Opal M. Hayden

TIPTON - Opal M. 'Dot' Hayden, 83, rural Tipton, died Oct. 7, 2004, at her residence after a brief illness.
Survivors include two sisters, Louise Singer and Jeannie Martin; special niece, Dee Ann Kleyla; and several other nieces and nephews.
Her husband of eight and a half years, Marion Earl Hayden, died on March 23, 1993.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, Elwood. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery in Elwood.
Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association through the funeral home.
Dessie Baum
Nov. 24, 1912 - Oct. 7, 2004
Dessie Baum, 91, Anderson, passed away Oct. 7, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor in Chesterfield after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 24, 1912, in Arcadia, the daughter of Jacob L. and Louisa (Deaver) Crull. She was a homemaker and a lifelong Anderson resident.
She was an excellent cook and a wonderful Granny. She always had advice for everyone and was the ultimate shopper. She was spirited with a great sense of humor.
She is survived by three daughters, Alice Baum-Yattaw, Rosemary Campbell and Loretta Lukens, all of Anderson; nine grandchildren, Susan (husband, Phil) Yattaw-Dashler, Dawn (husband, Dan) Fischer, Sharon (husband, Steve) Fleck, Robin (husband, Charles) Fee, Marty (husband, Kyle) Armstrong, Tracy (husband, Tom) Ash, Sharon Campbell, Gregory (wife, Isabel) Lukens and Janalee Lukens; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are special friends, Phyllis Hopkins, Mary McFarland and special friends at Cracker Barrel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers and sisters; including a twin sister, Jessie, in 1974; and granddaughter, Lonnie Richardson.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Velma K. Lycan
March 26, 1928 - Oct. 6, 2004
Velma Katherine (Gross) Lycan, 76, Anderson, died Oct. 6, 2004, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born March 26, 1928, in Anderson, and was a lifelong Anderson resident. She was employed in production and inspection for Guide Lamp for 36 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 127 for 39 years.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale E. (Karen) Lycan and James R. (Liza) Lycan, all of Anderson; two daughters, Vera A. Hook and Kathy G. (Terry) Toombs, all of Anderson; adopted daughter and son-in-law, Dana (Darrell) Wheatly of Polk County, Fla.; special friends, Betty and Wilma, her girls; sisters, Cora M. Nickerson of Ingalls and Mary Jo Rummel of Mishawaka; best friend, Darlene Dyal of Paris, Ill.; the love of her life, Charles E. Lycan; nine grandchildren, Shannon Lycan, Michael D. and Stacy Lycan, Charles G. Lycan, William Brie Lycan, Elisha A. Lycan, Justin D. Robertson, Joshua and Jody Baker, Danny Dyal and Becky Lycan; adopted grandchildren, Chris Wade and Melissa Penn; great-grandchildren, Chelcie L. Haskett, Cheyenne L. Baker, Jordan T. Baker and Kaelie R. Lycan; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Vera B. (Skinner) Gross.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with the Rev. R.B. Bingham and Tim Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community VNA Hospice or the American Heart Association.
Virginia E. Beals
April 18, 1918 - Oct. 6, 2004
Virginia E. (Thomas) Beals, 86, Anderson, died Oct. 6, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services after an extended illness.
She was born April 18, 1918, in Elwood, and lived in Anderson since 1979. She owned and operated a rest home in Ohio for five years. She worked as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital in Elwood for 10 years.
She was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Anderson.

Survivors include four children, Kenneth William Pinckley of Aurora, Colo., Lawrence Wayne Beals of Tipton, Patricia Keesling of Anderson and Connie K. (husband, Daniel) Fuller of Chesterfield; daughter-in-law, Rosie Beals of Tipton; sister and brother-in-law, Delberta Mae and Kenny Mauck of Anderson; brother and sister-in-law, Donald C. and Kem Thomas of Anderson; sister-in-law, Frances Thomas of Marion; special friend, Wanita Nowak of Bryan, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ethel Mable (Payne) Thomas; husband, Lester Leroy Beals;, whom she married
in May of 1938 in Bryan, Ohio; two brothers, William Thomas and Edward Thomas; and three grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with the Rev. John Young of St. Matthew United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation will take place.
Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospital Extended Care Unit.
Lois C. Stickler Bunker

NOBLESVILLE - Lois Caroline (Musselman) Stickler Bunker, 81, Noblesville, died Oct. 7, 2004, at Riverwalk Village, Noblesville, after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Noblesville, and resided in Noblesville. She lived half of her life in Noblesville and half of her life in Anderson.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Fifth Street United Methodist Church and currently was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her two daughters, Linda and husband Marshall Hatton of Gaston, and Nancy and husband William Erdes of Frankfort; sister, Katherine and husband Kenneth Yocom of Pendleton; eight grandchildren, Ron Hatten, Sandra Stoeffler, Marsha Hatten, Steve Hatten, David Hatten, Christopher Hinshaw, Jennifer Hinshaw and Shane Erdes; three great-grandchildren, Evan Hatten, Branden Stoeffler and Kayla Stoeffler; and a nephew, Duane Stickler.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilbur Stickler, on Sept. 4, 1984; second husband, Ward Bunker, in 1991; parents, Jesse and Mary (Brown) Musselman; son, Robert Stickler; and two brothers, Maurice Musselman and Claude Musselman.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, with the Rev. John Young officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the South Chapel.

Sandra J. Stapleton
Feb. 9, 1941 - Oct. 7, 2004
Sandra J. 'Suz' (Kirk) Stapleton, 63, Anderson, died Oct. 7, 2004, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 9, 1941, in Frankfort, and lived in this area most of her life. She was a hairdresser and was owner/operator of Suzy's Beauty Salon. She was a 1958 graduate of Madison Heights High School in Anderson.
She was a member of Kingston Avenue Baptist Church in Anderson, where she was involved in the church choir and belonged to Kingston Clowns. She was also a member of the Women's Bowling League and she loved to paint and garden
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Dwayne Stapleton; sons, David Stapleton of Mount Olive, N.C., Daniel Stapleton of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Donald Stapleton of Anderson; her mother, Margaret (Clausen) Kirk; brother, Mike (wife, Brenda) Kirk of Anderson; grandchildren: Elliott, Amanda, John Paul, Daniel and Dallas; one great-grandchild, Bailey; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Jack and Jan Baker; and caregivers, Jackie Ellingwood, Mary Brand and Judy Myers
She was preceded in death by her father, John F. Kirk.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Kingston Avenue Baptist Church, 5403 Kingston Ave., Anderson, with Pastor Brad Smith officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, and one hour before services Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions make be made payable to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
W. Sam Jones
Aug. 17, 1932 - Oct. 7, 2004
INGALLS - W. Sam Jones, 72, Ingalls, died Oct. 7, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 17, 1932, in Sebastopol, Miss., and lived in Ingalls since 1955, wintering in Bradenton, Fla., since 1990.
He was a salesman for Abrasive Products, Fortville, for 20 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Huntsville/Good Shepherd Community Church, Pendleton. He was an Army veteran.
He was a member and past commander of the Fortville American Legion Post, member of AMVETS Post of Pendleton, Idlewold Country Club, Pendleton, and the Masonic Lodge. He was a past member of the Lions Club. He was an avid golfer having shot a hole in one four times.
Survivors include two children, Tammy (husband, Jeff) Webster of Pendleton and Anthony (wife, Vicki) Jones of Indianapolis; brother, Jim Jones of Mississippi; sister, Flora White of Mississippi; and four grandchildren, Alex Webster, Mitchell Webster, Glenn Jones and Drew Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Giles and Nellie (Loper) Jones; three brothers, Hubert Jones, Bud Jones and Dee Jones; and a sister, Sarah Graham.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Bright Chapel, Pendleton, with the Rev. Carl Cloud officiating. Burial will be in Gravel Lawn cemetery, Fortville.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday and one hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross Florida Hurricane Relief.
Norma L. Wardlow
Aug. 18, 1914 - Oct. 6, 2004
MUNCIE - Norma L. Wardlow, 90, Muncie, died Oct. 6, 2004, at Ball Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 18, 1914, in Anderson, and lived in Anderson most of her life before moving in with her daughter in 2001.
She was a secretary for the Adjunant General at Fort Benjamin Harrison Hospital and also employed by Social Security Administration. She owned and operated Norma's Ceramics.
She was a member of the Pendleton United Methodist Church and White Shrine of Jerusalem, Bethesda, No. 11.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol A. Murdock of Muncie; three grandsons, Daniel A. Murdock, Philip E. and Jean Murdock and Kenneth G. and Angela Murdock; a granddaughter, Cheryl K. and David Douthitt; two stepgrandsons, Daniel G. Murdock and Michael Murdock; a stepgrandaughter, Tina Williams; five great-grandsons, Ryan Evans, Jeremy Evans, Jamison Murdock, Chance Murdock and Mark Douthitt; two stepgreat-granddaughters, Debbie Douthitt and Kristi Kramer; and several nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cletus V. and May (Fisher) Fippen; a sister, Elsie Straub; a brother, Richard L. Fippen; and a nephew, Cletus A. Fippen.
Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, Anderson, with Pastor Tim Peters of God's Free Will Tabernacle in Gaston. Burial will be in Oaklandon IOOF cemetery in Oaklandon.
Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. White Shrine of Jerusalem memorial services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Dorothy G. Tinkle

WARREN - Dorothy G. Tinkle, 97, Warren, died Oct. 7, 2004, at Warren United Methodist Memorial Home.
She was born in Grant County to the late William O. and Martha (Hiatt) Miller. She had lived in Anderson, Hagerstown, Clearwater, Fla., Sweetser and the past 13 years at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren. She had attended the Jalapa, Morris Chapel and Warren Memorial Home Methodist churches. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and had love for music.
Survivors include a son, Bill (Naomi) McClintock of Fort Myers, Fla.; two daughters, Sharon (Roger) Whetsel of Winchester, Tenn., and Beth (Jerry) Doddridge of Cambridge City; stepsons, Charles (Linda) Bagley of Anderson, Bob (Mary Ellen) Trinkle of Sweetser, Glen Allen (Jean) Tinkle of Marion and Verne (Judy) Trinkle of Marion; stepdaughter, Helen Ancil of Marion; daughters-in-law, Val Bagley of Lecanto, Fla., and Beverly McClintock of Hagerstown;
She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Ira McClintock, Roy Bagley and Oren Tinkle; her brothers, Donald and David Miller; her sisters, Lois Phillips and Jean Hunt; sons, Junior McClintock and Herbert Estes (Mac) McClintock; grandsons, Bill and Dale McClintock; and stepson, Claude Bagley.
Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Warren United Methodist Memorial Home, 801 S. Huntington Ave., Warren, with the Rev. John Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Knox Chapel cemetery, Point Isabel.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the memorial home.
