Fort Wayne — 1914-2001

Geraldine A. Merkler, 86, of Fort Wayne, a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Miller's Merry Manor, Fort Wayne.

The Allen County native worked at GTE until she retired in 1980.

Surviving are her sons Thomas C. and David G., both of Fort Wayne, and Patrick M. of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Adelaide Federspiel of Fort Wayne; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a husband, George; and sons Richard and Donald G.

Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, with calling one hour prior to services. Calling will also be held from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., where a vigil service will be at 4:30 p.m.

Burial will be at Catholic cemetery, Fort Wayne.

Memorials are to St. Mary's Soup Kitchen.

Leland S. Highman Sr.
15 October 2001

EVANSVILLE - Leland S. Highman Sr., 82, of Evansville died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at his home. The Tell City, Ind., native retired from Whirlpool after 33 years and was a Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He served in New Guinea and Australia and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed gardening, walking in the woods with his dogs, smoking his pipe and talking on citizens band radio.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Cecilia E. Stallings Highman; two sons, Leland S. Highman Jr. and Randall H. Highman, both of Evansville; a grandson; a granddaughter; and a brother, Lester Hershel Highman of Evansville.

Services are at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ziemer East Chapel Funeral Home in Evansville and at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Evansville. Burial will be in Park Lawn cemetery in Evansville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or Visiting Nurses Association Hospice.

Joseph Henry Tinsley Jr.

EVANSVILLE - Joseph Henry Tinsley Jr., 49, of Evansville died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Westpark Rehabilitation Center. The Owensboro native retired from Glenmore Distillery after 23 years of service and was a member of Pleasant Point Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Marine Corps veteran and enjoyed sports and yard sales.

Survivors include two son, Arlando Tinsley of Owensboro and Joseph D. Tinsley of Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, Monica Nelson of Indianapolis and Jereeta L. Tinsley of Owensboro; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth B. Tinsley of Jacksonville, Fla., and James A. Tinsley of Owensboro; two sisters, Joanne Tinsley Kendall and Rita Tinsley Moorman, both of Owensboro; several nephews and nieces; and several cousins.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Street Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Point cemetery in Pleasant Ridge. Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Young's Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Diabetes Association.

Johnny W. Baughn
1 December 2001

EVANSVILLE - Johnny W. Baughn, 67, of Evansville died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at his home from cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Patsy J. Baughn; a son, Samuel C. Combs; and a daughter, Teresa M. Cosby.

Survivors include six sons, Terry Ray Baughn of Hartford, Daniel Baughn, Michael R. Combs and Gray Combs, all of Evansville, Steven Combs of Mount Vernon, Ind., and William Combs of Seymour, Ind.; two daughters, Angila La'Dean White of Utica and Mary Ann Sherman of Evansville; 25 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Alexander West Chapel in Evansville. Burial will be in Alexander Memorial Park in Evansville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Deaconess Hospital or Ohio Valley Hospice.

Arthur "Art" A. Parnin
New Haven — 1920-2001

Arthur "Art" A. Parnin, 80, of New Haven, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland.

The Monroeville native retired in 1982 after 30 years as owner and operator of several area gas stations.

Surviving are his sons Stephen of Fort Wayne and Greg of Columbia City; a daughter, Deborah Stratton of Monroeville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith F.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana 930 E., New Haven, with calling one hour prior to services and also from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Monroeville Memorial cemetery.

Memorials are to American Heart Association.

Olive M. Barrett
Fort Wayne — 1902-2001

Olive M. Barrett, 98, of Fort Wayne, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Life Care Health Care, Fort Wayne.

The Aboite native was owner of Barrett Mail Service for 64 years.

Surviving are several nephews; and her friend, Trevor Frye of Fort Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward.

There are no services or calling. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. cemetery, New Haven.

Donald C. Reichert
Fort Wayne

Donald C. Reichert, 80, of Fort Wayne, a World War II Army staff sergeant with the 424th Infantry, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Miller's Merry Manor, Fort Wayne.

The York, Pa., native was a building contractor for more than 43 years in Fort Wayne.

He was a member of Westridge Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, MayBelle; a daughter, Nancy Ake of Wooster, Mass.; a son, Jeffrey A. of Winona Lake; a brother, Kenneth of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services are 11 a.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, with calling one hour prior to services and also from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Burial will be at Lindenwood cemetery.

Memorials are to Alzheimer's Disease Research.

Fort Wayne — 1930-2001

Christina Eloph, 70, of Fort Wayne, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at home.

The Allen County native had worked at Rogers Markets for 10 years before retiring in 1994.

Surviving are her husband, Cloyd; sons Kenneth Wayne and James A., both of Fort Wayne; sisters Yolley Member of New Haven and Nickolina Vondran of Fort Wayne; a brother, Louie Cutigni of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 Wells St., with calling one hour prior to services and also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at Lindenwood cemetery.

Memorials are to Cancer Services of Allen County.

Julia Reynolds Dreisbach
Fort Wayne — 1923-2001

Julia Reynolds Dreisbach, 94, of Fort Wayne, a member of First Presbyterian Church, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

The Bluffton native attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia, as well as Indiana University.

She was president of the Women's Reading Club; active in PTA; a Red Cross volunteer during World War II; and a founding member of Artists and Models Dance Group.

Surviving are her daughters Georgia Kegley of Charlottesville, Va., and Jerry Ludeke of Bakersfield, Calif.; a niece; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Wayne St., with calling to immediately follow services in McKay Hall at the church.

Memorials are to arts programs at the church or donor's choice.
