DANIEL R. MILLER

GOSHEN — Daniel R. Miller, 92, of 1225 Greencroft Drive, died at 8:52 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) at Greencroft Nursing Center.
He was born in LaGrange County on Feb. 29, 1908, to Harry D. and Katie P. (Miller) Miller and married
Alice Schrock in Fort Wayne on Jan. 23, 1937. She died Sept. 26, 1992.
Mr. Miller is survived by a brother, LeRoy (Vivian) Miller of Middlebury, two nieces and one nephew. A sister, Nellie Ebersole; and one brother, Rollin J. Miller, are deceased.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Miller - Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury, where the service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Pamela Kling with First United Methodist Church of Goshen will officiate and burial will be at Forest Grove cemetery, Middlebury.
Mr. Miller moved to Goshen from Middlebury in 1950. He was a mint farmer with his father - in - law, Christ Schrock, on S.R. 4 for many years and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
J. TROY SCHROCK
Dec. 30, 1910 - Jan. 30, 2001
PRESTON, Minn. — J. Troy Schrock, 90, of Preston, died Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester after suffering a stroke.
Friends may call today a half hour before the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Root River Church of the Brethren in Preston. The Rev. Francis Townsend is officiating and burial will follow at Prairie Queen cemetery.
Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schrock was born in Shipshewana on Dec. 30, 1910, the son of J. Harvey and Edith (Gephart) Schrock, and graduated in 1928 as valedictorian from Middlebury High School and in 1933 cum laude from Manchester College. On Sept. 5, 1937, he married
Opal Broadwater in Fillmore County, Minn.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Joel F. (Joan) of Geneva, Ill.; three daughters, Janeen A. Sarlin of New York City, Mrs. Jim (Judith) Aufenthie of Rochester and Mrs. Jack (Joanita) Brantl of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; five great - grandchildren; two sisters, Rachel Weybright and Mabel Raber; and a brother, Titus Schrock.
One grandson, three brothers and six sisters are deceased.
Mr. Schrock and his wife lived on a farm near Middlebury until 1944, when they moved to Bristol Township in Minnesota. They remained there until August 2000 when they moved to Preston.
He was a member of the Preston Lion's Club, Farm Bureau, Mr. and Mrs. Garden Club and the Church of the Brethren.
Memorials may be given to Heifer Project International in Little Rock, Ark., or a charity of choice.
OPAL M. REPROGLE
Dec. 18, 1913 - Jan. 31, 2001
MILFORD — Opal M. Reprogle, 87, of Lakeland Loving Care Center, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) at Goshen General Hospital.
Mrs. Reprogle, the daughter of Franklin and Arrie (Wareham) Smith, was born Dec. 18, 1913, in Bremen and graduated from Bremen High School.
She married
Harold D. "Fustie" Reprogle on Jan. 22, 2931, and he died April 6, 1974. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Harris of Nappanee and Mrs. Phil (Rita) Charters of Milford; eight grandchildren; and 17 great - grandchildren. Two daughters, Gay Reprogle and Rose Marie Newhard, are deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Thompson - Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee Chapel, where the private family service will follow. The Rev. Norman Reimer with Nappanee Missionary Church will officiate and burial will be at Bremen cemetery.
Mrs. Reprogle, a lifetime area resident, was a member of the Nappanee Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.
Memorials may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County or the Alzheimer's Association.
JENNIE S. KAUFFMAN
June 26, 1915 - Jan. 31, 2001
NAPPANEE — Jennie S. Kauffman, 85, of Nappanee, died at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) at Goshen General Hospital.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Thompson - Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. The service, officiated by the Rev. Larry Smith and the Rev. Ross Cook, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Nappanee United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Union Center cemetery.
She was born on June 26, 1915, in Perryton, Texas, to Jacob and Hannah (Shirk) Sweigart, and married
Floyd Kauffman in Elkhart on Oct. 6, 1935. He died Oct. 6, 1996.
Surviving are one son, Dennis of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Judith Robinson of Nappanee; eight grandchildren; 15 great - grandchildren; four sisters, Laura Thompson of Elkhart, Minnie Pippenger of Goshen, Esther Fenno of Albuquerque, N.M., and Margaret Baker of California; and a brother, Lee Sweigart of Florida.
Mrs. Kauffman lived most of her life in Nappanee. She was a retired nurse and a member of Nappanee United Methodist Church.
ANNA E. NAFZIGER
March 16, 1900 - Feb. 1, 2001
GOSHEN — Anna E. Nafziger, 100, of 211 Carter Road, died at 3:53 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 1, 2001) at the home of her daughter, Anna R. Good, in Goshen.
She was born March 16, 1900, in Hopedale, Ill., the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Wittrig) Litwiller, and married
John M. Nafziger on Dec. 27, 1922. He died in 1942.
After the death of her husband, Mrs. Nafziger went back to school and graduated in 1951 from Goshen College and in 1957 with a master's degree from Northwestern University. She taught elementary school in Illinois and Goshen Community Schools.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary K. Nafziger and Mrs. Maynard (Anna R.) Good, both of Goshen; two sons, J. Marvin (Edith) of Goshen and Myrl A. (Twila) of Wadsworth, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 37 great - grandchildren. One grandchild, one great - grandchild, two sisters and six brothers are deceased.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Yoder - Culp Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at College Mennonite Church with the Rev. Firman Gingerich and the Rev. Klaudia Smucker officiating.
The family will also receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Hopedale Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at Hopedale Mennonite cemetery.
Mrs. Nafziger was a member of College Mennonite Church and the Elkhart County Retired Teacher's Association.
Memorials may be given to Elkhart Community Hospice Inc. or Mennonite Board of Missions.
JACK L. SHAFFER
March 6, 1936 - Jan. 31, 2001
ELKHART — Jack Lee Shaffer, 64, of 1017 Bradford Court, died in his home at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001).
On March 6, 1936, he was born in Elkhart to Peter and Chleo (Harter) Shaffer. He married
Pamela J. Shanholt on Aug. 13, 1971, in Elkhart.
Mr. Shaffer is survived by his wife; a stepson, Darren (Patricia) Shanholt of Elkhart; one grandchild; three great - grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Nelson (June) Mahaffa of Elkhart; and one brother, Robert of Elkhart. A brother, Cleo William Shaffer, is deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Mark Mikel will officiate and burial will be at Olive cemetery.
Mr. Shaffer formerly worked at Elkhart Rubber Co. and Pulp Products and retired in 1999 from Elkhart Foam Products. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Memorials may be given to the family.

ELKHART — Charlotte L. Raatz, 95, of 55838 River Shore Estates, died at 12:20 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 1, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital.

MARGARET E. MERCER
March 22, 1914 - Jan. 29, 2001
ELKHART — Friends of Margaret E. Mercer may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home. The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Kurtz officiating. Burial will be at Rice cemetery.
Mrs. Mercer, 86, of 310 Hiawatha Drive, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born on March 22, 1914, in Mifflin, Pa., to Thaddeus J. and Abbie E. (Carvell) Walters and married
Hiram W. Mercer in Roseland on Dec. 31, 1936. He died on Nov. 2, 1980.
She is survived by two sons, Karl K. (Barbara) of Monroe, Mich., and Greg L. (Marty) of Elkhart; five grandchildren; two great - grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Art (Jean) Dempster of Elkhart; and one brother, Roger (Bev) Walters of Elkhart. Four sisters, Dorothy L. Trippel, Janice Swihart, Bernice Cain and Donna Hatfield; and four brothers, Lloyd, Marlon, Robert and Chester, are deceased.
Mrs. Mercer worked as a sales consultant at Barry's Jewelers and Images Jewelers before her retirement in 1986. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army or Faith United Methodist Church.
MARIAN V. ROBERTS
July 5, 1913 - Jan. 30, 2001
MISHAWAKA — Marian V. Roberts, 87, of Mishawaka, died at 10:28 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in South Bend.
Mrs. Roberts was born in Edwardsburg on July 5, 1913, the daughter of Howard and Nellie (Smith) Dawson, and lived in Mishawaka for at least 70 years.
She married
Glenn J. Selner in Mishawaka on Feb. 7, 1931, and he died on Dec. 26, 1970. She then married
Woodrow L. Roberts on July 17, 1971, and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Connie) Riddle of Mishawaka and Sherry A. McClurken of Osceola; a son, Dennis (Sandee) Selner of Cordova, Tenn.; three stepdaughters, Lucille Stickel of Elkhart, Ruby Vincent of Texas and Mrs. Ed (Margie) Peterson of Schoolcraft, Mich.; a stepson, Glenn A. Selner of Florida; five grandchildren; seven great - grandchildren; 21 stepgrandchildren and several stepgreat - and stepgreat - great - grandchildren.
Four sisters, Laura Worrell, Carrie Gran, Donnabelle Dawson and Frances Mamak; and a stepson, Harold R. Selner, are deceased.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bubb Funeral Chapel North. The Rev. Sheldon Grame will conduct the service at 10 a.m. Friday at East United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
Mrs. Roberts was a seamstress and worked for many years at Ball Band, Kinder's and H.D. Lee's. She was a member of East United Methodist Church and the Homemakers Class and enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and traveling.
Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association or American Heart Association.
LORNA M. WALDO
May 12, 1930 - Jan. 31, 2001
NAPLES, Fla. — Lorna Mae Waldo, 70, of 181 Wilson Blvd. N., formerly of Cassopolis, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) at Naples Community Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Waldo, the daughter of Herbert R. and Leila G. (Taylor) Cabana, was born in Granger on May 12, 1930. She married
Richard R. Waldo in Cassopolis on Oct. 29, 1950, and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Vickie L.) Richardson of Naples and Mrs. Kerry Joe (Cathy J.) Darrigan of Decatur, Mich.; one granddaughter; and two sisters, Doris Rieck of Mishawaka and Edith Tyler of Niles, Mich. A sister, Phyllis Cabana; and two brothers, Leland and Herbert Cabana Jr., are deceased.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Connelly Funeral Home in Cassopolis, where the service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Dr. Claudette Haney with Cassopolis United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Sumnerville.
Mrs. Waldo retired as a sales clerk at Hayden Hardware in Cassopolis and moved to Florida 12 years ago. She was a member of Cassopolis United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Women's Bowling Association and American Association of Retired Persons.
Memorials may be given to American Legion Post 206, VFW Post 10704, both in Cassopolis, American Lung Association or American Heart Association.
CATHERINE E. RUNKLE
Nov. 22, 1917 - Jan. 31, 2001
GRANGER — Catherine E. Runkle, 83, of C.R. 2, formerly of Elkhart, died at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 31, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital.
Friends may call one hour before the service at 11 a.m. Friday at Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka. The Rev. Bob Renner with Granger Missionary Church will officiate and burial will be at Rice cemetery, Elkhart.
Mrs. Runkle was born in Elkhart on Nov. 22, 1917, the daughter of James and Wilma (Teall) O'Conner.
She married
John Strickland on March 3, 1942, and he died November 1965. She then married
Leroy Runkle in Elkhart on Jan. 2, 1970, and he died on Jan. 23, 1985.
She is survived by a son, John (Leona) Strickland of Granger; three grandchildren; three great - grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Drudge and Sharon Miner, both of Elkhart. A son, Keith Strickland; one great - granddaughter; a sister, Marjorie Mann; and a brother, Thomas O'Conner, are deceased.
Mrs. Runkle retired as a supervisor in 1979 after 30 years with Miles Inc.
