Beulah N. Murray, 73
Mother of Frederica DeBolt of Poneto, Beulah N. Murray, 73, of Lake City, Mich., died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac, Mich. She was born in Redkey, Ind., June 25, 1927 to Carl Russell and Mamie Joseph.
Surviving, in addition to the daughter at Poneto, are two sons, Russell Earl Murray of Decatur and Timothy Murray of Lake City; a sister, Bertha Reber of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Young Funeral Home in Lake City with Rev. Edrye Eastman Sealey officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer cemetery. Visitation hours are today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials to donor’s choice.

Walter ‘Bud’ Schindler, 85
Retired Indiana State Police detective and former Bluffton insurance agent, Walter “Bud” Schindler, 85, of Delaware, Ohio, died at 11:52 a.m. Thursday at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware.
Mr. Schindler was a former resident of Berne and served from 1942 to 1966 as a state trooper and subsequently as a state police detective. After retirement from the law enforcement agency, he became engaged as an insurance representative with the Business Men’s Assurance office in Bluffton. He was a member of the First Missionary Church at Berne.
He was born in Adams County Dec. 13, 1915 to Amos and Sarah Winteregg Schindler. His wife, Geraldine “Gerri, ” to whom he was married
on Nov. 23, 1938, died in 1995.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Don (Anita) Dyck of Delaware, Ohio, and Mrs. Steve (Nan) Habegger of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Edith Crumpton of Ridgeway, S.C.; a brother, Clarence Schindler of Statesville, N.C.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Services at 2 p.m. Sunday will be at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne with Rev. Robert Dye officiating. Burial will be in MRE cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. and Sunday for one hour prior to services. Memorials to Miracle Hill Ministries in Greenville, S.C.

Fred C. Nahrwold, 68
Fred C. Nahrwold, 68, rural Ossian and formerly of the Bluffton area, died Saturday at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
He retired the same year, in 1997, both from the farming occupation and also as a printer for Flashbox Co. in Fort Wayne.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Nahrwold was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church at Ossian, American Legion Post 111 at Bluffton, Wheels of Yesteryear and Maumee Valley Steam and Gas Engines of New Haven.
He was born in New Haven Oct. 2, 1932 to Elmer and Bertha Schmidt Nahrwold. His marriage in rural Ossian on April 5, 1953 was to Norma P. Werling, who survives.
Surviving also are two sons, Dr. David F. of Woodburn and Curtis F. of Markle; three daughters, Rhonda S. Rasdorf of Ossian, Susan N. Laughbaum of Wadesville and Carol Sue Nahrwold of Cincinnati; a student exchange daughter, Carla Ferretti-Hoover of Roanoke; three brothers, James and Larry, both of New Haven, and Elmer Jr. of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. A brother is deceased.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Lutheran Church at Ossian with Rev. Paul Doehrmann officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Lutheran cemetery in rural Ossian. A military graveside service will be provided by Bluffton American Legion Post 111.
Visitation hours at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and at the church Wednesday for one hour prior to services.

Marvin J. Denney, 83
A former Ossian resident, Marvin J. Denney, 83, died Friday at Miller’s Merry Manor in Huntington.
He was a painter for Bowser Pump Co. in Fort Wayne for 20 years and was a machinist at Fort Wayne General Electric for 18 years, retiring in 1981.
Mr. Denney, who had resided also in Fort Wayne and Huntington, was born in Allen County Feb. 16, 1918 to Roscoe and Stella Mutton Denney. His marriage at Huntington on Jan. 22, 1944 was to Betty L. LaVine, who died Jan. 5, 1987.
He was a member of the Ossian United Methodist Church and Harmony Lodge 19 of the IOOF at Fort Wayne and enjoyed wood carving and auto racing.
Surviving are a son, Allen L. of Huntington; two brothers, Clifford of California and Walt of Fort Wayne; four sisters, Mildred Bear of Mt. Etna, Georgina Roth of Bluffton, Bernice Denney of Fort Wayne and Eileen Reddin of Florida; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A brother and a companion, Faye Park, are deceased.
Services were to be at 2 p.m. today at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian with Rev. Michael Heinbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn cemetery at Ossian. Visitation hours were today prior to the service.
Harmony IOOF Lodge performed a memorial service today at noon.
Memorials to the building fund of the Ossian United Methodist Church.

Paul E. Jones, 76
Paul E. Jones, 76, of Ossian, died Saturday at Ossian Health Care Center.
He was employed for 35 years at General Motors Co. and was a veteran of U.S. Army service during World War II.
Mr. Jones was born March 23, 1923 in Wells County. He never married

Surviving are a sister, Charlotte Allen of Fort Wayne; two nephews, Doyle Allen and Edwin
Allen, both of Fort Wayne; and a niece, Gloria DeMay of Florida.
Services at 2 p.m. Tuesday will be at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery at Warren. There will be no visitation hours.

Waneta M. Hoover, 74
Sister of Arlene McCune of Uniondale, Waneta M. Hoover, 74, of Huntington, died Friday at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born on Wabash County, she retired in 1989 as a cafeteria manager from Horace Mann School in Huntington after 21 years.
In addition to the sister at Uniondale, she is survived by her husband, Jack; a daughter, Beth Epperson of Andrews; a son, Richard “Rick” of Fort Wayne; three other sisters, Lucille Wolter, Maxine Weaver and Betty McCune, all of Huntington; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services were held at 2 p.m. today at Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Services in Huntington, with calling for one hour prior to services.
Burial was to be in Mount Hope cemetery at Huntington. Memorials to the family.

Paul V. Stucky, 77
Paul V. Stucky, 77, of Monroe, died Saturday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was currently employed at Stucky Furniture in Monroe.
Mr. Stucky was a native of Adams County and a veteran of U.S. Navy service during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Janette E.; two daughters, Joan Shivleey of Ossian and Sandra Krill of Fort Wayne; a son, Lynn C. of Hoagland; a brother, Harry of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mildred Neuenschwander of Virginia; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday will be at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne, where calling hours are today from 3 to 8 p.m. and for one hour Tuesday prior to services

Fred C. Foudy, 85
Fred C. Foudy, 85, of Zanesville, died at 1:45 a.m. today at the Markle Medical Center. He retired in 1979 as an inspector for the Dana Corporation, Spicer Axle Division after an employment of 32 years.
Mr. Foudy was a 1935 graduate of Lancaster High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations. He attended the East State Street Church of God.
He was born in Lancaster Township, Huntington County, April 14, 1915 to Michael and Laura Smith Foudy. His marriage at Warren on Oct. 18, 1941 was to Naomi R. Yount, who survives.
Surviving also are two daughters, Mrs. William (Patricia) Quickery of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Thomas (Judy) Risk of Roanoke; two sisters, Mary Heitz of Wabash and Alice Foudy of Huntington; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister are deceased.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Rev. Steven Stull officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery at Warren.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to services.

Hazel G. Grove, 96
Hazel G. Grove, 96, formerly of 1342 West South St. in Bluffton, died at 12:35 a.m. today at Meadowvale Care Center, where she had been a resident four years and in failing health that period of time.
She retired after several years as an employee in the laundry department of Wells Community Hospital. She was an active member of the Epworth United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Grove was born in Marion April 24, 1904 to Charles A. and Mary M. Goldner Schorey. Her marriage at Geneva on April 20, 1924 was to William D. Grove Sr., who died Nov. 10, 1959.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Duncan (Janice) White of rural Bluffton; two brothers, Charles Schorey of Happy Jack, Ariz., and Lorin Schorey of Macon, Ill.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A son, William D. Jr., died in 1998, and four brothers and a sister also are deceased.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Thursday will be at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home, where calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Rev. Stephen Oglesbee will officiate and burial will be in Fairview cemetery. Memorials to the Epworth United Methodist Church.

Eugene A. Lanhardt, 86
A Bluffton resident for the past five years, Eugene A. Lanhardt, 86, died at 1:25 p.m. Monday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he had been a patient three days. He had been in failing health two months.
Mr. Lanhardt, a retired farmer and who retired in 1985 from Gildersleve Seed Co. in Hudson, Ill., moved to Bluffton from Hudson in 1996 to reside with a sister at 627 West Silver St.
He was a veteran of U.S. Army service during World War II.
He was born in Yuton, Ill., Aug. 26, 1914 to Herman and Elizabeth Gustmann Lanhardt. His marriage was to Edith Simpson, who died Aug. 6, 1989.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Madalyn Alford of Torrence, Calif., and Mrs. Evelyn Hendricks of Bluffton; a brother, Herman in Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. A brother is deceased.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parkhill cemetery in Bloomington, Ill. Calling hours in Bluffton will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home and in Bloomington, Ill., Friday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home.

Rev. Ivan E. Steed, 80
Rev. Ivan E. Steed, 80, a United Methodist minister for more than 56 years, died late Monday evening at his residence in Portland.
He was pastor of EUB Churches in in Remington, Wabash, Perrysburg, Gessie, Rileyburg, Pfrimmers, Corydon, Old Union, Leipsic, Coal City and Veedersburg. He also pastored United Methodist Churches at Odon, Evansville, Liberty, and Fairview and Bellfountain, both in Jay County.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; three sons, John A. of Greenwood, Stephen V. of Greenfield and David W. of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Olson officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF cemetery at Pennville. Visitation hours at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Memorials to the Jay County Cancer Society or to the church.
