LUCILLE K. OWENS
May 14, 1908 - June 17, 2000
INDIANAPOLIS — Lucille K. Owens, 92, of 1144 N. Malvina Ave., formerly of Elkhart, died at 6 p.m. Saturday (June 17, 2000) at Rosewalk Village.
Mrs. Owens, the daughter of Henry and Cora E. (Payne) Kime, was born May 14, 1908, in Elkhart, and married
Carl G. Owens on March 12, 1927. He died March 20, 1981.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ogal (Doreen) Klosterman and Shirley A. Larsh, both of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; 12 great - grandchildren; seven great - great - grandchildren; and one sister, Verniel Kemnitz. An infant son is deceased.
Friends may call one hour before the funeral service at noon Wednesday at Westbrook - Metz & Clouse Funeral Home in Elkhart. The Rev. Michael Smith of Fountain Town Christian Church will officiate, followed by burial at Prairie Street cemetery, Elkhart.
Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and a member of Bell Chapel Church of God.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
JO ANN ALEXANDER
Feb. 5, 1959 - June 17, 2000
ELKHART — Jo Ann (Ford) Alexander, 41, of East Simonton Street, died at 7:52 p.m. Saturday (June 17, 2000) at Elkhart General Hospital after a brief illness.
Ms. Alexander was born in Montgomery, Ala., on Feb. 5, 1959, to Minnie Ford and Joe Williams and came to Elkhart from Chicago in 1985.
She is survived by two daughters, Charkeia and Rhonda Carroll, both of Elkhart; her mother, Minnie Brown, and father, both of Montgomery; and a sister, Nadine Tyson of Montgomery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Community Missionary Baptist Church in Elkhart. A graveside service will be held Saturday at Eastwood cemetery in Montgomery. Alford’s Mortuary in South Bend is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Alexander was employed at Patrick Industries.
GARY L. HORTON

ELKHART — Gary L. Horton and his wife, Tuyet Horton, both 48, of Cobus Drive North, died Wednesday (June 14, 2000) near Bolzano, Italy, from injuries they suffered in a motorcycle accident.
The Hortons owned - and - operated Suzuki Sportcycle on Cassopolis Street. They were in Europe for a motorcycle tour and presentation by the Ducati Corp. at the time of their death.
Mr. Horton was born on Nov. 17, 1951, in South Bend to Max N. and Lorraine H. (Pinkowski) Horton and graduated in 1970 from LaSalle High School.
Mrs. Horton was born in Tam Hiep, Vietnam, on Oct. 10, 1951.
Gary and his wife, Tuyet Thi Brown, were married
in 1985 and are survived by his parents, of Avon Park, Fla.; his sister, Mrs. John (Kathleen M.) Hawblitzel of Alma, Ark.; his brother, Max L. (Sandra) of South Bend; her daughter, Marie (Brown) Taylor of Marietta, Ga., her one granddaughter; and several of her family members in Vietnam.
Mr. Horton was a well - known professional dirt track and road - course racer and past national champion in the American Motorcycle Association. He was a member of the AMA and Vintage Dirt Trackers.
Mrs. Horton came to the United States in the late 1960s and worked at Vincent Bach.
Friends may call two hours before the 6 p.m. Friday service at Welsheimer Funeral Home North in South Bend. Cremation will follow with burial at Southlawn cemetery in South Bend.
ELI A. MILLER
Dec. 23, 1908 - June 19, 2000
MILLERSBURG — Eli A. Miller, 91, of 67099 C.R. 43, died at 11:35 a.m. Monday (June 19, 2000) at Goshen General Hospital, where he had been a patient for two days.
He was born to Amos J. and Barbara (Bontrager) Miller on Dec. 23, 1908, in Reno County, Kan., and married
Ida E. Miller in Sumner County, Kan., on Dec. 22, 1931. They came to the Millersburg area in 1936 and she died July 28, 1994.
Mr. Miller is survived by two daughters, Mary Troyer of Middlebury and Mrs. Jonathon (Mabel) Stoltzfus of Morgantown, Pa.; two sons, Maynard (Carol) of Goshen and Mervin (Lola) of LaGrange; six grandchildren; and 27 great - grandchildren. One great - granddaughter and three sisters, Mary Miller, Fannie Nisley - Byler and Susie Yoder, are deceased.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at South Haven Amish Mennonite Church in Millersburg, where the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. Bishop Ervin Hostetler and Bishop Elmer Miller will officiate and burial will follow at Hawpatch cemetery in Topeka.
Miller Funeral Home in Middlebury is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Miller, an ordained minister since March 1949, was a retired farmer and carpenter and a member of South Haven A.M. Church.
HOWARD L. HAYDEN
April 27, 1911 - June 18, 2000
CASSOPOLIS — Friends of Howard L. Hayden may visit with the family for a half - hour before the 4 p.m. Saturday graveside service at Prospect Hill cemetery. The Rev. Donald R. Ferris of Cassopolis United Methodist Church will officiate.
Connelly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hayden, 89, of 22033 Forest Hall Drive, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday (June 18, 2000) in his home after an extended illness.
He was born in Cassopolis on April 27, 1911, the son of Joseph and Lydia (Jones) Hayden, and lived here his entire life.
On April 8, 1950, he married
Agnes J. Timmons in Cassopolis and she died June 12, 1996. He is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Hayden graduated from Albion College in 1933 and owned W.B. Hayden and Sons, a hardware store in Cassopolis since 1885, until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Cassopolis United Methodist Church and the Diamond Lake Yacht Club.
Memorials may be given to the church, Cass County Hospice or Cass County Council on Aging.
MABEL E. BLOOMSTRAND
Jan. 7, 1905 - June 19, 2000
ELKHART — Mabel E. Bloomstrand, 95, of 1001 W. Hively Ave., formerly of Oak Park, Ill., died at 6:40 a.m. Monday (June 19, 2000) at Rosewood Terrace.
On Jan. 7, 1905, she was born in Chicago to August and Alma (Larson) Bloomstrand. She is survived by a brother - in - law, George Haas of Elkhart.
Four sisters, Elva Haas, Gertrude Hillis, Ruth Ek and Gladys Yowel; and one brother, Albert Bloomstrand, are deceased.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Miss Bloomstrand was a self - emplyed bookkeeper and accountant in Oak Park and Chicago and an honorary member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
BEVERLY A. WALKER
June 22, 1938 - June 19, 2000
ELKHART — Beverly A. Walker, 61, of 57819 Quebec St., died at 7:05 a.m. Monday (June 19, 2000) at Hospice House of St. Joseph County in South Bend.
The daughter of Ernest F. and Lois J. (Christner) Struble, she was born in Elkhart County on June 22, 1938, and is survived by one daughter, Sherri Smith of West Point, Ind.; a son, Jeffrey of Lafayette; four grandchildren; one great - grandchild; her mother, Lois Kauffman of Bristol; and a sister, Sandy Struble of Elkhart.
One brother, Wayne Struble, is deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Richard Dunn will officiate and burial will be at Prairie Street cemetery.
Mrs. Walker worked at Harold Ziegler Ford (formerly Pete Fall Ford) for the past 32 years as a credit manager.
Memorials may be given to Hospice House of St. Joseph County.
JOHN W. LOOMIS
Sept. 14, 1917 - June 17, 2000
ELKHART — John W. Loomis, 82, of 3612 Beechwood Court, died at 2:55 p.m. Saturday (June 17, 2000) in his home.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of cremation arrangements.
Mr. Loomis was born in Gilmanton, Wis., on Sept. 14, 1917, the son of Arthur and Ella (Dewitt) Loomis, and married
Gertrude L. Cain in 1951. She died Feb. 15, 1998, in Lake Placid, Fla.
He is survived by a son, John A. of Elkhart; a stepson, Charles K. Henderson of Lakeland, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Phyllis G. Henderson of Battle Creek, Mich.; four grandchildren; and two sisters in Wisconsin.
Mr. Loomis served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Midwest Operating Engineers Local 150, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of the union, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Moose Lodge 599.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
HERBERT A. TEN HAVE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Herbert A. Ten Have, 86, of Grand Rapids, died on Saturday (June 17, 2000) in Grand Rapids.
He was born in Grand Rapids on Sept. 26, 1913, the son of John and Anna Ten Have, and is survived by his wife of 21 years, Elizabeth; two sons, Steven (Margaret) Ten Have of Elkhart and Craig (Debby) Peterson of Eagle County; a daughter, Janet Koons of El Cajon, Calif.; six grandchildren; and five great - grandchildren. His first wife, Bernice Ten Have, is deceased.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. (Michigan time) today at Reyers North Valley Chapel. The funeral service will be officiated by the Rev. Susan York at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Pilgrim Home cemetery in Holland, Mich.
Mr. Ten Have worked as a furniture designer at Baker Furniture Co. for more than 50 years and was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church the Golden K. Kiwanis Club and Furniture Designers Association.
Memorials may be given to the church.
JAMES F. SEWARD
BRISTOL — James F. Seward, 84, of 57692 C.R. 19, died at 1 p.m. Monday (June 19, 2000) at Elkhart General Hospital.
Arrangements are pending at Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home.
CLARENCE E. COPELAND SR.
March 5, 1937 - Feb. 5, 2001
ELKHART — The service for Clarence "Popcorn" E. Copeland Sr. will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Coleman - Powell Funeral Home in Gary. Cremation will follow. The funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday at the Powell - Coleman Funeral Home, 1901 Washington St, Gary.
Mr. Copeland, 63, of 1536 S. Main St., formerly of Gary, was found dead at a home at 1544 S. Main St. on Monday (Feb. 5, 2001).
He was born March 5, 1937, to Beulah Towner in Memphis, Tenn. He is survived by two sons, Clarence Jr. of Elkhart and Jerome of Minneapolis; five daughters, Samantha, Beverly, Hortense and Sandra, all of Gary, and Pam Copeland of Minneapolis; and several grandchildren. His longtime companion and the mother of his children, Paula Few Copeland, died in 1982.
Mr. Copeland came to Elkhart nearly 10 years ago and worked at the Faith Mission and Sorg Jewelers.
