Wilda Boyden

Wilda Berniece Boyden, 96, resident of Windsor Estates for the past seven years, died at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Howard Community Hospital. Born Dec. 18, 1902, in Center, she was the daughter of William S. and Eva Syvilla (Hoffman) Fisher.

She was retired from the Star Glove Co., and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and had been an active member of the Senior Citizens of Howard Co.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and three sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fenn & Shirley Mortuary, Colonial Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road. The Rev. Verl Winslow will officiate. Burial will follow in Albright cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Methodist Church, 1701 S. Locke, Kokomo, IN 46902.

Charles Fox

WALTON -- Charles W. Fox, 70, died at 4:06 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center, Indianapolis. Born May 26, 1929, in Anderson, he was the son of Nelson and Eliza Hendren Fox. On April 8, 1952, in Marion, he married Nina M. Hunt, who survives.

He retired from Sears after 15 years as a service technician. He also served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring May 31, 1971. He attended the Olive Branch Church of God, Akron. He is a member of the Walton American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Nina; daughter and son-in-law, Shomay and Joe Sarver, Peru; Kim Fox, at home; Robert Fox, West Virginia; four brothers, Michael Fox, Yuma, Ariz.; Richard Fox, Granger; Paul Fox, Butlerville; John Fox, Texas; four grandchildren, Cathy and Cyndi Fox; Jade and Brook Sarver; one great-grandchild, Zane Rector.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the West Hesperia cemetery, Hesperia, Mich. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Murray Funeral Home, Walton. Memorial contributions can be made to the Special Olympics in his memory.

Rowena Albright

INDIANAPOLIS -- Rowena E. Albright, 81, formerly of Kokomo, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at Methodist Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Ellers Mortuary.

Eula Lightfoot

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Eula B. Lightfoot, 92, 1930 Cleveland St., a former Kokomo resident, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born Feb. 25, 1907, she was the daughter of John Irvin and Cora Dell (Dicken) White. On Nov. 26, 1933, in Marion, Ind., she married Waldo E. Lightfoot, who preceded her in death.

She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Ball State University. She was an elementary school teacher in Marion and Kokomo schools, retiring in 1973. In Kokomo, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Tri Kappa. She was a founding member of the Thursday Study Club, and was most active in local and state activities of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, serving as the Indiana state president in 1973-1974.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dewain and Patricia Lightfoot, Eau Claire; two grandsons, Nik Lightfoot and Tony Lightfoot and his wife, Jennifer; one great-grandson, Kyle Lightfoot; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Lewis and Homer White.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Fenn & Shirley Mortuary, Colonial Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo. Burial will follow in Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the mortuary.

Miles Miller

Miles Keith Miller, 66, 5305 Arrowhead Blvd., died at 10:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct., 16, 1999, at his residence. Born June 24, 1933, in Jasonville, he was the son of Marshall Ray and Dorothy Miller. On Jan. 17, 1953, in Indianapolis, he married Alice (Morgan) Miller, who survives.

He retired in June, 1998, after 26 years of service at Delphi Delco, where he worked as a model maker. He loved bowling, fishing, and get togethers with his family. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Darrell and Lucinda Miller; Douglas and Tracy Miller; Dwayne and Peggy Miller; Dean Miller; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Deborah Kenworthy; Donnella and Arvie Graves; Dorothy and Roy Dubay; 15 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; brother, Clifford Miller, Indianapolis; two sisters, Rita Hart, Michigan; June Thayer, Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, and three sisters.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. The Rev. Rick Horner will officiate. Burial will be in Albright cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Richard Mitchell

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Richard E. Mitchell, 77, 5904 Mount Eagle Drive, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, in Alexandria Hospital. Born June 17, 1922, in Tipton, he was the son of Thomas H. and Martha (Sowers) Mitchell. On May 30, 1943, in Hopewell Church, Tipton County, he married Martha J. (Pat) Patterson, who survives.

He graduated from Tipton High School in 1940 and from Purdue University in 1944 as a chemical engineer. He worked for Shell Oil Company from 1944 until April of 1965, then moved to Tipton County in April, 1965, from Palos Verdes, Calif. He served in World War II as a tech sergeant in the U.S. Army, in Petroleum Engineers. He was a member of Kemp United Methodist Church. He lived on a farm on Division Road until September 1996, moving to Alexandria, Va. He was the Tipton County engineer and land surveyor for about one year. He was in private land surveying and engineering until 1984.

Surviving are his wife of Alexandria; daughter, Beth Britt, Alexandria. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Mitchell, in 1973.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Leatherman-Morris-Boyer Funeral Home, 314 N. Main St. Tipton, Ind. The Rev. John Hogsett will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Tipton. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m., today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer or Heart Funds.

Billie Willis

PERU -- Billie R. Willis, 49, R.R. 2, died at 8:24 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at his residence. Born Jan. 27, 1950, in Peru, he was the son of Coin and Leona (Hudson) Willis, who are both deceased. On Sept. 3, 1988, he married Debbie Brewer, who survives.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam Conflict. He was employed at Daimler-Chrysler Corporation, Kokomo.

Surviving are his wife; two brothers, Dwight Lipscomb, Hessel, Mich.; Jerry Willis, Warsaw, Ind.; two sisters, Gloria Cain, Peru; Angel Gamble, Jacksonville, Fla.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St. Pastor Bob Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery. A military committal service will be conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Julia Shelly

Julia M. Shelly, 70, 1707 Oakhill Road, died at 12:53 Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at Howard Community Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Ellers Mortuary, Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St.

Ethel Rusk

Ethel M. Rusk, 81, Manorcare Health Services, died at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at the facility.

Arrangements are pending at Fenn & Shirley Mortuary, Colonial Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road.

Della Johnson Derry

ELWOOD -- Della M. Johnson Derry, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Hospital.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Copher & Fesler Funeral Home, 415 S. Anderson St. The Rev. Roger Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in Park View cemetery, Alexandria, Ind. Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Madison County or the American Cancer Society.

Georgia Cooley

Georgia Pauline Cooley, 64, 702 N. Union St., died at 11:39 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Howard Community Hospital. Born April 4, 1935, in Lee County, Va., she was the daughter of Cora Hazel (Adams) and Garland E. Kerns.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed helping people.

Surviving are her mother, Cora Hazel Hogan, Kokomo; five daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Larry Hullett, Indianapolis, Kathy and Charles Duncan, Bowling Green, Ky., Darlene and Jim Jackson, Hazel and James Titus, Patricia and Larry Hunter, all of Kokomo; son, Billy Joe Wade, Indianapolis; five sisters, Priscilla Faye Hodges, Hardinsburg, Ky., Sherry Collins, Sneadville, Ky., Rita Kay Fields, Dorothy Lee Kerns, Etta Gay Morgan, all of Kokomo; 24 grandchildren, Jerry, Terry, Cindy, Larry II, Mike, James, Wanda, Teresa, Frank, Danny, Joe, David, Jimmy, Carolyn, Kathy, Patricia, Jamey, Autumn, Christy, Deanna, Christopher, Tommy Joe, Aaron, Ashley; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and step father.

Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary, Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St. Sister Nettie Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Point cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Gloria Cain

PERU -- Gloria D. Cain, 61, 701 E. Main St., died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Millers Merry Manor.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St. Pastor Bob Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery. Friends may call from noon Thursday untill time of the service.

Charles Mullett

PERU -- Charles W. Mullett, 77, 1016 W. 6th St., died at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Dukes Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St. Pastor Ron Shaner will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery. Friends may call from Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
