DONALD L. YODER
Sept. 17, 1914 - Nov. 2, 1999
CLARKSVILLE – Donald L. Yoder, 85, of 2200 Greentree N., formerly of Goshen and Winter Haven, Fla., died at 7:29 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 2, 1999) at Clark Hospital in Jeffersonville after suffering from a stroke.
Mr. Yoder, the son of LeRoy and Mabel (Spry) Yoder, was born on Sept. 17, 1914, in Goshen, and graduated in 1932 from Goshen High School and in 1937 from Indiana University, where he lettered in football and basketball. He received a master’s degree in 1948 from IU.
He married Madeline L. Workinger in 1937, and she survives with a son, James of Noblesville; two daughters, Mrs. David (Patricia) Falk of Ontario, Canada, and Mrs. Robert (Susan) McClew of Hanover; 11 grandchildren; 14 great - grandchildren; and one sister, Marie E. Yoder of Goshen. A brother, Dan, and one granddaughter are deceased.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Yoder - Culp Funeral Home in Goshen, where the service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Charlie Winkelman of First Presbyterian Church of Goshen will officiate and burial will be at Violett cemetery, Goshen.
Mr. Yoder was a teacher at Goshen High School from 1942 to 1968, where he coached football and started the golf team. He and his wife owned Yoder’s Budget Shop in Goshen for 30 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and deacon, the “I” Man Association, Sphinx Club, Sigma Nu fraternity and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and a charter member and past president of Maplecrest Country Club.
In 1998, he was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame.
Memorials may be given to the American Stroke Foundation.

ROSE A. AUST
May 18, 1917 - Nov. 3, 1999
ELKHART – Rose A. Aust, 82, of 24515 C.R. 20, died at 9:36 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 3, 1999) at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born on May 18, 1917, the daughter of Nathan and Lucy (Steury) Schrock, and married George M. Aust on March 3, 1939. He died Dec. 15, 1995.
Mrs. Aust is survived by two sisters, Ruth Sleppy of Goshen and Lorene Borneman of Mishawaka. Two brothers and four sisters are deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Yoder - Culp Funeral Home, where the service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ken Livengood of Bonneyville Mennonite Church in Bristol will officiate and burial will be at Violett cemetery.
Mrs. Aust, a lifetime area resident, was a homemaker and a member of Bonneyville Mennonite Church.
Memorials may be given to the church.

ANGEL M. DILLON
Nov. 1, 1999 - Nov. 1, 1999
ELKHART – Angel Marrie Dillon, infant daughter of James J. Dillon and Lillie M. Bonner, of Lane Avenue, was stillborn at 9:30 a.m. Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) at Elkhart General Hospital.
Angel is survived by her parents; two sisters, Jamie L. and Faith A. Dillon, and a brother, James J. Dillon II, all at home; maternal grandparents, Russel Bonner and Sharon Edwards, both of Goshen; and paternal grandmother, Phyllis Brehm of South Bend.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home in Osceola, followed by the graveside service at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The Rev. Don Francis will officiate.

JEFFREY G. SCHWAB
July 7, 1957 - Nov. 2, 1999
ELKHART – Jeffrey G. Schwab, 42, of C.R. 4 West, died at 6:59 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 2, 1999) at Elkhart General Hospital.
Mr. Schwab was born on July 7, 1957, in Elkhart, the son of William and Patricia (Wedle) Schwab. He is survived by his parents, of Elkhart; two brothers, Michael (Patricia) of Elkhart and Timothy of North Carolina; and one sister, Mrs. Stan (Lee Ann) Hoover of Elkhart.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour before the service, which will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. His brother - in - law, the Rev. Stan Hoover, will officiate and burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Schwab, a carpenter, worked for Sun - Lite Inc. in Elkhart.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

EDWARD L. KILE
HOUSTON, Texas – Edward L. Kile, 66, of 9251 Burdine St., died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 3, 1999) at Valley View Healthcare Center of Elkhart.
Arrangements are pending at Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart.

HOWARD E. RUSH
ELKHART – Howard E. Rush, 88, of 22876 C.R. 10, former owner of Wilt’s, died in his home at 8 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 3, 1999).
Arrangements are pending at Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home.

RALPH R. DUKES
ELKHART – Ralph R. Dukes, 78, of 231 Meisner Ave., died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 2, 1999) at the home of his son in Naples, Fla.
Arrangements are pending at Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home.

HERBERT W. LeCOUNT
Dec. 15, 1908 - Nov. 2, 1999
LIGONIER – Herbert William LeCount, 90, of 407 Lincolnway W., died at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 2, 1999) at Goshen General Hospital after an extended illness.
Born in Cromwell on Dec. 15, 1908, Mr. LeCount joined the U.S. Navy in 1925 and served on the USS Mississippi, USS Wyoming and USS Saratoga as a fireman first class.
After an honorable discharge, he went to work for the Studebaker Corp. in South Bend and Calbeck’s Hardware in Ligonier. He also had worked at Ligonier High School, Essex Wire Co. and Starcraft Inc.
Mr. LeCount was a member of American Legion Post 243 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. David (Nancy) Ethridge of Decatur, Miss., Katherine Wagner of Mishawaka and Mrs. Pete (Pattie) Green of Cromwell; two sons, Larry of Ligonier and Rick of Goshen; 10 grandchildren; eight great - grandchildren; two brothers, Ray and Jack, both of Ligonier; and four sisters, Louella Jones of Naples, Fla., Ethel Lehman and Mrs. Frank (Martha) Sprague, both of Ligonier, and Mary Bach of Syracuse.
Three brothers, Maurice, Robert and Junt, and one sister, Elsie Griffith, are deceased.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Orr Funeral Home in Ligonier, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. John Randolph officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Oak Park cemetery.

LILLIAN A. TARNOWIESKI
Oct. 29, 1911 - Nov. 3, 1999
ELKHART – Lillian A. Tarnowieski, 88, of 118 Division St., died at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 3, 1999) at Eastlake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Tarnowieski was born on Oct. 29, 1911, in Cleveland, Va., the daughter of Noah and Margaret (Sutherland) Dotson, and moved to Detroit after graduating from high school. In Detroit, she worked for a women’s boutique before coming to Elkhart.
She married , and later separated from, Rudolph Tarnowieski, who died in 1988. She is survived by a son, Dale H. Tarnowieski of New York City; two nieces, Mrs. Leland Thornburgh of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Peter Keesee of San Antonio, Texas; and a nephew, Thomas A. Brown of Rhode Island.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. A memorial service will be held at a later date following cremation. Burial will be at Rice cemetery, with Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Tarnowieski was recognized at a “Celebration of Our Elders” ceremony in New York City several years ago for her many acts of charity and service to community and friends.
Memorials may be given to any organization benefiting terminally ill children or the visually impaired.

GORDON T. LINK
Jan. 29, 1925 - May 9, 2000
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The memorial service for Gordon T. “Gordie” Link will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church in South Bend with the Rev. Claude Junior officiating.
Cremation has taken place, with Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Link, 75, of 461 Pinellas Way S., formerly of South Bend, died on May 9, 2000, at Bay Front Medical Center.
He was born in Traverse City, Mich., on Jan. 29, 1925, to Harry C. and Mamie (Tomlinson) Link, and graduated from Plymouth High School and Purdue University.
On Sept. 17, 1960, he married Judith M. Lenczowski in Roseland and she survives with three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Lorrie) Burhans of Cornell, Mich., Mrs. Jerry (Susan) Bozzo of Elkhart and Nancy Clark of Plano, Texas; seven grandchildren; three great - grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Montgomery of San Rafael, Calif.
A sister, Katherine Turner; and a brother, Harry, are deceased.
Mr. Link formerly worked for Bendix Corp. as an engineering technician and was vice president of Imagineering in South Bend. He also was a Realtor in St. Petersburg.
He was a charter member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and First Unitarian Church of South Bend and a member of the Bendix Male Chorus. He was past president of the South Bend Civic Theatre and an inductee in their Hall of Fame in 1998, former choir director at Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church and St. Andrews Lutheran Church and a former member of the St. Petersburg Adult Community Band and Selma Grotto Band. He was the Pasadena Community Church orchestra conductor from 1984 to 1991 and a volunteer at Palms of Pasadena Hospital.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or Texas Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2105 Luna Road, Suite 390, Carrollton, TX 75006.

CLAUDE A. DIXON
ELKHART — Claude A. Dixon, 65, of 2027 Miller Drive, died at 8:50 p.m. Sunday (May 14, 2000) in the emergency room at Elkhart General Hospital following a brief illness.
Arrangements are pending at Billings Funeral Home.

DR. ALFRED H. FREE
April 11, 1913 - May 15, 2000
ELKHART — Dr. Alfred H. Free, 87, of 3752 E. Jackson Blvd., died at Goshen General Hospital at 12:54 a.m. Monday (May 15, 2000).
Dr. Free, well - known chemist, professor and research scientist at Miles Inc., was born April 11, 1913, in Bainbridge, Ohio, to Alfred H. and Alice (Cymer) Free. On Oct. 18, 1947, he married Helen M. Murray in Athens, Ohio, and she survives.
He is also survived by five daughters, Mrs. Richard (Jane) Linderman of Wallingford, Pa., Barb Free of East Lansing, Mich., Mrs. Charles (Penny Free) Burke of Glendale, Ariz., Mrs. Mike (Bonnie) Grisz of Dallas and Mrs. David (Nina) Lovejoy of Encinitas, Calif.; four sons, Charles (Thora) of Pennington, N.J., Eric (Sheryl McClure), Kurt (Donna) and James “Jake” (Jenny), all of Elkhart; 15 grandchildren; two great - grandchildren; and a sister, Gertrude Scott of Bainbridge.
One sister and a brother are deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. E.W. Morak officiating. Cremation will follow.
Dr. Free graduated magna cum laude in 1934 with a degree in chemistry, received a master’s degree in 1936 and doctorate in biochemistry in 1939, all from Western Reserve University.
He began his career as a research assistant at the Research Division Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and was a consultant at BenVenue Laboratories in Bedford, Ohio, from 1943 to 1946. He joined Miles - Ames Research Laboratory and was head of the biochemistry department from 1946 to 1959 and director from 1959 to 1964.
He was named head of Ames Technical Services from 1964 to 1972 and vice president of Technical Services and Scientific Relations from 1972 to 1977. He retired in 1978 as vice president of scientific relations of Ames Co., Division of Miles Inc., served as senior scientific consultant of the Diagnostic Division of Miles Inc. and chairman of Lenal Creative Approaches Inc. from 1978 to 1999.
Dr. Free held appointments of fellow, instructor, assistant professor and associate professor of biochemistry at Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and elder, the Friday Club, Miles Quarter Century Club, Elks Club, Junto Club and Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity and charter member of Elcona Country Club.
He was past president of Elkhart Noon Lions Club and co - founder of the Lions Eye Bank of Indiana, serving as first chairman of the board of directors. He has been featured in “Who’s Who in the Midwest, ” “Who’s Who of the Science World, ” “Who’s Who in Science and Engineering” and “American Men and Women of Science.”
Dr. Free was inducted into the Engineering and Science Hall of Fame and recipient of the Laboratory Public Service Leadership Award, Clinical Chemist Award, Melvin Jones Fellow Award, Medical Economics 40 - year Award, Elkhart Lions Club Award for Citizen of the Year, Mosher Award, AACC Award for Outstanding Contributions in clinical chemistry, the Diploma of Honor from the Association of Clinical Scientists and the Honor Scroll Award.
Memorials may be given to Riverview Adult Day Care Center, 2715 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46516.

ALICE DIENER
Aug. 31, 1901 - May 13, 2000
GOSHEN — Friends of Alice Diener may call one hour before the 10 a.m. funeral service today at The Meetinghouse. Pastors Nancy Kauffmann and Firman Gingerich will officiate and burial will be at Mount Zion cemetery in Versailles, Mo.
Yoder - Culp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Diener, 98, of 1225 Greencroft Drive, died at 6:55 p.m. Saturday (May 13, 2000) at Greencroft Healthcare Center.
She was born Aug. 31, 1901, in Hickory County, Mo., the daughter of Moses and Sarah (Raber) Diener, and moved to Goshen in June 1989.
She is survived by two nieces, Carol and Caroline Nebel, both of Goshen; and a sister, Esther Diener of Goshen. Two brothers, George and Edward; and three sisters, Pearl Nebel, Elizabeth Garber and Beulah Diener, are deceased.
Miss Diener worked in the housekeeping and food service departments at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was a member of College Mennonite Church.
Memorials may be given to the church or Greencroft Foundation.
