FRANCIS J. PORTER
Aug. 31, 1915 - May 13, 2000
OSCEOLA Francis J. Porter, 84, of Price Street, died at 8:05 p.m. Saturday (May 13, 2000) at Countryside Place Nursing Home in Mishawaka.
Mr. Porter was born Aug. 31, 1915, in Chillicothe County, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph M. and Myrtle (Cutright) Porter, and lived in Osceola since 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On March 4, 1943, he married
Doris Houghton in South Bend and she died Dec. 16, 1983. He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ratliff of Burbank, Calif.; two sons, Donald F. of South Bend and Joseph G.; five grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie M. Maloney of Xenia, Ohio.
Friends may call two hours before the 1 p.m. Thursday service at Palmer Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Porter retired after many years with Uniroyal Corp. in Mishawaka.
Memorials may be given to any charity.
RONALD D. ANDERSON
Dec. 28, 1938 - May 14, 2000
ELKHART Ronald Dean Anderson, 61, of 9 Portsmouth Drive, died at 5:54 p.m. Sunday (May 14, 2000) at Elkhart General Hospital.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Phil Stump will officiate and burial will be at Rice cemetery.
Mr. Anderson, the son of Charles F. and Imogene L. (Klingler) Anderson, was born Dec. 28, 1938, in Elkhart and graduated in 1957 from Elkhart High School.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Patrick (Catherine) Lynch of Indianapolis; two sons, Jeffery D. and Brian C., both of New Brunswick, N.J.; five grandsons; and two sisters, Barbara Anderson and Mrs. Fred (Carol J.) Saal, both of Elkhart.
Mr. Anderson was part - owner of the family business, General Crane Service, and later worked for U.S. Brass for 15 years. He was most recently employed as a driver for Elixir Industries.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a member of Kane Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend and Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
DONNEY W. JONES
Dec. 29, 1948 - May 14, 2000
ELKHART Donney W. Jones, 51, of 28912 Lark St., died at 4:43 p.m. Sunday (May 14, 2000) at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born in Newellton, La., on Dec. 29, 1948, the son of Herbert C. and Annie (Reese) Jones, and is survived by two sisters, Bobbie Hall and Betty Roland, both of Elkhart; and three brothers, Herbert C. Jr., William C. and Louis Ray, all of Elkhart. A sister, Eleanor M. Pahl, is deceased.
Mr. Jones worked for Dependable Mobile Home Service Co. as a repairman.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home, where the service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Paul Brenneman will officiate and burial will be at Rice cemetery.
CECIL H. CLINE
April 4, 1903 - June 7, 2000
GOSHEN Cecil H. Cline, 97, of 1325 Greencroft Drive, formerly of Berkey Avenue, died at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday (June 7, 2000) at Greencroft Terraces Healthcare after suffering a stroke.
On April 4, 1903, he was born in Prowers, Colo., to Luther and Amanda (Brubaker) Cline, then married
Mildred Stayer in Ontario, Calif., on Sept. 24, 1928. She died Nov. 16, 1984.
Mr. Cline is survived by three sons, Luther E. of Elkins, Ark., Arnold W. of Sun City, Ariz., and Gerald D. of Dunlap; eight grandchildren; 10 great - grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Powers of Calamase, Calif.
Two grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Foster and Bessie Sligar; and three brothers, Paul, Floyd and Keith, are deceased.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Rieth - Rohrer - Ehret Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. David Stump of Southwest Bible Church will officiate and burial will be at Violett cemetery.
Mr. Cline grew up on a farm in southeastern Colorado and moved to California in 1920. He was ordained as a pastor in 1933 and served Cornerstone Church in Glendora, Calif., for 17 years. He moved to Goshen in 1956 and pastored to Inbody Church and Southwest Bible Church for a total of 30 years.
Memorials may be given to Southwest Bible Church.
FRANCIS R. LAYSON
April 30, 1926 - June 8, 2000
LAGRANGE Francis R. Layson, 74, of 1075 S. 495 E., died in his home at 4 a.m. Thursday (June 8, 2000).
Mr. Layson, the son of Roy and Azalia (Meek) Layson, was born April 30, 1926, in Fayette County, Ind., and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On June 2, 1946, he married
Myra E. Sauls in St. Augustine, Fla., and she survives with one daughter, Mrs. Ahmet (Sandra) Mecuk of Fort Wayne; a son, Jeffrey R. of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; one great - grandchild; and a brother, Malcolm of Waukegan, Ill.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Frurip - May Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Flynn will officiate the 10 a.m. Tuesday funeral service at Mount Zion Lutheran Church. A military graveside service will follow at Greenwood cemetery.
Mr. Layson worked at NABISCO in Fort Wayne from 1951 to 1986 and moved to LaGrange in 1975. He was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 215 and enjoyed fishing.
Memorials may be given to the church or Parkview Home Health & Hospice.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. Mabel I. Burgess, 89, of 3187 Newbury St., formerly of Elkhart, died at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday (June 8, 2000) at St. Joseph Hospital.

WALTER J. STUTSMAN

EDWARDSBURG Friends of Walter J. Stutsman may call one hour before the 2 p.m. (Michigan time) service today at Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Reese of Hope United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be at Adamsville cemetery.
Mr. Stutsman, 96, of 24406 May St., died in his home at 7:17 a.m. Wednesday (June 7, 2000) after an illness.
On Nov. 12, 1903, he was born in Elkhart to Ceylon A. and Lucy B. (Rowe) Stutsman, married
Helen Sheetz on Aug. 29, 1942, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. They moved to Edwardsburg in 1954.
Mr. Stutsman is survived by his wife; a son, Dan A. of Edwardsburg; one grandson, Michael of Edwardsburg; and two great - grandchildren.
A granddaughter, Michelle A. Stutsman; and two brothers, Sam and Ford, are deceased.
Mr. Stutsman, a retired farmer, formerly worked for Cleveland & Sons Grain Elevator in Edwardsburg.
Memorials may be given to the Edwardsburg Ambulance Service or Edwardsburg Fire Department.
DIXIE L. KRAUS

MISHAWAKA Dixie L. Kraus, 64, of 8 N. First St., died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday (June 8, 2000) in her home.
She was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Cassopolis, the daughter of Alfred and Virginia (Bender) Higley, and is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Ledesma of Elkhart and Cheryl Vankirk of Lake City, Ark.; and one granddaughter.
Friends may call one hour before the 5 p.m. Saturday memorial service at Bubb Funeral Chapel North. The Rev. Ervin Mize will officiate.
Mrs. Kraus was a homemaker and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 Auxiliary.

ETNA GREEN Kristyn Elizabeth Kaufman, infant daughter of Glen and Eunice (Beiler) Kaufman, 8895 W. 700 N., was stillborn at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday (June 7, 2000) at Goshen General Hospital.
Kristyn is survived by her parents; grandparents, Vernon and Liz Beiler of Paradise, Pa., and Enos and Martha Kaufman of Etna Green; great - grandparents, Aaron and Naomi Beiler of Kinzers, Pa., and Levi Fisher of Gap, Pa.; and a great - great - grandfather, Christian Beiler of Ronks, Pa.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Amish Mennonite Church cemetery with the Rev. Loren Graber officiating. Thompson - Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home in Nappanee is in charge of arrangements.
AMMON C. YODER
May 22, 1920 - June 8, 2000
GOSHEN Ammon C. Yoder, 80, of 13944 C.R. 34, died at 4:50 a.m. Thursday (June 8, 2000) at Goshen General Hospital, where he had been a patient since Monday.
The son of Chris and Katie (Troyer) Yoder, he was born May 22, 1920, in Amboy, Ind., and married
Barbara Hochstetler in Morocco on Oct. 15, 1942. They came to Goshen 50 years ago.
Mr. Yoder is survived by his wife; five daughters, Elizabeth A. Stauffer of Sterling, Ill., Mrs. Harvey (Katie) Schlabach and Mrs. Edward (Amanda S.) Schwartz, both of Burr Oak, Mich., Mrs. Orla (Lydia M.) Eash of Shipshewana and Mrs. Marvin (Mary) Borkholder of Colon, Mich.; two sons, Bill R. (Gladys) of Shipshewana and Richard L. (Mary) of Goshen; 36 grandchildren; 31 great - grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Eli (Esther) Anderson of Homersville, Ohio; and three brothers, Sam and Henry, both of Baltic, Ohio, and William of Homersville.
A sister, Lydia; and two brothers, Calvin and Andy, are deceased.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today and all day Saturday at the family home. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the home of John Yoder, 13838 C.R. 34, with Bishop Paul Hochstetler, Bishop Menno Yoder and the Rev. John Yoder officiating. Burial will be at Thomas cemetery.
Yoder - Culp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Yoder retired in 1983 after 31 years at Starcraft Marine in Topeka and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
EDITH M. YODER
Nov. 22, 1907 - June 17, 2000
ELKHART Edith M. Yoder, 92, of 2601 Oakland Ave., died at 7:09 p.m. Saturday (June 17, 2000) at Elkhart General Hospital.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rieth - Rohrer - Ehret Funeral Home in Goshen, where the service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Dale Stoll of Tri - Lakes Chapel in Bristol will officiate and burial will be at Union Center cemetery, Nappanee.
Miss Yoder was born on Nov. 22, 1907, in Harrison Township, the daughter of Menno and Orpha (Leatherman) Yoder, and is survived by one brother, C. Max Yoder of Elkhart, and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Dale, Ralph and Donald, are deceased.
Miss Yoder served as a missionary in Detroit, San Francisco and Pennsylvania and was a member of Tri - Lakes Chapel. She was a former member of Union Grove Brethren in Christ Church.
Memorials may be given to Tri - Lakes Chapel.
STEPHEN P. HOFFMAN
Nov. 11, 1946 - June 18, 2000
NEW PARIS Stephen P. Hoffman, 53, of 72735 C.R. 23, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday (June 18, 2000) in the emergency room at Goshen General Hospital.
Mr. Hoffman, born in Goshen on Nov. 11, 1946, was the son of Charles and Fanna (Korenstra) Hoffman. He married
Nancy Cripe on March 18, 1967, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Michelle of New Paris; a son, Shawn of New Paris; two grandchildren; and a brother, Richard of Thomasville, Ga. One brother, Thomas, is deceased.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rieth - Rohrer - Ehret Funeral Home in Goshen. There will be no public funeral service. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Maple Grove cemetery with the Rev. John Randolph of Peoples bible Church in Benton officiating.
Mr. Hoffman graduated in 1965 from New Paris High School and served in the U.S. Navy until 1970. He was a self - employed truck driver and owned and operated his own trucking business.
