Alice Walker

Alice 'Peach' (Merrick) Walker, 95, Anderson, died Oct. 4, 2004, at Rawlins House in Pendleton of natural causes.
She was born March 27, 1909, in Anderson, and was a lifelong resident of Madison County. She was the owner/operator of Peach's Pancake Cottage on Broadway in North Anderson.
She was a former member of Altrusa and member of First United Methodist Church. She played the piano for Geeting Summer Theater and The Old Mount Hope Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Bill Pierce of Anderson; son, Jon Walker of Kissimmee, Fla.; grandson, Jonathan (wife, Misty) Pierce of Lapel; great-granddaughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Marie Pierce of Lapel; and 'adopted' daughter, Sandy Duggleby.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John Walker; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Ester Merrick, Charles and Mary Merrick, Glen and Mildred Merrick and Keith and Rosemary Merrick; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Ray Brown; and parents, Alfred and Jessie (Farmer) Merrick.
Private family services will be conducted.
Arrangements are being handled by Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.

George R. Mills
Dec. 15, 1924 - Oct. 4, 2004
INDIAN LAKE ESTATES, Fla. - Former New Castle resident George Robert Mills, 79, Indian Lake Estates, died Oct. 4, 2004.
He had been vice president of Rushville Production Credit Association in New Castle.
Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth A. Willey, Marilyn S. (husband, Frank) Bradford and Janis L. (husband, Kent) Thomas of Muncie; a son, Robert A. (wife, Ginger) Mills of Middletown; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Masonic services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle, followed by the service with the Rev. George W. Fritschle officiating. Burial will be in Miller cemetery, east of Middletown.
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Indian Lake Estates.
Brandon L. McFarland
May 6, 1980 - Oct. 3, 2004
BROWNWOOD, Texas - Brandon L. McFarland, 24, Brownwood, died Oct. 3, 2004, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center in Brownwood from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born May 6, 1980, in St. Louis Park, Minn., and had lived in Brownwood, Texas, for the past five and one-half years. He was a student at Tarleton State University working toward a pharmacy degree. He graduated from Baylor University with a degree in forensic sciences.
He was a member of Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity.
Survivors include his parents, Bran and Teresa (Daugherty) McFarland of Brownwood, Texas; sister, Kristin McFarland of Brownwood, Texas; paternal grandparents, Dan McFarland of Cape Coral, Fla., and Lou and Gene McMahon of Anderson; maternal grandparents, Frank and Rose Daugherty of Anderson; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Brandon's presence would brighten a sunny day. We are all stronger for sharing part of his life.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, Anderson, with the Rev. Steve Holdzkom of New Horizons United Methodist Church officiating. His body will be entombed in East Maplewood Courtyard Mausoleum.
Visitation will be one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Harold Fields
Feb. 24, 1914 - Oct. 6, 2004
MUNCIE - Harold Fields, 90, Muncie, died Oct. 6, 2004, at Ball Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
He was employed with East Bay Sanitation for 10 years in Riverview, Fla., until his retirement in 1979.
Survivors include three sons, Frederick H. (wife, Becky) Fields of Anderson, Tom (wife, Patty) Fields, and Henry M. (wife, Diana) Fields; a daughter, Janice (husband, Marvin) Doggett; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Fields.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hawk cemetery with Pastor Tom Williams officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are being handled by Parson Mortuary, Muncie.

Mary S. McAllister
April 18, 1942 - Oct. 5, 2004
Mary Sue McAllister, 62, Anderson, died Oct. 5, 2004, at ManorCare Family Tree after an extended illness.
She was born April 18, 1942, in Anderson, where she has lived two years moving back from New York. She was a secretary working at various businesses including CBS in New York City.
Survivors include her stepmother, Marguerite McAllister of Anderson; daughter, Millie Werbel and fiance' Jeff Beck of Anderson; two brothers and a sister-in-law, David McAllister of Nevada and Don and Sue McAllister of Anderson; and two nephews, Travis Brobst and fiancee, Jennifer, of Arizona, and John Henry Brobst of Indianapolis.
Also surviving is special friend, Jim Plummer of Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Vernon (Daily) McAllister; and a sister, Barbara Brobst.
Private family services will be conducted. Cremation will take place.
There will be no visitation.

Norman R. Brock
Oct. 20, 1926 - Oct. 5, 2004
Norman R. Brock, 77, Anderson, died Oct. 5, 2004, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Pekin, and resided in Anderson for 45 years. He worked as a product engineer at Delco Remy in Anderson for 45 years, retiring in 1988.
He graduated from Purdue University with an electrical engineering degree.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was released with a medical discharge.
He was an active member of Columbus Avenue Church of Christ where he served as an elder for 22 years, as well as taught Bible classes. He and his wife traveled to the Ukraine twice on missionary trips. He also enjoyed hunting and tennis in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife, Louise (Worley) Brock of Anderson, whom he married
Aug. 15, 1948; a son, David (wife, Sue) Brock of Richmond; two daughters, Nancy (husband, Mark) Nunley of Daleville, and Mary Lou Brock of Anderson; two brothers, Gene (wife, Jeanie) Brock of Anderson, and Larry (wife, Loretta) Brock of Columbus; four grandchildren, Paul Nunley of Anderson, Jenny Cox of South Bend, Matt Brock of Indianapolis and Lori Brock of Richmond. He also has three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ethan and Connor Nunley; nine nephews and eight nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aley and Susie (Rush) Brock.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, with David Cordry officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood cemetery, Anderson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the South Chapel.
Contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice or Truth for Today.
Victor B. Santiago
March 6, 1972 - Sept. 25, 2004
Victor Bautista Santiago, 32, Anderson, passed away Sept. 25, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born March 6, 1972, in San Francisco Caballua, Oaxaca, Mexico. He lived in California for several years, moving to Anderson in 2002. He was employed by MPB Industries Inc. in Anderson.
He is survived by his mother, Tomasa Santiago Santo of Oaxaca, Mexico; four brothers, Pedro Bautista Santiago, Adolfo Bautista Santiago, Martin Bautista Santiago and Severo Bautista Santiago; three sisters, Cristina Bautista Santiago, Erminia Bautista Santiago and Francisca Bautista Santiago; one uncle; one aunt; 35 nieces and nephews; and 15 cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bartolo Bautista Hernandez.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with Pastor Clinton Meharry officiating. Burial will be in San Isidro Monteverde, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
Laura Manns
GIBSON, Tenn. - Laura Manns, 72, of Gibson, Tenn., died Sept. 27, 2004.
She was a retired U.S. government worker.
Survivors include two daughters, Crystal Manns and Linda Pettit; and sons, James E. Cole of Anderson and Johnny Cole.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Manns.
Services were held Saturday, Oct. 2, in Tennessee with burial in Porter's Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
