Matthew Terry Cleave Blanks, 78, of Fort Wayne, a graduate of Illinois Barber College and a master barber who worked independently, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne.
"He had a zest for life, enjoyed living and expressed it through sharing with others and playing with his grandchildren."
The Rebecca, Ga., native served in the Army for three years.
He was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church for more than 30 years and had been its deacon, a senior choir member and a trustee.
He was a Commandment Keeper at the House of God Church, where he was also a senior deacon and chairman of the deacon for the state of Indiana.
He was a member of the Mass choir and served as a soloist for the weekly telecast ministry.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking and feeding animals.
Surviving are his wife, Lady Rosa L.; sons Dr. Terry Cleave Jr. of Deland, Fla., and Dr. Terry Cornelius of Chicago; a daughter, Theresa Stewart of Fort Wayne; a sister, Cora Martin of Tampa, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home, 1021 E. Lewis St., with calling one hour before services.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Fort Wayne
Wesley A. Malone, 80, of Fort Wayne, a member of First Baptist Church, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Heritage Park Health Care Center, Fort Wayne.
The Whitley County native was a World War II Army veteran.
He retired from Conrail in 1981 after 40 years of service.
He was a member of South Gate Lodge 731, American Legion Post 82 and the Embassy Foundation.
Surviving are his wife, Jessie E.; a son, Ted A. of New Castle; a daughter, Lesley Myers of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, 2323 Fairfield Ave. Memorials are to the church.

Gladys J. Kiltie, 94, of Fort Wayne, a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Life Care Center, Fort Wayne.
The homemaker was a native of Crookston, Minn.
Surviving are her son, Dean of Woodburn; a daughter, Arlene Whelan of Minneapolis; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ordean.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St., with calling one hour before services.

John B. Talarico, 80, of Fort Wayne, a truck salesman, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Byron Health Center, Fort Wayne.
The Kingmont, W.Va., native worked at Allen County Motors for 33 years before retiring in 1985.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Fort Miami VFW Post 10006.
Surviving are his wife, Jean F.; a son, John F.; a sister, Concetta Egts; brothers Tommaso and Joseph Pronesti, all of Fort Wayne, and Ralph of Rossano, Italy; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tom Mungovan Funeral Home, 2221 S. Calhoun St., with calling from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The Bee Branch, Ark., native retired from Royal Lace.
Surviving are her sons, Ben and Larry, both of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Karen Eastom of Fort Wayne; a brother, Melburn Payne of Little Rock, Ark.; a half sister, Lois Sutton of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin S., and a brother.

Donald J. Boitet, 78, of Fort Wayne, a World War II Air Force veteran, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, in Fort Wayne.
The Fort Wayne native was a serviceman for Hoslers Inc. for more than 35 years before retiring in 1986.
Surviving are his sons, David of Sarasota, Fla., and Michael of Fort Wayne; daughters Kathy Schimmoller of Harlan, Susan Blaugh of Fort Wayne, Tami Adang of Alpharetta, Ga., and Tina Boitet of Fremont; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith A. Marquardt.
A private memorial service will be held.
There is no calling. Burial will be at Highland Park cemetery.

Charles S. "Chuck" Rossman, 77, of New Haven, a member of United Methodist Church, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
The Lufkin, Texas, native retired in 1986 after 25 years as an electronic technician with Magnavox.
He also retired from the Navy in 1960 after 20 years of service and had been a veteran of World War II.
He was a lifelong member of American Legion Post 330, and a member of VFW Post 2457, Masonic Lodge 671 and Fleet Reserve Association.
Surviving are his wife, Edith; a son, Charles of Katy, Texas; daughters Charlotte Claire Smith of Manassas, Va., and Deanna L. Mesaros of Katy; a brother, Earl E. of Houston; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services are 11 p.m. Tuesday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana 930 E., New Haven, with calling from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A joint Legion and VFW calling will be held at 7:30 tonight.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by both posts at IOOF cemetery in New Haven.

Herbert R. Blombach, 81, of Fort Wayne, a World War II Navy veteran on the USS Matagorda, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
The Fort Wayne native retired from Hattersley and Sons Inc. in 1983. He was a member of American Legion Post 296, American Banjo Association, a 40-year member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 166, and a ham radio operator.
He played banjo with "Love Notes" and "Rhythm Aires."
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Marian F.; sons Michael O. and Raymond P., both of Fort Wayne; a sister, Alicejane Kaiser of Hilton Head, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour before services.
Calling will also be held from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Catholic cemetery.
