Thelma L. McAdams, 82
Thelma L. McAdams, 82, a native of Huntington County, died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the United Methodist Memorial Home at Warren, where she had resided since July.
She was a homemaker and was born Feb. 14, 1920, a daughter of Emery and Orpha Holmes Drabenstot. Her marriage in Ludington, Mich., on July 4, 1937 was to Wendell S. McAdams, who died Oct. 22, 2001.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Melton “Roy” (Mary) Meadows of Huntington; a brother, William Drabenstot of Port Ritchie, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Lee of Huntington and Mrs. Marlin (Elizabeth) Richardson of North Webster; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters are deceased.
Calling at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive in Huntington will be Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at the Star of Hope cemetery in Huntington County with Rev. Gus Hacker officiating.

Dr. Nevin Hiester, 82
Dr. Nevin Hiester, 82, son of Bluffton natives and furniture store owners O.E. and Alta (Markley) Hiester, died Sept. 15 in Saratoga, Calif.
He also was the nephew of Mrs. Joe Simmons, Mrs. Frank McDowell and Mrs. James Markley.
Dr. Hiester was educated at the University of Washington and at the University of California at Berkeley. He later joined the Stanford Research Institute, taught at Stanford and became SRI’s associate director of business planning, retiring in 1984.
He served also at mayor of Portola, Valley, Calif., and as a member of the Association of Bay Area Governments and the Bay Area Pollution Board.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey, two daughters, a son, a grandson, and a sister, Harriett Heckman, now a resident of Port Angeles, Wash.

Mima Louise Siegel, 87
A native of Bluffton, Mima Louise Siegel, 87, of Fremont died Monday, Sept. 23, at Northern Lakes Nursing Center at Angola.
Mrs. Siegel was homemaker and former co-owner of Siegel’s Bait Store in Fremont from 1941 to 1984. Her husband, Clarence, died in 1984.
Surviving are a son, Leroy of Fremont; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Service at 1 p.m. Thursday will be at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, where calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Jamestown cemetery at Fremont.

Cora Maxine Cook, 77
Cora Maxine Cook, 77, of Decatur died at 10:25 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Adams County Memorial Hospital in Decatur following an extended illness.
Mrs. Cook, in addition to working at the Novelty Shop in Bluffton, was a nurse’s aide at Adams County Memorial Hospital in Decatur and Caylor-Nickel Clinic and Wells County Hospital in Bluffton.
She was born in Bluffton Jan. 5, 1925 to Harry and Mary Letha Archbold Faus. Her marriage at Decatur on Oct. 15, 1949 was to Albert C. Cook, who died Dec. 25, 1988. She was a member of the United Brethren in Christ Church in Decatur.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia W. Weldy and Shirley A. Shaffer, both of Decatur; five sisters, Pauline Ripple, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Graham, and Mrs. Calvin (Marie) Wyatt, all of Bluffton, Mrs. Russell (Janet) Ripple of Ossian, and Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Coppess of Monroe; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Eight brothers are deceased.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Friday will be at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, where visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Rev. James Sturgeon will officiate at rites and burial will be in Ray cemetery in rural Monroe.

James Dean Fisher, 30
James Dean Fisher, 30, of Union City, Ohio, was injured fatally in an auto accident Monday evening, Sep.t 23, south of Fort Recovery, Ohio.
Mr. Fisher, a 1990 graduate of Jay County High School at Portland and a former resident of Redkey, had been employed for seven months with Pete Shawver Construction and four years previously with Cleveland Construction in Toledo, Ohio.
He was born in Portland May 5, 1972, a son of Stephen H. and Caroline S. Denney Fisher, who survive and reside at Redkey. The father is employed at Pretzels, Inc. in Bluffton.
Surviving also are a daughter, Taylor Marie Hut of Union City, Ohio; three brothers, Matt D. of Portland, Dean Douglas of Hartford City and Tony D. of Dunkirk; a sister, Mrs. Byron (Christian D.) Alberson of Portland; his paternal grandparents, Boyce and Carol Sharp of Portland; his maternal grandfather, Robert C. Denney of Albany; five nephews; and five nieces.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson & Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Bothast officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery at Redkey.
Calling hours at the funeral chapel are today from 2 to 8 p.m.

Helen L. Seaman, 77
Mother of Mickey D. Seaman of Markle, Helen L. Seaman, 77, of Decatur, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Decatur.
She was born in Wells County Nov. 14, 1924 to Donald F. and Ruby M. Burgess Fisher. Her marriage on Nov. 30, 1946 was to Everett H. “Sliver” Seaman, who died Oct. 23, 1994.
Surviving, in addition to the son at Markle, are a daughter, Barbara L. Seaman of Decatur; two brothers, Max L. Fisher of Fort Wayne and Bill D. Fisher of Markle; and a sister, Mrs. Karl (Bonnie) Denly of Audubon, Minn.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home in Decatur with Rev. Josh Merold officiating. Burial will be in Hoverstock cemetery at Zanesville.
Visitation hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday for one hour prior to services.

Betty Loraine Rupp, 75
Betty Loraine Rupp, 75, of Fort Wayne, a sister of Audrey Butcher of Ossian, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, at her residence.
Mrs. Rupp was retired from General Electric Co. in Fort Wayne after 17 years.
She was born Feb. 27, 1927 in Fort Wayne to William and Emma Field Perry. A first marriage was to Joseph Sovine, who died in 1959; her second marriage was to Kenneth F. Rupp, who survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband and the sister in Ossian, are two sons, Donald E. Sovine and Dr. Carl W. Sovine, both of Fort Wayne; four other sisters, Joan Dunfee, Gloria Uptgraft and Barbara Sembroski, all of Fort Wayne, and Rose Swain of Roanoke; two brothers, Bill Perry and George Perry, both of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 Saint Joe Rd., Fort Wayne, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday with Rev. Todd W. Sovine officiating. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens.

Esther R. Carnall, 93
A teacher in Wells County schools for more than two decades, Esther R. Carnall, 93, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Heritage of Huntington. She had been ill three weeks.
Mrs. Carnall was a graduate in 1926 of Bluffton High School and a graduate in 1932 of Ball State University. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Venice, Fla., and an Associate Tri Kappa.
She taught school for 22 years, retiring in 1960, at Poplar Grove, Ossian and Rockcreek elementary schools, all in Wells County.
Her late husband, Don, was in the insurance and abstract business in Bluffton for more than 40 years.
She was born near Poneto, Sept. 22, 1909, a daughter of George F. and May Steube Roof. Her marriage to Don L. Carnall, who died July 11, 1972, took place in Bluffton on Oct. 18, 1933.
Surviving are a son, Ned R. Carnall of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. Peter (Betsy) C. Stine of Danvers, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Carnall was preceded in death by four brothers, Glen, Rex, Garth and Garyl “Joe” Roof, and three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Buckner, Mrs. Howard (Mary) Smith and Mrs. Clive (Dorothy) Markley.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Peter Stine officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery at Bluffton.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Ralph F. Kiefer, 94
Ralph F. Kiefer, 94, who retired in 1973 after 13 years in the maintenance department of Bluffton High School, died at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Christian Care Retirement Center. He had been in failing health the past year.
Mr. Kiefer, a graduate of Murray School, worked for several years at the Estey Piano factory in Bluffton and then worked 18 years at Dunbar Furniture in Berne before joining the Bluffton High School maintenance department.
He was born in Adams County Oct. 3, 1907, a son of Fred and Myrtle Vaughn Kiefer. His marriage at Bluffton on April 19, 1930, was to Madelia Little, who died Jan. 30, 1995.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Patricia) Moser and Mrs. Huston (Betty) Watters, both of Bluffton; a brother, Woodrow Kiefer of Bluffton; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Three sisters and four brothers are deceased.
Services at 2 p.m. Saturday will be at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home, where calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Pastor Randy Rossman will officiate at services and burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery at Bluffton.

Robert T. Gahman, 89
Born in Craigville in Wells County, Robert T. Gahman, 89, died Monday, Sept. 23, at Courtland Health & Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Gahman was retired from General Electric Co. His wife, H. Enid, died in 1982.
Surviving are a son, Robert L. of Fort Wayne; a brother, Arthur of Craigville; two sisters, Vera Montgomery of South Bend and Alice Wilkerson of Clermont; and three grandchildren.
Services at 11 a.m. Saturday will be at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home Wayne Street Chapel, 420 West Wayne St., with calling for one hour before services. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens.

Lillian L. Heckert, 79
Lillian L. Heckert, 79, of Decatur died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Woodcrest Nursing Center in Decatur.
A homemaker, Mrs. Heckert attended Salem United Methodist Church.
She was born in Burr Oak, Mich., June 7, 1923, a daughter of John F. and Grace M. Putman Lintemoot. Her marriage on Sept. 3, 1940 in Van Wert County, Ohio, was to James A. Heckert, who died in December 1976.
Surviving are six sons, Gary D. Heckert of Decatur, David J. and Timothy A. Heckert, both of Bluffton, Steven M. Heckert of Keystone, Grover W. Heckert of Monroe, and Donald J. Chaffee of Bradenton, Fla.; three daughters, Karen S. Drake and Tamara S. Ley, both of Decatur, and Mrs. David (Faye A.) Krick of Hoagland; 31 grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Jane L. Baumgartner, a son, Robert Harold Heckert, three brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Services at 4 p.m. Saturday will be at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, where visitation hours are today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12 noon until time for services.
A graveside committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn cemetery in Ohio City, Ohio.
