STEPHEN E. KRAZIT
Nov. 24, 1919 - Feb. 2, 2001
ELKHART — Friends of Stephen Ernest Krazit may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home & Crematory, with a wake service at 3:30 p.m. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with a half - hour of visitation before at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. The Rev. William Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
Mr. Krazit, 81, of 1422 Magnolia Ave., died at 7:55 p.m. Friday (Feb. 2, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born on Nov. 24, 1919, in Pinconning, Mich., to Frank and Anges (Fister) Krazit. He married
Bernice E. Davy on Oct. 12, 1946, in Elkhart.
His wife survives with three sons, Steve (Celia) Krazit of Irving, Texas, Larry (Kathy) Krazit of Goshen and Doug (Rhonda) Krazit of Elkhart; three daughters, Pam Smith of Osceola, Mrs. Jerry (Fran) Heeter of Elkhart and Mary Krazit of Grapevine, Texas; nine grandchildren; two great - grandchildren; two brothers, John (Marie) Krazit of Forked River, N.J., and Bennie (Louise) Krazit of Orlando, Fla.; and three sisters, Katherine Tubbs of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Ed (Betty) Harvey of Seminole, Fla., and Julia Gallo of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
Three brothers, Frank, Herman and Carl; and three sisters, Ann Bradley, Agnes Harrison and Marian Hunter, are deceased.
Mr. Krazit retired from Car Parts Inc. in Elkhart where he was the store manager, and also worked at Super Car Wash. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling and had been active with the Osolo Little League as an umpire and coach.
Memorials may be given to the church.
E. VERA EVERSON
Nov. 19, 1918 - Feb. 5, 2001
GOSHEN — E. Vera Everson, 82, of 413 Broadmore Estates, formerly of Devils Lake, N.D., died at 4:30 a.m. Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) in her home.
She was born in Tappen, N.D., on Nov. 19, 1918, the daughter of Christian and Elizabeth (Kopp) Niess, and married
Howard K. Everson on Jan. 22, 1938, in Devils Lake. He died on May 19, 1998.
Mrs. Everson is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Don (Sharon A.) Stoeser of Goshen; two granddaughters, Mrs. Frank (Stephanie A.) Johnson and Mrs. Thomas (Suzette A.) Jaskolka, both of Elkhart; and three great - grandchildren. Eleven brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will be at a later date in North Dakota, where burial will be at Devils Lake cemetery.
Mrs. Everson, a homemaker, was a member of the Michiana Knitters Club, St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake and the church ladies' auxiliary. She moved to Goshen in 1998.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.
STEVEN D. PALMER
GOSHEN — Steven David Palmer, 42, of North Main Street, died Friday (Feb. 2, 2001) in his home.
Arrangements are pending at Hartman Funeral Home .
WAYNE R. ROWE
June 20, 1932 - Jan. 27, 2001
CROMWELL — Wayne R. Rowe, 68, of Cromwell, died at 12:40 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 27, 2001) in his home following a one - year battle with cancer.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be at a later date at Oak Park cemetery in Ligonier. Ulrey - Renner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rowe was born on June 20, 1932, in Elkhart to Marion R. and Sylvia (Eller) Rowe. On Jan. 1, 1983, he married
Sandra M. Hayden in Elkhart, and they moved to the Syracuse area in 1989.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert of Marion and Larry of Orland, Calif.; four stepchildren; three grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Harold (Virginia) Glassburn of Middlebury, Mrs. Dale (Phyllis) Tharp of Bristol, Mrs. Ralph (Delores) Thorpe and Mrs. Jim (Regenia) Shank, both of Elkhart; and four brothers, Bob Bryan of Elkhart, Clifford Rowe of Syracuse, Delbert Rowe of New Port Richey, Fla., and Jack Rowe of Chesterfield.
Mr. Rowe worked as a conductor for 26 years at Conrail and retired in 1994. He was a member of Faith Assembly Church in Warsaw.
Memorials may be given to any local hospice program.
HARLEY A. BONTRAGER
May 9, 1915 - Feb. 5, 2001
LAGRANGE — Harley A. Bontrager, 85, of 1915 S. 300 W., died in his home at 10:10 a.m. Monday (Feb. 5, 2001).
Friends will be received after 4 p.m. today and all day Wednesday at his residence, where the funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Bishop Sam J.R. Miller and the Rev. Alvin T. Yoder will officiate and burial will be at Miller cemetery.
Frurip - May Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bontrager was born in LaGrange on May 9, 1915, the son of Abraham and Susie (Christner) Bontrager, and lived his whole life in LaGrange County. He married
Mary D. Miller on Feb. 16, 1939, and she died on Aug. 23, 1992.
He is survived by a brother, Abraham of Shipshewana; and one stepbrother, Levi M. Yoder of Topeka. A brother, Amos; four stepbrothers, Leo, Dan, John and Neal Yoder; one sister, Amelia Miller; and two stepsisters, Edna Schlabach and Sue Miller, are deceased.
Mr. Bontrager was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
PHYLLIS J. WHISLER
Aug. 26, 1929 - Feb. 1, 2001
SEBRING, Fla. — Phyllis Jean Whisler, 71, of 239 Cottonwood Drive, formerly of Elkhart, died Thursday (Feb. 1, 2001) at a nursing facility in Sebring.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. A memorial service will be held in Elkhart this spring and announced at a later date. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. International Cremation Society in Cape Coral was in charge of cremation arrangements.
Mrs. Whisler was born in Elkhart on Aug. 26, 1929, the daughter of Chester and Muzette Ort, and married
Leon Whisler in Elkhart on April 16, 1949.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Tim of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Jeffery of Elkhart and Thomas of Carmel, Ind.; a daughter, Lori Hochschild of Northbrook, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Gorten of Charlevoix, Mich.
Mrs. Whisler formerly co - owned L.E. Meat Co. in Elkhart, where she also worked as the secretary, and moved to Florida in 1998. She was a member of the Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary and Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of First United Methodist Church of Elkhart.
WILLIAM H. ECKERT
Jan. 10, 1927 - Feb. 2, 2001
BRISTOL — William H. Eckert, 74, of 301 S. Division St., died in his home at 3:24 p.m. Friday (Feb. 2, 2001) from injuries he suffered in a house fire.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Eckert was born in Quincy, Mich., on Jan. 10, 1927, the son of Floyd and Grace (Blyly) Eckert, and married
Maudetta Breden in Elkhart on Dec. 6, 1947. She died in August 2000.
He is survived by two sons, David H. (Robyn) of White Pigeon and William E. of Elkhart; one daughter, Kay Lewis of Howenwald, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and eight great - grandchildren. Two sisters, Alice Smith and Betty Townsend, and three grandchildren are deceased.
Mr. Eckert served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked until 1999 as a maintenance engineer at Pinnacle Building Systems. He was a member of Middlebury American Legion and the Bristol Homecoming committee.
Memorials may be given to Alcoholics Anonymous.
BILLIE M. MANLEY
Aug. 31, 1921 - Feb. 3, 2001
LADY LAKE, Fla. — Billie M. Manley, 79, of 1205 Flores Ave., formerly of Elkhart, died at 4:20 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001) at Leesburg, Fla., Regional Medical Center.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home & Crematory, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Oscar H. Sheets will officiate and burial will follow at Rice cemetery.
A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Manley was born on Aug. 31, 1921, in Chicago to Ernest M. and Dollie Marie (Patterson) Manley. He married
Helen E. Mularz on Sept. 10, 1944, in Newark, N.J., and she died on June 26, 1984. He then married
Mary Louise (Cherry) Holdeman on Nov. 23, 1985, in Elkhart, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wendell (Patricia) Singrey of Ocee, Fla., and Mrs. Michael (Alice) Celie of Edwardsburg; four grandchildren; six great - grandchildren; one stepson, Stephen M. Holdeman of Buchanan, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Steve (Leigh Ann) Thorson of Elkhart; three step grandchildren; one step great - grandson; and two sisters, Mrs. Jack (Betty) Edson of Elkhart and Mrs. Robert (Doris) Smith of Yucca Valley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one grandson.
Mr. Manley was a retired electronics repairman. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Kane Masonic Lodge 183 F&AM and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. He moved from Elkhart to Florida in 1985.
Memorials may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County or to any local hospice.
JACK E. DELLER
June 23, 1946 - Feb. 4, 2001
CONSTANTINE — Jack E. Deller, 54, of Diane Drive, died Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001) at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo following a brief illness.
Mr. Deller, the son of Russell "Jack" and Mae (Letts) Deller, was born in Coldwater on June 23, 1946, graduated in 1964 from Angola High School and in 1968 from Albion College with a bachelor's degree in business, math and economics. He later received a master's degree in education from Western Michigan University.
He taught in Wolf Lake, Ind., and served as a principal in Athens Public Schools before coming to Constantine in 1973, where he served as a principal in the middle and high school as well as the athletic director.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Mrs. Brett (Laura) Strick of Jenison, Mich., and Sarah Deller of Holland; two sons, Brian (Mary Anne) and Matthew, both of Kalamazoo; and one grandson.
His sister, Sandra Sellers, is deceased.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. The funeral service will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Constantine High School gymnasium with the Rev. Derl Keefer, Three Rivers Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery in Empire, Mich.
Mr. Deller was a member of St. Joseph County Principals Association, St. Joe Valley Athletic League and the Constantine Rotary Club. He attended Trinity Missionary Church and enjoyed traveling and vacationing with his family.
Memorials may be given to the Jack Deller Scholarship Fund or Rose Arbor Hospice.
J. RYAN BRIM
Oct. 22, 1978 - Feb. 4, 2001
ELKHART — Jonathan Ryan Brim, 22, of Kenyon Avenue, died in his home on Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001).
He was born in Mishawaka on Oct. 22, 1978, the son of John W. and Rebecca A. (Fowler) Brim, and married
Candy Klingerman in Elkhart on June 26, 1998.
Mr. Brim is survived by his wife; his parents, of Elkhart; two sisters, Crystal and Laura, both of Elkhart; and grandparents, Walter and Patricia Brim of South Bend and Dorothy Fowler of Mishawaka.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Bill Huffer at Harvest Fellowship Church of the Nazarene in Mishawaka at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will follow at Southlawn cemetery in South Bend.
Mr. Brim worked for two years as an electrician at Fall Creek Housing in Elkhart.
Memorials may be given to Harvest Fellowship Church of the Nazarene superstars program.
HELEN M. KAISER
Sept. 28, 1912 - Feb. 5, 2001
SHIPSHEWANA — Helen M. Kaiser, 88, of 11400 W. 820 N., died at 2:40 a.m. Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at Vencor Hospital after an extended illness.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, with a Scripture service at 8 p.m. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface cemetery in Lafayette, with Sister Maxine McGee of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating.
Mrs. Kaiser was born on Sept. 28, 1912, in Medaryville and married
Joseph Wade, who is deceased. She later married
Darl B. Kaiser in 1967 in South Bend, and he survives.
She is also survived by a son, Tom Wade of Lafayette; one grandson; three great - grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. A sister and one brother are deceased.
Mrs. Kaiser, a homemaker, lived in the Elkhart and Shipshewana areas for 34 years, coming from Lafayette. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Pigeon and the White Pigeon Meal Site, was active with her husband at the Constantine American Legion and enjoyed playing cards and making crafts.
