Robert J. Abernathy, 53
Formerly of Hartford City, Robert J. “Abby” Abernathy, 53, of Milford, died at 3:25 p.m. Sunday at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw.
He had lived in Hartford City most of his lifetime prior to moving to Milford 10 years ago.
Mr. Abernathy was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and Eagles Lodge at Syracuse. He was a graduate of Hartford City High School.
He was born at Hartford City May 11, 1948 to William Carl and Vera L. Doublin Abernathy.
Surviving are two sons, Robert J. Abernathy Jr. of Hartford City and Michael P. Robinson of Syracuse; two daughters, Mrs. Greg (Angie) Kuczkowski of Granby, Colo., and Lacey M. Robinson of New Paris; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Gilbert of Montpelier and Betty Niverson of Lynden, Wash.; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glancy Funeral Homes Walker Chapel in Montpelier, where calling hours are today from 4 to 8 p.m.
Rev. Frank Rodgers will officiate at services and burial will be in Gardens of Memory at Muncie.

Colleen Faye Smith, 66
Colleen Faye Smith, 66, of Berne, died at 12:56 a.m. Tuesday at Adams County Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
She worked for 15 years at the service desk at Kohl’s Department Store in Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Missionary Church in Berne.
She was born in Adams County Aug. 10, 1934 to Robert U. and Emma Rose Sprunger Liechty. Her marriage on June 25, 1960 was to Harry V. Smith, who survives.
Others survivors are a son, Matthew S. of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Mrs. David (Lori) Gerdes and Mrs. Adam (Amy Jo) Bertsch, both of Berne, and Mrs. Bradley (Debra) Gerber of Decatur; two sisters, Anna A. Roop and Berneta L. Lehman, both of Berne; three brothers, Melvin E. and Loren L. Liechty, both of Berne, and Rev. Robert Liechty Jr. of Lima, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Three brothers and a sister are deceased.
Services at 2 p.m. Friday will be at Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home in Decatur, where visitation hours will be Thursday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the MRE cemetery at Berne. Memorials to the family.

Velma L. Lepper, 86
Velma L. Lepper, 86 of Fort Wayne, who was born in Ossian, died Monday at Dupont Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was a self-employed seamstress specializing in custom drapery.
Surviving are two sons, Lowell of Fort Wayne and Darrell of Battle Creek, Mich.; and a step-grandchild.
Her husband, Delmar H., preceded her in death.
Services at 2 p.m. Friday will be at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and for one hour Friday prior to services. Memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Mildred A. Welch, 89
Funeral services for Mildred A. Welch, 89, of Hartford City, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glancy Funeral Homes Walker Chapel in Montpelier.
Mrs. Welch died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Blackford County Hospital in Hartford City.
Calling hours at the funeral chapel are today from 4 to 8 p.m.
Mrs. Welch was a member of the Pleasantdale United Methodist Church and its Ladies Aid and a graduate of Goodboo School in Blackford County.
She was born in Blackford County Dec. 10, 1911 to Scott and Margaret Cale Shannon. Her marriage on June 9, 1937 was to Ney E. Welch, who died Nov. 1, 1980.
Surviving are a son, Terry Welch of Hartford City; a sister, Helen Buckland of Warren; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A sister is deceased.
Rev. Robert Davis will officiate at services and burial will be in Hartford City cemetery.

Colleen J. Beghtel, 73
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Roanoke for Colleen J. Beghtel, 73, who died Tuesday, Sept. 25, at her home in Roanoke.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Roanoke Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Glenwood cemetery at Roanoke.
Born in Hartford City, Mrs. Beghtel retired from Wayne Feeds in Fort Wayne. She was a past president of American Legion Post 160 Auxiliary at Roanoke.
Surviving are her husband, George; a sister, Joyce Mickley Worster of Warren; and her parents, Ruth Schmidt and Harry Schmidt, both of Warren.

Patricia L. Sutherby, 64
Patricia L. Sutherby, 64, of rural Warren, died at 10:49 a.m. Saturday, Sept 29, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
A homemaker, she was the widow of David Sutherby, who died this past July 14. She had resided in the area since her marriage in 1963.
Mrs. Sutherby was a member of the Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Dearborn, Mich.
She was born at Angola March 13, 1937 to Paul and Pauline Peters Homen. Her marriage to David Sutherby took place Nov. 26, 1963 in Lincoln Park, Ill.
Mrs. Sutherby is survived by two sons, David Beers of Bluffton and Lance R. Sutherby of Warren; four daughters, Mrs. Terry (Roxanne) Christianson of Bluffton, Sherry Lou Sutherby of Huntington, Mrs. Don (Sherrie) Motes of Charksville, Tenn., and Crystal Henderson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Sue Jenkins of Fort Wayne; a brother, Richard P. Homen of Oakview, Calif; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton with Rev. Scott Meier officiating and burial will be in Six Mile cemetery. Visitation hours at the funeral chapel are today from 2 to 8 p.m.

Myrl L. Fyson, 95
Myrl L. Fyson, 95, in ill health the past five weeks, died at 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at her rural Bluffton residence.
She was a clerk at the former Burger Milk Store and was a member of the Prairie Church and a past president of the USFW Women’s Organization.
Born in Huntington County, she had resided in Wells County since 1941.
She was born Dec. 10, 1905 to Joseph D. and Arminda M. Smith Creviston. Her marriage at Huntington on Feb. 17, 1925 was to Ralph K. Fyson, who died April 20, 1986.
Surviving are two grandsons, David Mason of Fort Wayne and Randy Mason of Bluffton; two granddaughters, Mrs. Marvin (Joyce) Crull of Poneto and Mrs. Cary (Judy) Stewart of Bluffton; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Larry (Betty) Arnold of Bluffton; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A son, Carl, died in 1981. She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home with Pastor Lenny Springer officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday for one hour prior to services.

Harmon D. Wiley, 85
Harmon D. Wiley, 85, a retired bank manager, died at 5:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the United Methodist Home in Warren.
He was a manager at Merchants National Bank Indianapolis before retiring in 1981. After retirement, he worked for 10 years in real estate for Meid Compton in Indianapolis.
Mr. Wiley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from April 10, 1942 to Nov. 8, 1945.
He was a graduate of Warren High School and Indiana University and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Warren and American Legion Post 34 in Indianapolis.
He also enjoyed flying a Piper-Tri Pacer and a Mooney aircraft.
Mr. Wiley was born in Huntington County March 11, 1916 to Fred R. and Ada Day Wiley. His marriage on Jan. 1, 1945 at Amboy was to Joan Lamb, who survives at Warren.
Additional survivors are a son, Rex Wiley of Indianapolis; a sister, Jeri Daugherty of Marion; a brother, Richard Wiley of El Segundo, Calif.; and a granddaughter. A sister and four brothers are deceased.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel, in Warren, with Rev. John Bellante officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery at Warren.
Calling hours at the funeral chapel will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials to the Eye Bank of Indianapolis.

William S. Bourne, 59
William S. Bourne, 59, who formerly worked for the Hickory Hills Golf Course in Bluffton, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 29, at his rural Pennville residence following a long illness.
He was a 1959 graduate of Pennville High School and a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church and Sons of the American Legion, both in Hartford City, and the Moose Lodge in Portland.
Mr. Bourne had lived in Hartford City from 1995 to 1998 before moving to the Pennville area.
He was born in Portland Sept. 30, 1941, the son of Sanford and Cora Denney Bourne. His marriage on Dec. 17, 1995 was to Nancy L. Zelonis, who survives.
Additional survivors are his parents, who reside in rural Pennville; a son, Tait Byrd of Bluffton; two daughters, Mrs. Tim (Melanie) Illig of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Jerry (Maria) Coleman of Portland; a sister, Mrs. Jim (Linda L.) Crockett of St. Louis, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
Services at the Pennville Chapel of Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Dan Porter officiating. Burial will be in Brookside cemetery at Montpelier.
Calling hours are today from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Leslie J. ‘Bud’ Cargar, 86
A retired Rockcreek Township, Wells County, farmer, Leslie J. “Bud” Cargar, 86, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the home of a daughter in Marion following an extended illness.
Mr. Cargar, who formerly resided in Huntington, worked for many years at Caswell-Runyon and for Memcor, both in Huntington.
He was a 1932 graduate of Rockcreek High School in Wells County and attended both the Trinity United Methodist Church in Marion and the Westview Wesleyan Church in Jonesboro.
He was born Nov. 11, 1914 in Wells County, a son of Jesse R. and Elnora Burley Cargar. A first marriage on June 24, 1938 at Ludlow Falls, Ohio, was to Helen I. Eubank, who died June 7, 1969; his second marriage in Liberty Center on June 20, 1970 was to Edith Stickler, whose death occurred Sept. 9, 2000.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Cheryl) Edris of Marion; a stepson, Larry Smith of Mooresville, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Rev. Charles McCallum and Rev. Ermal Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Sparks cemetery in Wells County.
Visitation hours at the funeral chapel are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials to the Grant County Cancer Society.
