Alice Sue Marsh
Fort Wayne
Alice Sue Marsh, 52, of Fort Wayne, who loved raising Irish setters, needlepoint and antiques, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Lutheran Hospital.
The Monterey native worked with Dr. Joseph Muhler's office as a registered nurse, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Order of Eastern Star Waynedale Chapter and had been a local resident for 30 years.
Surviving are her husband, Stewart A.; brothers James and Donald Zehner, both of Monterey; and a sister, Mary Penksa of Winamac.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Zehner, and her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial is 9 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1910 Hale Ave., with calling a half hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at D.O. McComb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Ave. Graveside services are 1 p.m. Monday at Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Alice Vivian Carney
Yoder — 1912-2000
Alice Vivian Carney, 88, of Yoder, a member of Tillman Road Church of God, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Wells Community Hospital in Bluffton.
The Bluffton native had worked at Kitco in Bluffton as a manufacturing inspector for 13 years and was a homemaker.
Surviving are a daughter, Martha A. Gordon of Griffin, Ga.; a son, Stanley A. of Yoder; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alva, and a brother, Harold D. William Abbott.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Elzey & Haggard Funeral Homes, Ossian Chapel, Ossian, with calling from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery, Craigville.

Kenneth C. Slater
Fort Wayne — 1924-2000
Kenneth C. Slater, 76, of Fort Wayne, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital.
"A loving husband for 53 years, father and grandfather, and he will be missed."
The Warren native worked for Habig Trucking as a truck driver for 25 years and was a member of American Legion Post 241.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma; daughters Sandra S. Kain, Cynthia L. and Cheryl D. Slater and Carolyn L. Worrell, all of Fort Wayne, and Shirley A. Vredenburg of Warren; a son, Steven W. of Fort Wayne; sisters Thelma Fuller of Arcola and Pauline Wells of Angola; a brother, Dale of Wabash; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 Wells St., with calling from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens.

Willie Jean Stewart, 56, of Fort Wayne, a native of Marion, Ala., died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at home.
"Her beautiful smile and pleasant personality brought joy to everyone around her."
She had worked at Mutz Corp. in Indianapolis.
Surviving are sons Joe D. and Edward J. Carlisle and Robert E. Patterson, all of Fort Wayne; her companion, Larry McDowell of Fort Wayne; sisters Shirley Foster of Fort Wayne and Juanita Roberson and Denitha Jones, both of Marion, Ala.; brothers Finest and Spencer Heard Jr., both of Indianapolis, Eddie Heard of Chicago and N.L. Heard of Marion, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Josephine Heard Suttle and Cornelia Vaughn.
Services are pending in Marion, Ala. Calling is from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Stuart Mortuary, 2201 N. Illinois, Indianapolis. Burial will be in Marion, Ala.

Mildred L. Springer, 93, of Fort Wayne, a Fort Wayne native, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at home.
She was a homemaker and wife of Edward C. Springer, founder of Springer Jewelers.
Surviving are a son, Jean of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Phyllis Lentz of Fishers; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Edward C., preceded her in death.
Private family services will be held. There is no calling. Burial will be in Lindenwood cemetery.

Robert "Bob" F. King, 68, of Fort Wayne, a retired truck driver, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at home.
The Payne, Ohio, native retired in 1990 from Overland Trucking after 12 years of service, was a member of American Legion Post 297 in Payne, Ohio, and VFW Post 2457 in New Haven.
Surviving are a son, Jeff of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Beverly Hensley of LaOtto; his mother, Edith King of New Haven; a brother, Leroy of Payne, Ohio; sisters Ruth Batt of Fort Wayne and Delores Baumle of Payne; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Shirley King.
Services are 5:30 p.m. Monday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana 930 E., New Haven, with calling from 3:30 p.m. until services. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery.

Daniel Gabriel "Gabe" Starks, 44, of Dayton, Ohio, a member of Corinthian Baptist Church, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at Franciscan Medical Center.
The Fort Wayne native worked for Project Cure as a counselor for 14 years and had resided in Dayton for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Debbie; sons Syndicate Malone of Memphis, Tenn., Daniel Starks of Dayton and Deshawn Belcher of Fort Wayne; daughters Twilette Marshall and Octavia and Ebony Starks, all of Dayton, and Nikkia Muff of Philadelphia; brothers Tom Knox and Clarence W. Starks Jr., both of Fort Wayne; sisters Martha Curry, Elaine Day, Alberta Duke and his twin, Deborah G. Starks, all of Fort Wayne; and six grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Greater Mount Ararat Baptist Church, 2111 Edsall Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling two hours before services.

She retired in 1987 and had worked for Morrill Motors and General Electric Co.

Her husband, Earl R., preceded her in death.

Verlin W. Blain Jr., 69, of Fort Wayne, a Navy veteran, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital.
"He was an avid golfer, coin collector and enjoyed traveling." The Fort Wayne native worked for Gordon Food Service and had retired from United Brokerage Corp. after 27 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 82, Eel River Masonic Lodge 510, 32 Degree Mason and North Highland Neighborhood Association. Surviving are his wife, Patt; sons Gregg of Huntertown and Rick and Larry, both of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mary of Fort Wayne; brothers Max of South Whitley and Carl of Harlan; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
