Sydney J. “Jack” Williams
Oct. 11, 1926 - March 3, 2005
NAPLES, Fla. — Sydney Jackson “Jack” Williams, 78, passed away March 3, 2005, at his home in Naples, Fla.
He was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Anderson, Ind. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1944. He was drafted into the Navy and served 19 months in Corpus Christi, Texas. He graduated from Indiana University in 1949 with a degree in chemistry and continued his education at Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind., and graduated with a Ph.D. in pharmacy in 1952. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Jack served as a pharmacist mate in the Navy during World War II.
For 30 years he lived and worked as pharmacist and owner of the Edgewood Pharmacy and the Community Drive-in Pharmacy, the first drive-in pharmacy in Anderson. He served as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Anderson. He retired to Naples, Fla., where he was a member of the Moorings Presbyterian Church, Wyndemere Country Club and the Naples Yacht Club.
Jack was a lifelong fan of tennis and was an accomplished player who won many trophies and awards. He enjoyed boating and water skiing for much of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jacqueline Marie Yust Williams; a son, Sydney Jackson Williams Jr. and his wife, Lorie of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Jana Marie Emerson, her husband, Geoffrey; and two grandchildren, Sydney Marie Emerson and Griffin Allan Emerson of Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Betty Williams; and by his brother, Tom Williams.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Moorings Presbyterian Church in Naples, 791 Harbour Drive.

Geraldine L. Forney
March 1, 1941 - March 2, 2005
MIDDLETOWN — Geraldine L. “Gerry” Forney, 64, went home March 2, 2005, to be with the Lord after a long battle with an extended illness.
She was born March 1, 1941, in Lake Geneva, Wis., the daughter of Hilbert and Ada Daniels. Gerry moved to Middletown in 1969 where she devoted her life to raising her children. She operated a home day care for many years and cared for several foster children.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Forney of Middletown; two daughters, Janet Vibbert of Middletown and Beth (Rick) Corbin of Anderson; a son, Mark (Su Brown) Hardegen of Middletown; three stepsons, Wayne Forney of Middletown, Richard (Asazalia) Forney of Greenville, Ohio, and Roscoe (Renee) Forney of Ansonia, Ohio; 11 blessed grandchildren, Heather Vibbert of Middletown, Ashley, Zachary and Cody Painter of Anderson, Cressida and Devin Hardegen of Middletown, Allison Forney of Middletown, Asazalia Diane and Riva Forney of Greenville, Ohio, and Rheianna and Roscoe Forney Jr., of Ansonia, Ohio; and many special family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hilbert, in 1956; her mother, Ada, in 1976; and a brother, Donny, in 1995.
Cremation will take place today at Leppert Mortuary & Crematory Services.
No memorial service will be held. Gerry wanted her family and friends to remember her in life.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Bakdash and Dr. Hampton for their special care of our mother.
Joan Humphries
June 2, 1928 - March 3, 2005
FRANKTON — Joan Humphries, 76, a lifelong resident of Frankton, died March 3, 2005, at ManorCare Health Service in Anderson.
She was born June 2, 1928, in Madison County, the daughter of Lewis and Iva May (Haygood) Ashby. She married
Bobby G. Humphries on Aug. 4, 1950.
She retired from Delco Remy of Anderson and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 662. She was past president of Frankton and Pendleton American Legion Ladies Auxiliaries and past 5th District president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She was an avid Frankton girls basketball fan.
Survivors include three sons, Stephen Humphries of Frankton, Michael Humphries of Arcadia and Marc (wife, Kelle) Humphries of Frankton; two sisters, Carolyn (husband, Jack) Payne of Tennessee and Ethel (husband, Steve) Smith; four brothers, Marvin (wife, Nancy) Ashby of Alexandria, Keith (wife, Barbara) Ashby of Anderson, Kenny Ashby and Jimmy Ashby; 12 grandchildren, John and Misty Humphries of Alexandria, Bobby, Adam and Devon Humphries of Anderson, Stephen B. Humphries of Pendleton, Jeremy Humphries of Frankton, Seth (wife, Missy) Humphries of Miami, Fla., Hannah Walsh of Bloomington, Nathan Walsh of Elwood, Tabitha Humphries of Indianapolis, and Kassie Humphries of Frankton; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Bobby G. Humphries, on Oct. 5, 1984; her parents, Lewis and Iva May (Haygood) Ashby; three brothers, Marion Ashby, Junior Ashby and Monroe Ashby; and sisters, Alice Harshman and Darlene Brewer.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harper & Dunnichay Funeral Home, Frankton, with the Rev. Arthur Darrah officiating. Burial will be in K of P-IOOF cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
Raeburn A. Cannon
July 20, 1910 - March 2, 2005
ELWOOD — Raeburn Ann (O’Malley) Cannon, 94, Elwood, died March 2, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness.
She had taught English, journalism, remedial reading and Spanish in university, high school and middle school systems in Indiana. She was also finance officer and later president and CEO of Cannon Products Inc., Elwood.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann (Cannon) and husband Fran Luedtke and Catherine “Cathy” Cannon; two sons, William Patrick “Rick” (wife, Lori Shpunt) Cannon Jr. and Michael Francis “Kee” Cannon II; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 43 years, William P. Cannon, died on July 4, 1984.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood with the Rev. Paul Cochran officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. and the St. Vincent Mercy Hospital Volunteers will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Community VNA Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
William W. Crawford
March 12, 1919 - March 2, 2005
GREENWOOD — William W. Crawford, 85, Greenwood, died March 2, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital.
He was born March 12, 1919, in Lebanon, the son of Orval and Estella (Beck) Crawford. He married
Lenora “Nonie” Brown on Oct. 17, 1942. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2003.
William was a graduate of Butler University and a lifelong C.P.A.
He was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, Sigma Nu Fraternity, Prospect Masonic Lodge, Greenwood City Council, Greenwood School Board, Board of Directors, National Bank of Greenwood. He was an avid golfer and involved in numerous civic organizations.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Aircorps.
Survivors include a daughter, Sally DeVoe of Alexandria; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, William W. Crawford Jr.; and two brothers, Dr. John A. Crawford and Col. Richard I. Crawford.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Hoppes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greenwood United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Services are entrusted to Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel.
Mark E. Lewis
Feb. 10, 1960 - March 2, 2005
Mark E. Lewis, 45, Anderson, died March 2, 2005, at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, after an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 10, 1960, in Anderson, and was a lifelong Anderson resident. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a pit crew member at Anderson Speedway. Mark loved to hunt and work on cars.
He is survived by his father, Charles “Bud” Lewis; son, Todd and wife Nicole Lewis of Anderson; sister, Vicki and husband Larry Montgomery of Anderson; brother, Ronald L. and wife Gloria Lewis of Virginia; granddaughter, Tylee Lewis; stepgrandchild, Jaylen Leonard; aunt, Christine and husband Dave Zook of Anderson; uncle Bill and wife Joyce Seal of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn (Seal) Lewis; grandparents, William and India Seal and Ronald and Mary Lewis; and an uncle, Bill Lewis.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, with Rob Mifflin officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the South Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Kidney Fund or American Diabetes Association.
Harry W. McKowen
Jan. 24, 1912 - March 1, 2005
ALEXANDRIA — Harry W. McKowen, 93, Alexandria, died March 1, 2005, at Community Hospital, Anderson, after a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 24, 1912, in Alexandria, the son of Woodie C. McKowen and Edna F. Manring
McKowen, and has resided in the Alexandria area all of his lifetime.
Harry attended Dead Dog School in rural Alexandria. He was a well-known farmer in the area, having farmed since 1942. He had won several corn production awards down through the years. He was a member of both Grant County and Madison County Farm Bureaus. He enjoyed gardening, spending time at Lake Wawasee and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie (Boswell) McKowen of Anderson; stepson, Lonnie (Sue) Neff of Anderson; two stepgrandsons, Steve and Chad Neff of Anderson; stepgreat-grandchildren, Samantha and Kyle Neff; special friends, George Sparks, Donetta Tumulty, Virgil and Lucille Sparks, all of Alexandria, Sandra Lovegrove of Daleville and Tinka Bach of Fairmount.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul
McKowen and Clarence McKowen; sisters, Catherine Burton and Florence Hall; and a nephew, Tom Hall.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Edsel Joyner, pastor of Orestes Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Park View cemetery, Alexandria.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
E. Louise Chatterson
Dec. 22, 1920 - March 1, 2005
ALEXANDRIA — E. Louise Chatterson, 84, Alexandria, died March 1, 2005, at Community Hospital Anderson after an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 22, 1920, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of James and Ruth (McKee) Reeves.
Louise was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria, Daughters of the American Revolution-Anderson Chapter, P. Buckley Moss Society. She was an accomplished seamstress and taught a knitting class. Louise was a talented artist and enjoyed painting ceramics and plates. Louise was a devoted volunteer. She volunteered her time to serve as a Girl Scout leader in Michigan and Indiana and served as a Pink Lady at Community Hospital in Anderson. She was an avid bridge player.
Survivors include her husband, George Chatterson, whom she married
Jan. 25, 1940; a son, Michael (wife, Marge) Chatterson of Alexandria; a sister,
Barbara Mahan of Ferndale, Mich.; six grandchildren, Dr. Michael A. Chatterson, Mark Chatterson, Mindy Childers, Melissa Chatterson, Steven Ely and Sharon Carrell; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Ely; and a sister, Elaine Reeves.
Mass of Christian Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at the Church of St. Mary with the Rev. Paul Cochran as celebrant. Cremation will follow at the convenience of the family.
Visitation was held 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Whetsel Funeral Service where a Christian Wake Service concluded the visitation.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the St. Mary’s Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
