, Tenn., she was the daughter of Daniel Roscoe and Martha Ann (Miller) Graves. On June 30, 1929, she married
Alonzo B. Rutherford, who died July 18, 1982.
She was a homemaker and a member of West Middleton United Methodist Church.
Surviving are six sons and five daughters-in-law, Harold and Phillis Rutherford, Jimmie Rutherford, Fred and Clara Rutherford, Kenneth and Mary Rutherford and Wayne and Connie Rutherford, all of Kokomo; Robert and Anna Mae Rutherford, Russiaville; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Rick Shilling, Kokomo; sister, Linnie Ryan, Kokomo; brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Wilma Graves, Rochester; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and three sisters.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. The Rev. James A. Richey will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Garden Mausoleum. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Gladys Meyers
Gladys Caroline Meyers, 90, Kokomo, died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at her residence. Born July 9, 1909, she was the daughter of Michael and Nora (Weishaar) Harnish. On July 2, 1925, she married
Roy E. Myers, who died June 6, 1973.
She worked at Kingston Products for 14 years until becoming a full-time homemaker. She and her husband built three houses together. She laid the stone fireplaces all by herself. A real pioneer woman, she was skilled at sewing, cooking, knitting, crocheting, gardening and carpentry. She also enjoyed auction sales, dancing, playing cards, reading, animals and her grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Saint Joseph at Home’s nurses and aids, and longtime family friend Carolyn Watkins.
Surviving are an adopted daughter, Carol Krause, Kokomo; two granddaughters, Linda Krause, Kokomo; Lisa Crouse, Florida; two great-grandsons, Dustin Gingerich and Zachary Crouse, both of Florida; brother-in-law, Ben Myers, Florida; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Sanders, Kokomo. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a foster son.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary, Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St. Grace Whitehead will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Point cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
James Owens Jr.
THORNTOWN -- James Lee Owens Jr., 90, 3554 N. 900 West, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at his residence. Born Jan. 31, 1910, in Rosedale, he was the son of James Lee Owens and Minta Eliza Wall. He was married
to Thelma Louise Cox, who died in 1934. In Plymouth on Oct. 4, 1947, he married
Audrey Elaine Peters, who survives.
He graduated from Kempton High School in 1928. He received his bachelor’s of science from Ball State University in 1932, and a master’s degree from Purdue University in 1944. He was a dedicated educator and served as a teacher, coach and administrator at many school districts. He was principal of Dover Junior High School from 1963 to 1974. He loved his family, farming, gardening and woodworking.
Surviving are seven daughters, Norma L. Smith, Sheridan; Peggy L. Collett, Westfield; Kathy A. Owens and Dr. Connie M. Owens, both of Logansport; Jeanie L. Harding, Farmers Branch, Texas; Lorie E. Hunter, Farmington Hills, Mich.; Rebecca J. Threlkeld, Thorntown; five sons, Marvin R. Owens, Orlando, Fla.; Dorwin M. Owens, Marion; Denny K. Owens, Novato, Calif.; Christopher Owens, Oakland, Calif.; James L. Owens III, Elkton, Md.; two sisters, Dortha Allgood, New Port Richey, Fla.; Iva McCreay, Indianapolis; 28 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife; three sisters and a brother.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Thorntown Methodist Church. The Revs. Phil Brenneman and Don Hainer will officiate. Burial will be in Jamestown IOOF cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8:30 p.m. today at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, 223 N. Meridian St., Lebanon, and an hour prior to the service at the church Saturday. Paskel ‘Pat’ Taylor
Paskel "Pat" "PT" J. Taylor, 68, 608 E. Payton, Greentown, died at 2:20 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Howard Community Hospital. Born Oct. 23, 1931, in Packard, Ky., he was the son of Joseph and Sarah (Young) Taylor. On Jan. 10, 1948, he married
Roberta (Payne) Taylor, who survives.
He was employed at Continental Steel until it closed in 1985. He also ran Greentown Fruit and Vegetable Market since 1973.
Surviving are his wife, Roberta, Greentown; two daughters, Barbara Johnson, South Bend; Cindy Riggs, Monroe, La.; five grandchildren, Eli, Josh, Callie and Marybeth Riggs and Brant Johnson; mother, Sara Edna Taylor, Center; three brothers, Roy and Raymond Taylor, Center; Henry Taylor, Henryville; two sisters, Christine Baily, Center; Edith Thieke, Greentown. He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters.
Services are noon Sunday at Jones & Son Funeral Home, Williamsburg, Ky. The Rev. Don Matthews will officiate. Burial will be in Slusher cemetery, Rock Holds, Ky. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hasler-Pickett Funeral Home, Greentown, and from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Jones & Son Funeral Home, Williamsburg, Ky.

Ruthanna Cory
Ruthanna Cory, 90, Galveston, a resident since 1974, died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Century Villa Health Care, Greentown. Born Dec. 15, 1909, in Miami County, she was the daughter of Robert F. McConnell and Gertrude (Young) McConnell. In 1929, she married
N.D. Cory, who died in 1971.
She was a graduate of Bunker Hill High School and Rochester Junior College, Rochester, Minn. She was a member of Columbia Club; Elks Lodge in Muncie; Northview Christian Church, Kokomo, and was Past Worthy Matron of the Speedway Order of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, investing stocks, flowers and gardening.
Surviving are a son, Ralph N. Cory, Chicago; two sisters, Betty Morrison, Monticello; Frances Brown, Galveston; a brother, Robert F. McConnell, Miami County. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Donald E. Cory; three sisters, Alice McConnell, Mary Mobley and Helen Kling.
Services are 1 p.m. Sunday at Murray Funeral Home, Galveston Chapel. Burial will be in Galveston cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
