Betty Lawson
Betty June Lawson, 54, 1004 North Korby, Kokomo, died at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at her residence.

Jack Clarkson
Jack Clarkson, 81, 135 E. 450 North, Kokomo, died at 6:04 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Howard Community Hospital. Born May 24, 1918, he was the son of Thomas F. and Roxie (Martin) Clarkson. On Dec. 10, 1937, he married
Leota P. (Merrell), who survives.
He retired from Kokomo YMCA as building superintendent. He previously worked as a journeyman stone mason. He had also worked as chief of maintenance for Maconaquah School Corp. for several years. He was a member of Bunker Hill Masonic Lodge No. 683 where he served as Worshipful Master for three years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Fort Wayne. He was a member of Ibn Saud Grotto, where he served as Monarch for a year. He received a associate degree from Ivy Tech State College in heating and air conditioning. He was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. He was in civilian conservation corps in his youth.
Surviving are his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Deenie Clarkson, Kokomo; three daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Edwards, Peru, Brenda Rice, Denver; Jill and Jerry Blanton, Mesquite, Nev.; 15 grandchildren, Thomas, Denise and Dennis Leffler, Krystal Schafer, Cindy Lewis, Jack, Rebecca, Nancy, Fred Rice, James and Jason Holmes, Jennifer DiCamillo, Jacquelyn Hammrich, Jill Russell, Debra Newlin; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ada Eades, East Otis, Mass, Betty and Lewis Cameron, Logansport, Joy Williams, Kempton. He was preceded in death by a half brother and half sister.
Services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ellers Mortuary, Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St. The Rev. Mark Malin will officiate. Masonic Services will follow. Private interment will be at a later date. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Shriners Burn Institute, or Enchanted Lantern Grottos of North America.

TIPTON -- Flossie M. Lange, 83, 300 Fairgrounds Road, died at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Millers Merry Manor.

Helen Mildred (Van Briggle) Haulk
VENICE, Fla. -- Helen Mildred (Van Briggle) Haulk, 74, 1300 N. River Road, Site 83 W. Venice, Fla., formerly of Russiaville, died 4:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Venice Hospital, Venice, Fla. She was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Tipton County, the daughter of Walter and Dorothy (Jarrett) Van Briggle. She was the wife of Sheldon K. "Bud" Haulk, who survives. They were married
July 27, 1979, in Russiaville.
She was a homemaker and was involved in the he Elks Club and Eagles Lodge. She formerly lived in Anderson, Elwood and Russiaville. She liked golfing, bowling and playing cards.
Also surviving are one son, Ralph Gordon, Anderson, ; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Harvey Mandon, Hernando, Fla., Gail and John Wade, Anderson, and Becky and Kenny Sallee, Elwood; six stepsons, Jeff Haulk, Kentucky, Joe Haulk, John Haulk, both of Indiana, Mark Haulk, Florida, and David Haulk and Jim Haulk, both of Elwood; three stepdaughters, Margaret Haulk, Kentucky, Angie Haulk, Elwood, Mary Haulk, Indiana; two sisters, Iona Vawter, Russiaville; Frances Fisher, Bringhurst; two sisters-in-law, Eloise Van Briggle, Scircleville; Phylis Van Briggle, Indianapolis; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Hurschel Van Briggle, Tipton; Larry and Margaret Van Briggle, Mabank, Texas; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, six brothers and four sisters.
Services are 7 p.m. Thursday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville. Ted Orem will officiate. There will be no calling. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America-Indiana Chapter.

Ancil ‘Slim’ Rhodes
Ancil "Slim" Rhodes, 73, 1800 N. Wabash Ave., died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at his home. Born Aug. 17, 1926, in Grubbs, Ark., he was the son of Jessie J. and Dora (Boohair) Rhodes. On March 24, 1972, he married
Dorothy (Walker), who survives.
He was a retired construction worker for Laborer International Union of North America Local 274. He was a member of Gethsemane Tabernacle of Jesus Christ Church.
Surviving are his wife; four sons and two daughters-in-law, James Rhodes, Michigan, Kenny Rhodes and Danny and Dawn Rhodes, Illinois; Ancil E. and Debbie Rhodes, Florida; three daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce Wagner, Florida, Louise Richey, Michigan, Margaret and Dennis Lee, Michigan; three stepsons and their wives, James R. and Jamie Stover, Russiaville, Jeff and Kathy Stover, Greentown, Danny Lee, Kokomo; sister and brother-in-law, Lilly and Bob Pressey, West Middleton; stepdaughter, Janice Lee, Kokomo; two brothers-in-law and wives, James and Cheryl Walker, Michigan, Danny and Karen Walker, Kokomo; three sisters-in-law and spouse, Pat Brewer and Wanda Pearson, Kokomo, Wilma and Ed Lawman, Kokomo; 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren. He was proceded in death by a brother, sister, and two grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. The Rev. Joe Bulger and the Rev. Barry Bulger will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

MARION -- Kathleen M. Achor, 84, 4727 S. Colonial Oaks Drive, died at 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Colonial Oak Health Care Center.

Rosemary Waters
INDIANAPOLIS -- Rosemary Waters, 69, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Community Hospital East.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Philip Neri, 550 W. Rural Street. Prayers will be 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Washington Park West.

Annis Barker
Annis L. Barker, 88, Swayzee, died 7:13 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at his residence. She was born Jan. 30, 1911, in Howard County, the daughter of Frank and Lucy (Tyler) Wyrick. She was the wife of Don R. Barker, who preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1981. They were married
March 31, 1934.
She was a homemaker and a member of Greentown Wesleyan Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and taught Young Missionary Workers Band. She was past president of the Ladies Missionary Society.
Surviving are five daughters and four spouses, Barbara and Don Echelbarger, Greentown, Donna Jean and Mason Landis, Marion, Sharon Kaufman, Kokomo, Betty and Jerry Leavell, Rochester, Zana and Terry Hall, Princeton, W.Va.; special friend and caregiver, Rosemary Phillips, who lived with her; stepsister, Rosemary Osborn, Kokomo; nine grandchildren and seven spouses, Allen and Juanita Echelbarger; Dan and Kathy Echelbarger; Jay and Debbie Echelbarger; Julie and Lee Mason; Brent and Tammy Evans; Michelle Leavell, Parry and Tina Leavell, Jared and Angie Hall and Derek Hall; seven great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren. Six brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.
Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Greentown Wesleyan Church. Pastor Harold Bardsley will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hasler-Pickett Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, and one hour prior to services at the church. Pompey ‘Pete’ Crawford
Pompey R. "Pete" Crawford, 57, 2305 Randolph, Grissom Air Reserve Base, died 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, in Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru.
He was born March 2, 1942, in Grand Junction, Tenn., the son of Dorothy and Johnny O’Bannon. He was the husband of Janet R. Crawford, who survives. They were married
Dec. 4, 1995.
He retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1992. He attended Somerville High School in Somerville, Tenn. He was a member of the F.O.P., American Legion Post 177, I.S.R.P.A. Security and was a gun collector.
Surviving are his mother, Dorothy O’Bannon; three sons, Robert McKinney, Memphis, Tenn., Jason Bryant and Matt Roberts, both of Kokomo; one daughter, Sabrina Crawford, Kokomo; a sister, Dixie O’Bannon, Kokomo; and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were three brothers.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Pastor Jim Thomas and the Rev. Robert Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ellers. Bluitt & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
