JUDY M. KENDALL

EDWARDSBURG -- Judy M. Kendall, 58, of 113 VanBuren St., Battle Creek, and formerly of Edwardsburg, died at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 2, 2003), at Borgess Medical Center after having a stroke.
She was born Oct. 12, 1945, in Anderson to Theodore McKinley and Estella Belle (Parks) Kendall.
She is survived by two sons, Kirk (Robin) Kendall of Edwardsburg and Allan Kendall of Battle Creek; five grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Ethel Mae) Kendall of Middletown; and two sisters, Mrs. David (Marcia) Metcalf of Edwardsburg and Mrs. Keith (Mary Helen) Elsworth of Fairmont.
Friends may call an hour before the 1 p.m. Saturday service at Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home. Cremation will follow with burial in Adamsville cemetery.
Mrs. Kendall worked as a nurse's aide for a hospital and as an admittance clerk.
Memorials may be given to the family.
LOUISE BRYANT
Oct. 30, 1934-Nov. 29, 2003
ELKHART -- Louise Bryant, 69, of 330 W. Jefferson, died at 3:51 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 29, 2003) at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born Oct. 30, 1934, in Nixon, Tenn., to Lee and Myrtle (Tacker) Cook.
Survivors include two sons, George E. (Dianne) Bryant of Nashville and Curt D. Bryant of Elkhart; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Daniel (Alma Jean) Welch of Savannah, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
The memorial service was Tuesday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. William Hemmig of St. Paul's United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation will take place at Elkhart Cremation Services.
Mrs. Bryant was retired from the RV industry, where she had worked as a seamstress.
She was a member of the Women of the Elks. She enjoyed playing bingo.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
ERNEST W. HEYSE SR.
May 9, 1921-Dec. 1, 2003
SOUTH BEND -- Ernest W. Heyse Sr., 82, of Greenview Avenue, died at 6:34 p.m. Monday (Dec. 1, 2003) at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born May 9, 1921, to George and Martha (Kraft) Heyse, now both deceased. He married
Geraldine Thompson on Aug. 30, 1946, in South Bend.
She survives with a daughter, Diana Barton of Elkhart; a son, Ernie Heyse Jr. of South Bend; three grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Tompos of Bettendorf, Iowa; and three brothers, Edwin and Eugene Heyse, both of South Bend, and George Heyse Jr. of Mishawaka.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Funeral Home on Mayflower Road, where a rosary service will be at 7 p.m. The 10 a.m. Saturday service will be at Our Lady of Hungary Church, and burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
Mr. Heyse, a World War II veteran, retired as a lathe operator. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 9820.
J. CLAIR KAUFFMAN
GOSHEN -- J. Clair Kauffman, 88, of 1305 West Ave., died at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 2, 2003) at AmeriCare Living Center.

CHRISTOPHER L. WOOD
Dec. 1, 1982-Nov. 29, 2003
HAVELOCK, N.C. -- Christopher Lee Wood, 20, of 4 Jones St. and formerly of Syracuse, died Saturday (Nov. 29, 2003) in Lakeview, Ohio, after an automobile accident.
He was born Dec. 1, 1982, in Ocala, Fla., to Gregory and Janice (Hoover) Wood. He married
Sally Chandler on May 23, 2003.
She survives, along with his mother of Syracuse; his father of LaGrange; a brother, Jurney (Kelly) Wood of Leesburg; a grandmother, Sue Baker of Syracuse; a half sister, Eden Wood of California; and two half brothers, Joshua and Matthew Wood, both of California.
He was preceded in death by two grandfathers and a grandmother.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel in Syracuse, where the service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Mr. Wood moved to North Carolina from Syracuse on Sept. 1, 2003. He worked in construction.
Memorials may be given to American Red Cross.
JUNE D. WILLARD
June 9, 1929-Dec. 1, 2003
SUN CITY, Ariz. -- June D. Willard, 74, formerly of Elkhart, died Monday (Dec. 1, 2003) in Peoria, Ariz.
She was born June 9, 1929, in South Bend to James R. and Iolene Ray Rasmussen.
She married
Robert Willard, who survives, along with a son, Jack D. of Peoria; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and a half-sister, Sharon Brown of Indiana.

BETTY J. OWENS
April 10, 1938-Dec. 1, 2003
ELKHART -- Betty J. Owens, 65, of 2730 S. 10th St., died at 7:59 a.m. Monday (Dec. 1, 2003) at Elkhart General Hospital after an illness.
She was born April 10, 1938, in Elkhart to Carl V. and Lena L. (Waggoner) Hall, now both deceased. She married
Tolby "Joe" Owens, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1981.
Mrs. Owens is survived by two cousins, Carol Bryan and Richard (Margo) Barfell; an aunt, Ruth Pipher; and two nephews, David and Steve Turner, all of Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Turner.
There will be no visitation before the 10 a.m. Friday graveside service at Prairie Street cemetery, officiated by Richard Barfell.
Westbrook-Metz & Clouse Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Owens retired in 1989 from Chemcraft after 10 years because of a disability. She enjoyed playing bingo and was a member of the church.
Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.

ELKHART -- Mary K. Burns, 77, of 1403 Baldwin St., died at 11:30 p.m. Monday (Dec. 1, 2003) at Elkhart General Hospital.

HOWARD E. JAMES
Sept. 26, 1935-Nov. 30, 2003
ELKHART -- Howard E. "Red" James, 68, of 1203 Princeton St., died at 7:01 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Kalamazoo to Howard E. and Adeline (Goins) James, now both deceased. He married
Veretta Whitener in 1958, and she preceded him in death. He married
Janet Bowen in 1989.
She survives along with six daughters, Carolyn Sutton, Brandy Bowen and Angel Bowen, all of Elkhart, Leslie Ann Whitener of Pasadena, Calif., Angelic Whitener of South Bend and Amanda James of Middlebury; two sons, Samuel D. Whitener and Chance James, both of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite James.
Friends may call an hour before the 1 p.m. Thursday service at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Leonard Cook. Burial will be in Frame cemetery.
Mr. James retired from Bontrager Pools, where he worked as a mason.
Harry Turley
Harry Dale Turley, 71, 2530 N. Webster St., died at 2:12 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Saint Joseph Hospital & Health Center. He was born on July 28, 1926 in Kokomo, the son of Harry B. and Alta Mae (Shepherd) Turley. On Dec. 5, 1981 he married
Barbara J. Amos Hulet; she survives.
Turley was self employed in the home improvement and construction business, and was working as a certified A.A. Counselor in Marion at the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Good Sam's Camping Club, Chapter 43 and the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Campaign, Presidential Unit Citation, American Area Campaign, Philippine Liberation, World War II Victory and China Service Commendations and medals. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force receiving the National Defense Service Medal.
Also surviving are two sons, Harry D. Turley Jr., Indianapolis, and Mark Turley, Darlington; four daughters, Tonya Cantrell, Kokomo, Darla Goger, Yolanda Smith, and Kimberly Eisenhower, all of Indianapolis; three stepsons, Tim Hulet and Bill Hulet, both of Kokomo, and Jimmy Mote, Minneapolis, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Faith Cook, Kokomo, and Polly Hinton, Danville; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters, Patricia Elliott, Kokomo, and Janet Cook, Walton; 10 nephews, five nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson, a brother and two sisters.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fenn & Shirley Mortuary, Colonial Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road. The Rev. Patrick Bousum will officiate. Burial will be in Galveston cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post 1152. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Elizabeth 'Betty' Weaver
ROCHESTER, Ind. -- Elizabeth J. "Betty" Weaver, 63, 2327 Westside Drive, Rochester, formerly of Omaha, Neb., died at 12:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend. She was born Nov. 15, 1934 in Chicago, Ill. to Patrick and Georgia Blood Donaghey. On July 30, 1955 in Lake Station she married
Robert W. Weaver; he survives.
Weaver was a homemaker and was a secretary for the Fulton County Highway Department for seven years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rochester.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Brad Good, Rochester; five sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Ashley Weaver, and Dan and Judy Weaver, all of Kokomo, Mike and Barb Weaver, and Tom and Julie Weaver, all of Noblesville, and John and Amy Weaver, Menomonee Falls, Wis.; 13 grandchildren, Corey, Casey, Maggie and Elizabeth "Libby" Good and Ryan, Justin, Brandon, Autumn, Allison, Aaron, Austin, Ben and Kelly Weaver; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Pat and Lou Roberts, Goodlettsville, Tenn., JoAnn and Jack Bannister, Winfield, Ill., and Mary Donaghey, Cappell, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Michelle Donaghey, Bremen; and her mother-in-law, Mary C. Weaver, Rochester.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rochester. The Rev. John Zahn will officiate. Burial will be in Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Albert 'Jim' Armstrong
Albert A. "Jim" Armstrong, 71, 5968 S. Road 1100 East, Walton, died at 9:55 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Dukes Continuing Care. He was born March 11, 1926 in Cass County to Chester and Ethel (Coblentz) Armstrong. He married
Phyllis "Joan" Reyburn June 28, 1947; she survives.
Armstrong worked at Grissom AFB for 11 years. He retired from Delco Electronics after 26 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of Onward Christian Church.
Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Margaret Armstrong, Galveston; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Gary Cleaver, Delphi; two sisters, Alma East, Lafayette, and Wilda Johnson, Kokomo; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Allen Funeral Home, 115 S. Elm St., Bunker Hill. The Rev. Larry Brandon will officiate. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Rachel E. Schenck, 93, 215 W. Elm St., Flora, died at 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at her residence.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bringhurst United Methodist Church. The Rev. Larry DeVos will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor cemetery, Fayette. Juanita Ruth Bertram
Juanita Ruth (Brewster) Bertram, 77, 2700 N. Washington St., died 9:27 p.m. Friday, June 30, 1999, at Saint Joseph Hospital & Health Center. She was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Glenmary, Tenn., the daughter of Jesse Washington and Happy Ellen (Crisp) Brewster. On Jan. 1, 1940, in Albany, Ky., she married
Othnel Spencer Bertram Sr., who preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1964.
She attended Sunbright High School in Sunbright, Tenn. She was employed by the China Clipper Restaurant, Star Glove Company, both of Kokomo and retired in 1994 from MagneTech Manufacturers of Kokomo. She attended Faith United Methodist Church.
Surviving are six children and their spouses, Janette Ruth and Bing Joe Leger, Kokomo, Othnel Spencer "Spence" and Linda Bertram Jr., Wyoming, Mich., Charlotte Aileen Bertram Watterson, Madison; Bettie Elaine and Robert Lee Towe, Fairview, Tenn., Joyce Ann Bertram, Kokomo, and David Allen Bertram, Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Allen Leger, Christopher Noel Bertram, Sarah Josephine Bertram, Earl Spencer Watterson, Jack Andrew Watterson, Elaine Renee Gilbert, Cheri Ellen Straughan, Garry Mitchko Amos; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Wayne Brewster, Irving, Texas, and Jesse and Geraldine Brewster Jr., Kokomo; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Vida Wilson, Llano, Texas, Violet and David Preston, Nina Myers, Daisy and Bill Hunter, all of Brewstertown, Tenn., and Jessica Barnett, Lake City, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Mary Ellen Bertram; and two brothers.
Services will be 8 p.m. Monday at Fenn & Shirley Mortuary, Colonial Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with the Rev. Evan Strong officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until services Monday at the mortuary. In Sunbright services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Schubert Funeral Home on Main Street. Calling is from 9 a.m. until services Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Laurel Dale cemetery, Rugby, Tenn. Willadene Foust
WALTON, Ind. - Willadene K. Foust, 81, Walton, died 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born July 21, 1918, in Cass County to Harmon and Inez Kunkle Wilson. She was the wife of Earl Foust, who preceded her in death in 1959. They were married
Feb. 26, 1939, in Peru.
She worked for First National Bank, Kokomo, for 38 years in the accounting department and continued to work until her death. She was a 1961 graduate of Indiana Business School, Kokomo. She also was a member of Kokomo Church of Christ.
Surviving are a two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Daniel McNeill, Atlanta, Ga., and Nancy and Marvin Alsum, Orlando, Fla.; a brother and his wife, Corwin and Betty Wilson, Onward; and two grandchildren, Kevin B. McNeill and Kelli A. McNeill, both of Atlanta.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Murray Funeral Home, Galveston Chapel. Minister Gary Carpenter will officiate. Burial will be in Onward cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel.
