Daniel Poling
MARION -- Daniel C. Poling, 77, 814 E. 29th St., died at 4:55 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Marion General Hospital. Born Jan. 19, 1922, in Marion, he was the son of Homer and Mary Elizabeth (Helm) Poling. On Nov. 8, 1942, he married
Dorothy Noggle, who survives.
He was a Marion resident for most of his life. He was a U.S. Army Aircorp veteran, serving in communications during World War II. He retired from the Marion General Motors Plant in May, 1999, after 30 years. He previously worked at RCA and Farnsworth for 19 years. He was a member of the McGrawsville United Methodist Church where he was a lay elder. He was president of the Marion District of the United Methodist Men. He had previously attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church for 30 years. He was loved by many and a friend to all.
Surviving are his wife of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Joylynn Poling, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Danella "Nell" Poling, Urbana, Ill.; Darlene "Dee" and Gary Hostetler, Kokomo; Donna and Danny Shaneyfelt, Hartford City; Denise and Nick Harkin, Novato, Calif; two nephews, Larry and Terry Poling; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Needham-Storey Funeral Home, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. The Rev. Greg Hiatt will officiate. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory cemetery, Huntington. Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Phillip Nicholas
BROWNSBURG -- Phillip Lee Nicholas, 63, 1010 Hornaday Road, died at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Born Nov. 18, 1935, in Frankfort, he was the son of Fred and Mildred (Wyatt) Nicholas.
He was a 1954 graduate of Frankfort High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Kokomo Fire Department. While living in Boynton Beach, Fla., he served as manager for the Bucky Dent Baseball Camp for five years.
Surviving are his step-mother, Shirley Nicholas, Frankfort; son, Kevin Nicholas, Del Ray Beach, Fla.; brother Tim Nicholas, Lafayette; sister, Alyce Miller, Indianapolis.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. The Rev. Paul G. Stanifer will officiate. Burial will be in Kilmore cemetery. Vandella Ramer Hill
Vandella Ramer Hill, 75, Kokomo, died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Saint Joseph Hospital & Health Center. Born July 14, 1924, in Union County, Tenn., she was the daughter of Ola I. (Loy) and Oscar Hopper. She was married
to Wilbur Dee Ramer, who preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Nevada Church of God.
Surviving are four sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael K. Ramer and his fiancee’ Janet Edwards; Stephen E. and Vivian Ramer; Joe Ramer, all of Kokomo; Rick and Donna Ramer, Bel Air, Maryland; a daughter, Idena Sue Baugh, Kokomo; two sisters, Loretta R. Hopper and Shirley Landrum, Kokomo; seven grandchildren, Chad, Erik, Adrianne, Dustin, Joshua, Zachary Ramer, and Uriah Baugh; three great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Alise and Lydia Ramer. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two brothers.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. The Rev. Kenny Ellis will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Point cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Lorene Utterback
Lorene Utterback, 89, Sycamore Village Nursing Home, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Howard Community Hospital. Born Sept., 21, 1910, in Jefferson County, she was the daughter of Duet and Abbie (Jenkins) Newman. She was married
to George Hardesty, who died in 1935. Her second husband, Harry Utterback, passed away Aug. 21, 1986.
She retired as housekeeping manager at Hanover College. She was a former member of Hanover Events Club. She had worked for Dr. Anna Goss-Turner, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Barnes, and others. She also worked for various fraternities. She was a member of Paynesville Christian Church.
Surviving are four grandchildren, including Carol Williams, Kokomo; seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; daughter, Wanda Melton, who died Oct. 23, 1992; sister, Pricilla Tucker; two brothers, Murett and Wilmer Newman.
Services were 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at Lytle-Gans-Andrew Funeral Home, Madison. Pastor Bob Hicks officiated. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Visitation was 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association.
Elsie Schilling
Elsie Kissel Schilling, 91, Greentown, formerly of Shelby, Marion, and Hancock counties, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Century Village. Born Jan. 23, 1908, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Henry W. and Sophia (Mithoefer) Kissel. She was married
to Norman Schilling, who died in 1992.
She and her husband were farmers in Shelby, Marion, and Hancock counties.
Surviving are two sons, Marvin and Dale Schilling; two daughters, Shirley Rund and Nelda Zwager; sister, Cora Derrickson, Indianapolis.
Services are 11 a.m. today at Hendryx Mortuary, Indianapolis. The Rev. Glenn Kimble will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial cemetery, Indianapolis. Calling was 4 to 8 p.m. yesterday.
Ross McGraw
SHARPSVILLE -- Ross L. McGraw, 68, 5182 N. 800 W., died at 12:01p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Howard Community Hospital, Kokomo. Born Feb. 15, 1931, in Sharpsville, he was the son of Guy and Bessie (Nash) McGraw. On Feb. 15, 1951, in Kokomo, he married
Margaret Wanda (Hale), who survives.
He was a 1948 graduate of Prairie High School. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1990, after 30 years of service. He was also actively farming until his death. He had two homestead farms from Nash Family and McGraw Family. He was a lifelong resident and farmer, and was living in the house he was born in. He was a member of Napthali Lodge, F&AM; former member of Reserve Lodge F&AM of Sharpsville. He was a former member of Mt. Lebanon Friends Church. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #685 of Chrysler.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven "Steve" K. and Tammy McGraw, Sharpsville; daughter, Janet K. Percival, Sharpsville; nine grandchildren, Wes, Joe, Alicia, Allison, Nick, Shad, Justin, Kristin, Adam; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Robert McGraw.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Leatherman-Morris-Boyer Funeral Home, 314 N. Main St., Tipton. The Rev. Mark Spaulding will officiate. Burial will be in Sharpsville cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lester Bean
Lester L. Bean, 67, 6351 W. 90 S., Kokomo, died at 4:07 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Saint Joseph Hospital & Health Center. Born May 6, 1932, in LaFollette, Tenn., he was the son of Walter and Bertha (Ellison) Bean. On Jan. 19, 1957, he married
Doris J. (Brown) Bean, who survives.
He was a farmer all his life. He attended Ervin Township and New London Schools. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Cuneo Press as a pressman/journeyman, for 29 3/4 years. He was employed for four years at Cabot, and retired after 14 years from the Howard County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Chapel Hill Christian Church, and a member of the United Steel Workers of America Local #302. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper.
Surviving are his wife, Doris; mother, Bertha Bean, Kokomo; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sheila and Bruce Babcock, Renita Bean, Kokomo; three grandchildren, Joel, Micah, and Christian Babcock; six brothers and four sisters-in-law, Bill and Betty Bean, Kokomo; Robert Bean, Texas; Gene and Ethel Bean, Russiaville; Conrad Bean, Garnie and Janelle Bean, Arkansas; Dannie and Marie Bean, Alburn, Ill; and several foster grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Bean.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville. Rev. Steve Allen and LuAnn Hendershot will officiate. Entombment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens with military rites performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lester Bean Memorial Fund (a hunting and fishing program for children.)

Edward Franklin Hunt, 65, 520 E. Gerhart St., died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at his residence.

WINNONA LAKE -- Pastor Robert S. Williams, 92, formerly of Peru, died at 8:24 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Grace Village Health Care.

Charles McLearran
ATLANTA -- Charles McLearran, 65, 655 S. Indiana St., died at 10:47 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at Tipton County Memorial Hospital.

Pat Williams
SANTEE, S.C. -- Pat Evelyn Williams, 71, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at the South Carolina Cancer of Richland Memorial Hospital. Born in Canton, Ohio, she was the daughter of Ernest and Evelyn Marie Goebeler Powell. She was the widow of Royal Wayne Williams.
She graduated from Kokomo High School and attended Indiana University. She taught classes at Brunswick Community College in Supply, N.C., and also at EWHA Woman’s University in Seoul, Korea. She earned a real-estate brokers license, was a volunteer at Orangeburg Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, S.C. She remained active with several activities, including gardening, painting, quilting, golfing at the Santee Cooper Country Club. She also enjoyed swimming and canasta.
She traveled extensively, listing residence in Kokomo, Westchester County, N.Y., Westport, Conn., Lansing, Mich., Holden Beach, N.C., Nairobi, Kenya, Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and Seoul, Korea.
Surviving are four daughters, Jerri Williams, Columbia, S.C., Carolyn Seeling, Audubon, Pa., Marilyn Forrey, Concord, N.C., Mavis Nolting, Carrboro, N.C.; a brother, Ernest Powell, Illinois; a sister, Catherine (Peggy) Heuer; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Saturday at Eutawville Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Eutawville, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eutawville Episcopal Church of the Epiphany Building Fund or to the Pat Williams Nursing Scholarship Fund, administered by First National Bank, P.O. Box 147, Santee, S.C. 29142. Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
Edward Hunt
Edward Franklin Hunt, 65, 520 E. Gerhart St., died at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at his home. Born Oct. 2, 1934, in Kokomo, he was the son of Perry Francis and Virginia (Dewitt) Hunt. He was raised by his stepfather, Robert Haworth.
He graduated from Northwestern High School. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He retired from Continental Steel after 30 years of service and also worked at the Markland Mall. He enjoyed model trains and NASCAR racing.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Lana Hunt and Tim Hunt, Kokomo; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Joel Williford, Kokomo; a sister, Bonnie Rizzo, Centerville, Ohio; a stepsister, Gloria Johnson, Kokomo; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandchild and his stepfather.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road. The Rev. Harold Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Garden cemetery, with military rites by the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1152. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
