Nora E. Heffner, 77, of Fort Wayne, a retired seamstress, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Lutheran Hospital.
"An avid bowler, she was a former tournament champion and truly loved the sport of bowling."
The Hazard, Ky., native retired in 1989 from Bennett Manufacturing Co. in New Haven. Surviving are her husband, Jack L.; sons David, Roger L. and Ronnie Hamilton, all of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bobbie Hamilton. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road, with calling from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Williamsport cemetery, Poe. Memorials are to Cancer Services of Allen County.

Joy Carmichael Helm
Fort Wayne
Joy Carmichael Helm, 76, of Fort Wayne, an educator in Indiana public schools for 39 years, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana. She retired in 1986 from Huntington North High School and had taught in the Fort Wayne school system for 16 years and at Greenfield and North Vernon schools. She was a member of Art Education Association of Indiana, a member of Huntington County Classroom Teachers Retired Group and a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her husband, Donald; a sister, June Spear of Shelbyville; nieces Jan Benner of Rensselaer and Barbara Naughton of Palm Beach, Fla; and nephews Joe Spear of Crawfordsville and Donald P. Helm of Mesa, Ariz. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour before services. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Nina M. Mommer, 96, of Fort Wayne, a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Saint Anne Home.
The Branch County, Mich., native was a homemaker and a member of the church Rosary Society. Surviving are stepdaughters Deloris Ehle, Geraldine Thompson and Annrita McClain, all of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles. Prayer services at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel, 2114 S. Calhoun St., precede Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 416 W. Washington Blvd. Calling is from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday with a 7:30 p.m. rosary service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Catholic cemetery. Memorials are to Masses or Saint Anne Home.

Lena M. Hamilton, 80, of Fort Wayne died Friday, March 30, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital.
The Nashville, Tenn., native was a homemaker. Surviving are daughters Linda Hamilton of Richmond and Christene Hamilton, Frances Joyce and Louella Traxel, all of Fort Wayne; a sister, Margie Meadows of Old Hickory, Tenn.; a brother, Jeff Leaver of Tiffin, Ohio; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday at Marion National cemetery, 1700 E. 38th St., Marion.

Wayne B. Mooney, 72, of Fort Wayne, a retired truck parts salesman, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Parkview Hospital.
The Macon, Ga., native retired in 2000 from Northeastern Indiana Freightliner after 12 years of service. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a World War II and Korean War Army veteran. Surviving are daughters Madelyn C. Newman of Fort Wayne and Shirley A. Brackin of Ossian; a son, Bill D. of Fort Wayne; sisters Katherine Drew of Milwaukee and Opal Alexander of Macon, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, and seven brothers and sisters. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be at Lindenwood cemetery. Carolyn S. Bickford, 54, of Fort Wayne died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at home.
The Barbourville, Ky., native retired in 1999, had owned Rocky Mountain Janitorial and had managed Bi-Rite gas station in Rock Spring, Wyo.
Surviving are sons Michael Colley of Fort Wayne, Scott Colley of Auburn and Daniel Colley of Rock Springs, Wyo.; a daughter, Tracy Bickford of Fort Wayne; brothers Pete Honeycutt of Rock Springs and Steve Honeycutt of Fort Wayne; sisters Judy Payton of Fort Wayne and Linda Honeycutt of Rock Springs; and 10 grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Prairie Grove cemetery.

Charles "Chuck" A. Briggs

Charles "Chuck" A. Briggs, 64, of Fort Wayne, a retired sales manager, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at home.
"Beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was a PAL boxing coach and enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family."
The Coesse native retired in 1997 from Standard-Shank Heating & Air Conditioning and had worked at Coe Heating & Air Conditioning. He was a member of Waynedale Lodge 739 F&AM;, Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine Temple, American Legion Post 241 and a past patron of Wayne Chapter 600 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Joni; a daughter, Tammy Oetting of Hoagland; a son, Curt A. of Fort Wayne; a sister, Margaret Kauffman of Columbia City; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard K., and a sister, Kathryn Allen.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road, with calling from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday with a 7:15 p.m. Eastern Star service and a 7:30 p.m. Masonic service. Burial with military graveside services will be at Union Township cemetery, Coesse.

Donald E. Ormiston, 75, of Fort Wayne, a retired truck driver, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana.
The Fort Wayne native retired in 1983 from J.R. Trucking after 25 years of service. He was a World War II and Korean War Marine Corps veteran, a member of American Legion 296 and a lifetime member VFW Post 857.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy L.; sons Steve of Colorado, Donald Jr. of Fort Wayne and Bruce of Frankton; a stepson, John E. Sutherland of Fort Wayne; daughters Pam Young of Colorado and Sophia L. Paetz of Fort Wayne; a brother, John of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mary Griffith of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Tom Mungovan Funeral Home, 2221 S. Calhoun St., with calling from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens.

William Sedam, 71, of Fort Wayne, a native of Cincinnati, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital.
Surviving are a sister, Rosemary Sterbling of Cincinnati; and a nephew, John Schafer of Cincinnati.
There are no services or calling. Burial will be at Lindenwood cemetery.

Luther Lee Harman Jr., 44, of Fort Wayne, a native of Van Wert, Ohio, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at home.
"Enjoyed bowling, especially when participating in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl-A-Thon."
He was employed by National Serv-All.
Surviving are sisters Roberta Christlieb and Cheryl Booher, both of Fort Wayne; his stepfather, Richard Hilton of Fort Wayne; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Luther L. Sr., and his mother, Nancy Hilton.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 Wells St., with calling from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Lindenwood cemetery.
