GREENWOOD — Former Anderson resident Martin J. “Marty” Cavanaugh Jr., 82, died Aug. 2, 2004, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
He retired in 1981 from General Motors as a personnel manager after 39 years of employment. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Kathleen (Manion) Cavanaugh; and a brother, John Cavanaugh.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church with Msgr. Knueven officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St., Greenwood.

Dorothy I. Dailey
Dorothy I. (DeWeese) Dailey, 85, Anderson, died Aug. 4, 2004, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 9, 1918, in Glenwood, Iowa, and lived most of her life in Anderson. She was a homemaker.
She attended both Main Street Church of God and South Meridian Church of God. She was a former member of the TOPS Club. She was a member of the Friendly Circle Home Economics Club. She married
Charles S. Dailey in Anderson on June 16, 1937.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Gene Rich of Anderson; sister, Janice Sue Harris of Anderson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earnest and Dorothy Dailey of Anderson; a granddaughter, Michelle Rene Rich of Anderson; two nieces, Kim Pierce and Kris Harris; two cousins, Selma Crouch and Marilyn Wiley, all of Anderson; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Lora Florence (Crouch) DeWeese; husband of 65 years, Charles S. Dailey, on Dec. 10, 2002; a daughter, Barbara Ann Dailey; and a son, Ronald Lee Dailey.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with the Rev. Micheal Thompson officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
John E. Maier
CLAYTON, Ohio — John E. Maier, 87, Clayton, passed away Aug. 3, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. John retired after 30 years from Delco Products. He was the former mayor of the Village of Clayton from 1984-1990, served as councilman for the Village of Clayton from 1976-1983. He was a member of the Gettsyburg Baptist Church and served in three different churches as a secretary, Sunday school superintendent and training director.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret (Bruner) Maier; sons and daughter-in-law, John David Maier of Texas and John W. and Sheryl Maier of Indiana; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Chuck Brubaker of Piqua, Ohio; grandchildren, John David Maier, Sheri Lynn Adkins, Stephen and Scott C. Maier; seven great-grandchildren; adopted daughter, Linda Fox of Dayton, Ohio; and special friends, Lily and Trellis Grubbs of Clayton, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Golda (Hartzel) Maier; and brother and sisters.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home, 510 E. Fourth St., London, Ky. Burial will be in Hopkins cemetery in Lily, Ky.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Kindred Funeral Home, 400 Union Blvd., Englewood, Ohio, and two hours before services Sunday at the London, Ky., funeral home.

Martha L. Powers
Martha L. (Everett) Powers, 83, Anderson, died August 3, 2004 at Countryside Manor, Anderson, after an extended illness.
She was born July 2, 1921, in Muncie, and had been an Anderson resident for the last 50 years.
She had been a school bus driver and a teacher’s aide for Anderson Community Schools.
She had attended Ovid Community Church. She was a member of canasta and euchre clubs.
She is survived by her children, Phyllis Paesani of Atlanta, Ga., Bruce and wife Glenda Powers of Indianapolis, Jack and wife Susan Boldman and Jim and wife Kelly Boldman, all of Anderson; daughter-in-law, Gay Powers; 16 grandchildren, Melissa, Aimee, Alicia, Laurinda, Tammy, Shanna, Holly, Jerry, Jeff, Christina, Audrey, Meredith, Jason, Adam, Mandi and Sam; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Powers; her parents, Carl and Lena (Holms) Everett; two sons, Phil Powers and Mark Powers; a sister, Marcella Hildreth; and a son-in-law, Rudy Paesani.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Wooden officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood cemetery, Anderson.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at the South Chapel.

Don McCarty
CLEARWATER, Fla. — Former Anderson resident Don McCarty, 88, died Aug. 3, 2004.
He was born in Pendleton and is a 1935 graduate of Pendleton High School.
He founded Don’s Barbeque restaurant in Anderson and operated it from 1958 to 1978, when he retired to Florida.
Among his survivors are his wife, Miriam; and a daughter, Becky Weatherford of Anderson.
There will be no services.

Donald R. Sorrell
MUNCIE — Donald R. Sorrell, 69, Muncie, died Aug. 2, 2004, at Williamsburg Village Healthcare after an extended illness.
He worked at Marsh as a meat manager then retired after 31 years of service. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Judy Sorrell; three sons David (wife, Kathi) Shady, Kevin (wife, Jennifer) Shady and Landoll (wife, Melanie) Sorrell of Anderson; two daughters, Terry (husband, Greg) Young and Nina (husband, Doug) Sagarsee; three brothers, Ralph Sorrell, Lowell Sorrell and Larry Sorrell; a sister, Marilyn (husband, Bill) Dettman; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Parson Mortuary. Burial will be in Elm Ridge cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Minnie M. Kurlin
Former Elwood resident Minnie M. Kurlin, 73, Anderson, died Aug. 4, 2004, at Community Northview Care Center in Anderson after an extended illness.
She retired in 1995 from the Arizona Department of Welfare where she worked for several years.
Survivors include a daughter, Anita Hunt; two sons, Michael D. Benefiel and Donald Benefiel Jr.; two sisters, Nora Kinder and Ruth Ann Ballinger; two brothers, Clarence A. Ballinger and Robert Ballinger; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Private visitation and funeral services will be held at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, Elwood. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.
Elder Keown
WINDFALL — Windfall resident Elder Keown, 73, died in his Windfall home Aug. 3, 2004, after a long illness.
He was born July 18, 1931, in Morgantown, Ky., the son of Fred and Rosie Mae (Brooks) Keown. He married
Carma Lawrence on April 4, 1963, in Sikson, Mo., and she survives.
Elder attended Windfall schools. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He worked at Haynes International as a group leader for 30 years, retiring in 1983 and he also farmed for 27 years, retiring in 2000. He and Carma attended Mount Gilead Baptist Church in Hemlock. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and was a member of United Steel Workers 2958.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carma Keown of Windfall; a son, Danny Keown and his wife Debra of Windfall; a daughter, Beth Keown of Greentown; five grandchildren, Alissha Turner, Danny Turner, Billy Turner, Jacob Turner and Tommy Turner; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Keown and his wife Joyce of Swayzee, and Emmitt Keown and his wife Carol of Windfall; two sisters, Opal Parrish and her husband Richard of Anderson, and Jessie Sinning and her husband Gary of Kokomo; and a very special friend, Wayne Stiner.
Elder was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lindel Keown.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, with the Rev. Steve Gollner officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden cemetery where the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team will offer his final military services.
Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Wilma Burg
Wilma Burg, 68, Anderson, passed away Aug. 3, 2004, at St. John’s Medical Center after an illness that lasted several months.
She was born Oct. 18, 1935 in Appalachia, Va. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1954 and lived most of her life in Anderson. She worked as a demonstration lady for Pay Less Super Market for 10 years.
She attended Trinity Episcopal Church. She never knew a stranger and volunteered for many years as Community Hospital.
She is survived by three daughters, Kim Camplin of Carmel, Dawn LaPierre of Anderson and Michelle Snell of Anderson; two stepchildren, Cheryl Flory of Anderson and Sandra Hiatt of Marion; four grandchildren, Laura Camplin, Lindsey Camplin, Dylan Snell and Mariah Snell; six stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Flory, Jeff Flory, Kristin Buckley, Matt Buckley, Jason Hiatt and Kendall Hiatt; great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Claus; sister, Juanita (husband, Jim) Pershing of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene G. Burg, on July 11, 2004; parents, Cass and Sunshine (Dye) Alder; two brothers, Jim Alder and J.D. Alder; and sister, Dorlis Schoettmer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with the Revs. Marvin Baker and Perry Pershing officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ira E. Bronner
PENDLETON — Ira Edmund “Ed” Bronner, 61, passed away Aug. 3, 2004, after losing a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 25, 1942, in Hartsville, Tenn., the son of William A. and Deliah (Stafford) Bronner Sr. He was a 1961 graduate of Alexandria High School. He was employed at Delphi as an electrician for the past 31 years. He was a skilled and respected electrician and was recognized as Madison County’s Top Electrician in 2002. Ed loved his work and looked forward each day to going to his job and being with the many friends he made while being there.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor and generosity toward others. Among his many interests were woodworking, stained glass art, and fishing. His love of the water led him to handcraft his own houseboat with trees that he cut from his father-in-law’s woods. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Kinnard, who lovingly cared for him during his illness; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Bronner and Suzanne Renee (husband, Brian) Cohen; a granddaughter, Leah; his mother, Deliah Bronner; three brothers, Hilton (wife, Susie) Bronner, Jim (wife, Lorraine) Bronner and Dennis (wife, Elaine) Bronner; a sister, Helen Wasson; his mother-in-law, Wilma Kinnard; brother-in-law, Jim (wife, Gloria) Kinnard; the mother of his children, Roberta Whitt; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William A. Bronner Sr.; a brother, William A. Bronner Jr.; a brother-in-law, Ray Wasson; and father-in-law, George Kinnard.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Bright Chapel, Pendleton, with Pastor Susan Poynter officiating. Burial will be in Grovelawn cemetery, Pendleton.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services Friday at Bright Chapel.
