Jacob Arnold, 85
Retired farmer, factory worker and school bus driver, Jacob Arnold, 85, died at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Memorial Home at Warren.
Mr. Arnold retired on Jan. 6, 1976 from Wabash Magnetic. He also was a school bus driver for Huntington County schools, janitor at Jefferson Township School and a farmer in Jefferson Township, Huntington County.
He was a former president of the Big Lake Association at Albion. He lived for 18 years at Big Lake in Noble County.
Mr. Arnold was a member of the Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene at Warren and had attended Jefferson Township High School.
He was born in Warren March 25, 1916 to Oscar and Mertie Rowe Arnold. His marriage at Dillman in Wells County took place on Nov. 6, 1937 to Mary Daugherty, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons, Jerry of Pelham, N.C., and Harold and Gerald, both of Huntington; a sister, Mary Renbarger of Warren; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A son, Harry D., three sisters, one grandchild and one great-grandchild are deceased.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday will be at the United Methodist Memorial Home with Rev. John Pattison officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery at Warren.
Calling hours at the Memorial Home will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Rev. Ralph M. Westafer, 79
Rev. Ralph M. Westafer, 79, a pastor for 25 years and who served a church in Bluffton, died at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
In addition to a pastorate in Bluffton, Rev. Westafer served churches in Silver Lake, Sims, Argos, Gas City and Bippus. He also was an interim pastor for churches in Arizona, California, Michigan and Indiana. For 15 years he farmed in Lancaster Township in Huntington County.
He was a member of the Etna Avenue Wesleyan Church in Huntington, VFW Post 2689, American Legion Post 7 and Lions Club in Huntington and was a volunteer at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 8, 1921 in Huntington to Ora Ellsworth and Zoe Elizabeth Richards Westafer. His marriage on Jan. 18, 1945 at Goblesville, Ind., was to Marguerite H. Myers, who survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, William K. of Marion, and Robert J. of West Linn, Oreg.; two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Cynthia) Davis of Hudsonville, Mich., and Mrs. Jay (Debra) Kern of Fort Washington, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Carl (Madalyn) Nosker of North Manchester; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Etna Avenue Wesleyan Church in Huntington with Rev. Robert Hanson and Rev. Al Soultz officiating. Interment will be in Beech Grove cemetery in Huntington County.
Visitation hours at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., will be Friday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Saturday for one hour prior to services.

Infant Rayonah Jo Ward
Infant Rayonah Jo Ward, daughter of Tracy Lee Ward and Erica Nicole Stucker, both of Zanesville, died Tuesday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Surviving also are the infant’s grandparents, Walter Jr. and Lolly Ward of Roanoke, and Charles and Marilyn Stucker of Andrews, and the great-grandparents, Walter Sr. and Mary Ward of Roanoke, and Lawrence and Ruth Kissell of Columbia City.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sparks cemetery at Markle. There will be no calling.
Memorials to Arcola United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Fort Wayne.

George J. Parker, 84
Father of Shenna M. “Mike” Hamilton of Poneto, George J. Parker, 84, died Wednesday at his home at Van Buren.
He was born in Indianapolis and formerly resided at Hartford City.
He was a retired self-employed roofer and also worked with Monte McDermit.
Mr. Parker was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving, in addition to the daughter at Poneto, are two sons, George M. “Montie” of Fort Smith, Ark., and Steven Jae of Hackett, Ark; another daughter, LaDonna N. Brasuell of Van Buren, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 20 step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; a brother and a sister.
His wife, LaDonna, died in 1970 and a daughter also is deceased.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Keplinger Funeral Home in Hartford City, where calling hours will be Friday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday for two hours prior to services.
Burial will be in Hartford City cemetery.

Nettie Mae Tanner, 86
Nettie Mae Tanner, 86, of Indiana Street in Huntington died Thursday at the home of a daughter in South Whitley. Mrs. Tanner was a nurses aide at the Roanoke Nursing Home for over 10 years.
She attended the Pentecostal Church of God in Columbia City.
Born May 17, 1915, in Sabinsville, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of Warren Elijah and Anna Mae Benn Rhodes. Her marriage was on Dec. 31, 1931, in Belmont, N. Y., to Harry C. Tanner, who preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1976.
Surviving are three sons, Clifford Tanner of Fort Wayne, Larry Tanner of Gravel Switch, Kentucky, and Gerald Tanner of Huntington; three daughters, Mrs. Norbert (Betty) Sterling of Huntington, Mrs. Robert (Vivian) Payne of South Whitley, and Opal Snyder of Huntington; four sisters, Mildred Slocum of Elkland, Pa., Virginia Haynes of Eldred, Pa., Bertha Hancock of Genesee, Pa., and Phyllis McCaslin of Mills, Pa.; a brother, Harry Rhodes of Goshen; 29 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Two brothers, a son, 2 grandchildren and a great-grandchild preceded her in death.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel. Services will follow at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, with Deaconess Karen Kosberg officiating. Interment will be at the Glenwood cemetery in Roanoke.

Rolland E. Stroup, 79
A retired school teacher and former Wells County resident, Rolland E. Stroup, 79, of Winter Garden, Fla., died at 2:20 p.m. Friday at Health Central Medical Center in Orlando, Fla.
He and his family had resided in Florida since 1972, moving from Anderson, where he lived from 1951 to 1958. Mr. Stroup taught in Anderson as well as at Fort Wayne and at Royerton in Delaware County. He also was employed as a loan officer with the Federal Home Administration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Mr. Stroup was a 1940 graduate of Jackson High School in Wells County and a 1945 graduate of Purdue University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge at Hartford City.
He was born at Upland Feb. 6, 1922 to James Henry and Cora Mae Glancy Stroup. His marriage in Jackson Township on Feb. 3, 1940 was to N. Claudine Gilbert, who survives.
Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Fritz (Kathleen) Brosien of North Canton, Ohio; a son, Rolland E. Jr. of Ellicott City, Md.; three sisters, Geraldine Miller and Jacqueline Huffman, both of Warren, and Mrs. Jack (Mary) Witham of Roscoe, Ill.; two brothers, Richard of Swayzee and Jon of Hartford City; and five grandchildren. A sister is deceased.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday will be at Glancy Funeral Homes - H Brown & Son Chapel in Warren, where calling will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in IOOF cemetery at Montpelier.

Ernest D. Cole, 68
Ernest D. Cole, 68, of Spiceland, a former Wells County resident, died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.
Mr. Cole retired in 1979 after 20 years at Franklin Electric Co. in Bluffton.
He was a veteran of U.S. Army service during the Korean War and was a member of Bluffton American Legion Post 111. He had attended Greenfield High School.
He was born in Greenfield Aug. 13, 1932, a son of Samuel and Margaret Louise Cole. His marriage on June 21, 1961 at South Bend was to Mary Katherine Repgloe, who died Aug. 10, 1974.
Mr. Cole is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Freddie (Sherry) James of Warren, Mrs. Victor (Debra Sue) Moore of Daleville and Mrs. Stephen (Margaret Irene) Mize of Greenfield; a son, Dale Eugene of Apache Junction, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, Elmer of Spiceland, Joseph of Greenfield and Thomas of Maxwell, and five sisters, Maxine Merchant and Annabelle Randol, both of Montpelier, Betty Ferguson of Florida, Mary Walls of Warren Lakes and Edna Martin of Indianapolis. Two brothers and a sister are deceased.
A service and burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Historic Woodlawn cemetery at Montpelier, where visitation will be for one-half hour prior to the service.Memorials to the family.

Max E. Blaugh, 78
A resident of Warren, Max E. Blaugh, 78, died at 10:55 p.m. Friday at Markle Health Care.
He and his wife resided at Lake Tippecanoe for 20 years, from 1980 to 2000.
Mr. Blaugh retired from Dana Corporation in Syracuse after serving 25 years at the company’s Fort Wayne location.
He was a 1940 graduate of Roanoke High School and was a member of the United Methodist Church at North Webster, Masonic Lodge 483 at Huntington and the Scottish Rite at Fort Wayne.
He was born in Jackson Township, Huntington County, July 12, 1922 to Arthur and Gladys Simon Blaugh. His marriage on Aug. 27, 1949 at Mt. Etna was to Lois Fickle, who survives.
Mr. Blaugh was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from Oct. 14, 1942 to Feb. 24, 1946.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Susan) McKinley of Bluffton, Ohio, and Mrs. Dale (Jean) Kem of Oak Hill, Va.; two sons, David of Naperville, Ill., and James of Vicenza, Italy; a sister, Vida Yant of Columbia, Mo.; and five grandchildren. A brother and a sister are deceased.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glancy Funeral Homes - H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren with Rev. Steve Renfrow officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster cemetery in Huntington County.
Visitation hours at the funeral chapel are today from 2 to 8 p.m.

Donald A. Stout, 86
A retired farmer, Donald A. Stout, 86, formerly of rural Portland, died early Saturday morning at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie following a brief illness.
Born in Jay County, he farmed in Greene Township and had attended the Center United Methodist Church west of Portland.
He was born Sept. 3, 1914, a son of Samuel and Anna Kimmel Stout. His marriage on Nov. 11, 1936 was to Berniece D. Knoelke, who died Sept. 14, 1991.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. LeRoy (Elaine) Harshman of Pennville; a son, Lester “LD” Stout of Portland; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A son, Sam, died in 1959.
Services at 10 a.m. Tuesday will be at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Robert Myers officiating. Burial will be in Green Park cemetery at Portland.
Calling hours are today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Florence Gayle Helmrich, 62
Florence Gayle Helmrich, 62, of Decatur, died Sunday at her home at 1109 Madison St.
She was a homemaker and member of the Salem United Church of Christ at Magley.
She was born May 12, 1939 at Redbird, Ky., to Bev and Edna Ward Howard. Her marriage on Dec. 20, 1958 was to David Helmrich, who survives.
Additional survivors are two sons, Glen A. of Fort Wayne and Troy D. of Willshire, Ohio; two daughters, Laura L. Helmrich of Ohio City, Ohio, and Stefani L. Helmrich of Decatur; two brothers, Bob Howard of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lester Howard of Fort Wayne; five sisters, Mrs. David (Virginia) Elliott of Newport News, Va., Mrs. Ellis (Shirley) Lee of Colorado City, Colo., Mrs. Ora (Gladys) Saylor of Fort Wayne, Joyce Little of Detroit and Mrs. Lonnie (Fran) Turner of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A brother and a sister are deceased.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Salem United Church of Christ and burial will be in Salem cemetery at Magley.
Visitation hours at the Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home in Decatur will be Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Thursday for one hour prior to services.
