Nellie M.M. Eldridge
May 7, 1920 - Nov. 27, 2004

Nellie M.M. (Jones) Eldridge went home to be with the Lord, Nov. 27, 2004, at St. John's Medical Center after an extended illness.

She was born May 7, 1920, the daughter of James and Mary Jones. She was united in marriage to Ezell E. Eldridge Sr. in 1937. To this union 10 children were born. Mother Eldridge was a faithful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She devoted her life to Christ at an early age under the pastorship of the late Rev. Devasure and continued her walk with Christ under the leadership of the late Rev. Williams and the late Rev. Galmore, all at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Church Upon the Rock under the leadership of the late Rev. Dorsey Taylor. She continued her fellowship until her health failed. She was a great contributor to the church, an officer on the board of directors, and also on the mother's board.

She was a faithful member of the Democratic Party and Committee where she worked for the late Jack Dawson and his family during his precinct commitment years. With her beautiful penmanship, she loved corresponding with family and friends, reading and writing inspirational letters and poems.

She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her passing eight surviving children, Robert 'Bobby' Eldridge Sr., Rosemary Remson, Sandra K. (Jones) Summerville, Bonnie Y. Morgan, and Eric D. (Karen) Eldridge, all of Anderson, Elaine T. Shoemaker and husband Chester of Muncie, Ezell E. Eldridge Jr., and wife Audrey of Seminole, Okla., and Myron J. Eldridge of Montgomery, Ala.; 32 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; a host of adopted grandchildren; cousins, Leola Nipples, Clawd Hall, Gloria and Jim Horn, and Johnny Smith; special friends, Dolly Tamper, Velma Cole, Annie Porter, Bernice Brooks, Willa Mae Wilkerson and Geraldine Hoosier; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezell E. Eldridge Sr.; two daughters, Ramona and Shenita Eldridge; her parents, James and Mary Jones; a sister, Vivian Locke; sister-in-law, Jimmie D. Smith; uncle, Eddie Jones; cousin, Billie T. Turner-Page; and an aunt and uncle, Millie and Sam Townson.

A special thank-you is extended to St. John's Medical Center and Miller's Merry Manor of Middletown for the care given to our mother.

Homegoing services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church Upon the Rock, 303 E. 29th St., with Pastor Will Stigler and the Rev. Anthony Harris officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at L.C. May Funeral Services, 2024 Madison Ave., and two hours before services Thursday at the church.

Chester W. Kronenberg
Aug. 17, 1931 - Nov. 28, 2004

ELWOOD - Chester W. Kronenberg, 73, Elwood, died Nov. 28, 2004, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood.

He was born Aug. 17, 1931, in Kokomo, the son of Chester and Orpha (Bryant) Kronenberg. He married Marjorie Royer on Oct. 6, 1951.

He was a member the U.S. National Guard. He retired from Delco Remy after 36 1/2 years and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 663.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marjorie (Royer) Kronenberg of Elwood; son, Daniel (wife, Sandy) Kronenberg of Elwood; daughter, Christina (husband, Bruce) Phelps of Elwood; grandchildren, Jennifer Reagan and Nicholas Kronenberg; great-grandchildren, Ashley Wolfe and Dylan Reagan; and a sister, Shirley (husband, Harold) Bilyeu of Cookeville, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chester E. Kronenberg; mother, Orpha (Bryant) Kronenberg; brother, Jim Kronenberg; and two sisters, Dolly King and Waneta Thoman.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, with the Revs. Jack and Joe Scholl officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association through the funeral home.

Frances L. Langellier
Oct. 3, 1917 - Nov. 29, 2004

CHESTERFIELD - Frances L. (Callahan) Langellier, 87, Chesterfield, died Nov. 29, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor in Chesterfield after an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 3, 1917, in Iroquois County, Ill., and resided in Anderson and Chesterfield since 1943, moving here from Fowler. She married George H. Langellier, on Jan. 20, 1939, in Fowler.

She was employed in production for Delco Remy for 40 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Killbuck Retirees.

Survivors include three sisters, Lela Huxtable of Noblesville, Jean Selby of Anderson and Marian Blatch of Cordia Lane, Idaho; a brother, Gale Callahan of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters-in-law and spouses, Pauline and George Nichols of Fort Wayne and Marge and Tom Cheevers of Sacramento, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Alta (Williams) Callahan; her husband of 54 years, George H. Langellier, on May 16, 1993; and a sister, Beulah Landry.

Private family services will be conducted with the Rev. Robert Williams of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in John the Baptist cemetery in Earl Park, Ind.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.

Helen M. Partain
Jan. 3, 1919 - Nov. 27, 2004

Helen M. (McMahan) Partain, 85, Anderson, died Nov. 27, 2004, at her residence after a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Anderson, and lived in this area all of her life. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson where she was involved in the Dorcas Circle and the Estey Club. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star 154, and Madison County Homemakers Extension Club Golden Rule.

She is survived by her children, Donald K. Partain II and wife Jan of Tennessee, and Gary D. Partain and wife Gerri of Virginia; daughter-in-law, Joan D. Partain of Muncie; grandchildren, Anna Woodcock of Iowa, Stephen Partain of Muncie, Kendrick Partain of Virginia, Lorrie Phillips of Chesterfield and Beth Raymond of Plymouth; stepgrandson, Kent of Florida; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald K. Partain, in 1988; her parents, Frank and Mamie (Woodyard) McMahan; son, Ronald L. Partain, in 1995; and a brother, Robert McMahan.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, with the Rev. Bruce McNeeley officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood cemetery, Anderson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the South Chapel. OES memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 907 N. Raible Ave., Anderson, IN 46011.

Mary E. Landes
April 5, 1929 - Oct. 14, 2004

INDIANAPOLIS - Mary E. Landes, 75, former Anderson resident, died Oct. 14, 2004, at her son's residence.

She was born April 5, 1929, in Anderson. She lived in Anderson until 1981 and then moved to Indianapolis.

She retired, in 1995, from Defense Finance Accounting Service Center in Indianapolis.

She attended Unity Church in Indianapolis. She was very proud of her children.

She is survived by her daughter, Terry Robare of Indianapolis; son and daughter-in-law, William 'Bill' and Nannette Landes II of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Stacy M. Robare and Katharyn E. (husband, David) Childress, all of Indianapolis, and Nathan Landes of Anderson; a great-granddaughter, Alexandra Childress of Indianapolis; two brothers, Terry Ford of Muncie and Jesse Ford of New Mexico; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles W. and Effie Pearl (Pettigrew) Ford; her former husband, William J. Landes Sr.; a sister; and a brother.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson. Entombment will be in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice VNA.

Warren M. Belt

Warren M. Belt, 75, Anderson, died Feb. 3, 2005, at his residence. Arrangements are pending at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home.

Chester L. Edwards

Chester L. Edwards, 98, died peacefully on Jan. 20, 2005, at the National Lutheran Home in Rockville, Md., where he had resided for more than four years.

He was born in Kirwin, Kan., on May 1, 1906. His family lived in Loxicy, Ala., from 1916 to 1922 when they moved to Topeka, Kan. There he worked in the accounting department of the Santa Fe Railroad through the Depression years and in 1932 was ordained to the ministry of the Church of God.

He gave many years of dedicated service to the Topeka Church of God, which his mother had helped to establish. On Sept. 14, 1928, he married Verle Newth who died in 1988. On March 31, 1990, he married Teresa Edwards. She died on Dec. 23, 1993.

In 1943 Chester moved his family to Anderson, Ind., in order to accept a position at Anderson University (formerly Anderson College) in the accounting department. In 1955 he earned a B.S. degree from Anderson, and in 1970 the college conferred on him an honorary LLD degree. During his 28 years of dedicated service to Anderson College he was actively involved in the construction of 10 major campus buildings.

In 1971 he retired from his position as business manager and treasurer. He was an active member of numerous professional and civic organizations.

After a year off for travel, he returned to Anderson for another four years as business administrator of Park Place Church of God and chairman of Retirees Fellowship, which grew from a small beginning to about 300 in attendance.

In 1974 Chester and Verle Edwards were senior citizen interns in the office of Congressman Bud Hillis in Washington, D.C.

Retirement years in San Diego, California were filled with devoted service to the El Cajon Church of God, where he taught the senior class for many years. He oversaw the ministry of Senior Adult Fellowship Enrichment of Southern California for several years in the 1980s.

He is survived by his daughter, Fern Edwards of Rockville, Md.; grandchildren, Douglas Edwards of Valparaiso, Fla., Karen Edwards of Fort Worth, Texas, and Dale Edwards of Casselberry, Fla.; great-grandson, Joshua Edwards of League City, Texas; stepdaughter, Jane Gray of Pittsburgh, Calif.; and by extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Ronald, April 6, 1970.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Anderson University (Development Office, 1100 E Fifth St., Anderson IN 46012).

A memorial service will be held on Chester’s 99th birthday, Sunday, May 1, 2005, at 2:30 p.m., at the Clairemont Church of God, 4955 Conrad Ave., San Diego, CA 92117; phone (858) 278-6802.

Terry L. Davidson

MUNCIE — Terry L. Davidson, 52, Muncie, passed away Feb. 2, 2005, at Ball Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.

He was born Aug. 29, 1952, in New Castle, the son of Dallas and Carol Mercer. He graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1972.

He had worked with Ace Fruit Co., and Sam Pugh and Sons prior to working as a tool consultant for Sears & Roebuck for 18 years. He was a member of New Life Nazarene of Anderson, Eagles Lodge 231 of Muncie, Moose Lodge 33 of Muncie, and Bass Anglers Sportsman Society.

Survivors include his wife, Anita (Beadle) Davidson, whom he married Dec. 22, 2004; two daughters, Susan Lynn (fiancé, Chuck Daniel) Smith of Farmland, and Leslie Ann Davidson of Muncie; granddaughter, Jessica Smith of Farmland; mother, Carol V. Mercer of Muncie; brother, Ken R. Mercer of Muncie; two sisters, Cathy (husband, Greg) Collins of Muncie, and Sharon (husband, Rick) Jones of Muncie; nephew, Joey Smith; two nieces, Brandy Smith and Kristi Mercer; beloved cocker spaniels, Smitts and Macy; mother-in-law, Mary Beadle of Anderson; brother-in-law, Neil (wife, Michelle) Beadle of Anderson; nephews, Josh Beadle and Gabriel (wife, Alyson) Beadle; one great-niece, Hannah; special friend, Jerry Barrett; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dallas Mercer; father-in-law, Max Beadle; and sister-in-law, Linda Beadle.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Parson Mortuary, Muncie, pastor and special friend Larry Delaney officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory cemetery.

Visitation will be 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to “ARF” Animal Rescue Fund, 1209 West Riggin Road, Muncie, IN 47303.

James A. Griffin

ALEXANDRIA — James A. “Jim” Griffin, 84, Alexandria, died Feb. 2, 2005, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 29, 1921, in Alexandria, the son of James A. and Ethel (Benefiel) Griffin, and resided in Alexandria all of his lifetime, before moving to Muncie one year ago. Jim graduated from Alexandria High School Class of 1938. He then attended and graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne in 1941. He worked at International Harvester Co. until being called to military service in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force and enlisted reserves from 1943 to 1949 being discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.

Jim worked for Johns-Manville Corp., formerly of Alexandria, for more than 34 years, retiring in 1981. He was purchasing agent for the company and also worked in cost accounting.

Jim was very devoted in his service as a member of the First United Methodist Church in Alexandria. He has served on numerous committees and served as trustee of the church for several years. There was scarcely a square inch of the church property that he was not familiar with. He was church treasurer for 43 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Johns-Manville Quarter Century Club and a past member of the Alexandria American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Hildreth (McKowen) Griffin, whom he married June 15, 1951; a son, Jeff (Amy) Griffin of Indianapolis; daughter, Lisa Griffin of Indianapolis; brother, Ray (Peggy) Griffin of Union City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1951; his mother in 1979; and a sister, Rosemary Hinton, in 2004.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, 116 W. Broadway, Alexandria, with Pastor Jerry Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Park View cemetery in Alexandria. The Elwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5782 will perform military honors at the graveside.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, and one hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home.
