Janice Ford, 70
Janice E. Ford, 70, Hartford City, died Thursday, Sept. 2 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Survivors include her husband, Francis G. Ford; a daughter, Cynthia Bramlett of Muncie; a son, F. Dwayne Ford of Portland; eight grandchildren, several of whom reside in Wells County; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Compton.
Calling hours are today from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Keplinger Funeral Home in Hartford City, and Saturday for two hours prior to the service, which will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. Preferred memorials are to the Hartford City Tri-Kappa Cancer Fund.

Arthur L. Wyant, 79
A former resident of Wells County, Arthur L. Wyant, 79, of Yoder died at 8:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Wyant lived in Wells County for 35 years before moving to Allen County in 1995. He was employed as a truck driver for B&L Motor Freight for 30 years, retiring in 1987. A veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict with the U.S. Army, he was a member of American Legion Post 160 of Roanoke, Masonic Lodge #739 of Waynedale, Scottish Rite, Shrine Temple and a member of the Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron for several years.
Born Nov. 8, 1924 in Lebanon, Ind., to Ora W. and Emma Unger Wyant, his marriage on June 14, 1947 in Caratan, France, was to Simone H. Hilaire, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Steve M. Wyant of Missoula, Mont., two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Carol) Chaney of Leo, Mrs. Bryan (Lisa) Stiebeling of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren and six grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Donald E. Wyant of Lynchburg, Va., and a sister, Ida Mossburg of St. Petersburg, Fla. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Wyant.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home, where calling will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Pastor Ron Collins will officiate at services and burial will be in Mossburg cemetery at Liberty Center with military graveside rites. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the Shriners Hospital.

Edwina (Winnie) Ruth Dumpert, 69
A former resident of Liberty Center, Edwina (Winnie) Ruth Dumpert, 69, of Crestview, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 2 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
She was retired as a personal director for Pierce Governor in Upland after 27 years of service. She also worked for Grant-Blackcord Mental Health Center in Marion and was a member of the Shrinettes in Crestview and a volunteer at the local library. She had resided in Florida since 1999.
Born Jan. 12, 1935 in Jersey City, N.J., to Edward and Ruth Leahy, her marriage on Aug. 8, 1952 was to Lawrence Dumpert, Jr., who survives in Crestview.
Also surviving are a son, Lawrence Dumpert III, of Liberty Center; three daughters, Mrs. Tommie (Ruth) Horne of Michigan City; Mrs. Galen (Debbie) King of Bluffton and Mrs. Jay (Lori) Wolfgang of Pennville; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in Montpelier, where calling will be Monday from 2 to 8 pm. Burial will be at Stahl cemetery south of Bluffton.

Lorraine E. Smith, 88
A former personnel director at Sheller Globe, Lorraine E. Smith, 88, of Hartford City, died at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at Blackford Community Hospital.
A charter member of the Grace Baptist Church in Montpelier and a member of the MENSA organization, she had lived in Washington Twp. (Roll area) for many years.
Born Sept. 21, 1915 in Crookston, Maine to Will S. and Bertha Leonard Davis, her marriage on June 12, 1937 in Chicago, Ill., was to John Walter Smith, who preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1967.
Surviving are a son, John O’Dell Smith of Indianapolis; a daughter, Mrs. David (Laura) Morgan of Hartford City; a sister, Elinor Kist of New Hampton, Ia., 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Floy Dollar, two sisters, two brothers and a granddaughter.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in Montpelier, where calling will be Sunday from 2 to 8 pm. Ptor Dennis Clouse will officiate and burial will be at Brookside Memorial Park in Montpelier.

Dwight “Butch” Moser, 61
Dwight A. “Butch” Moser, 61, a Wells County native and life-long Adams County farmer, died at 9:55 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at his home after a brief illness.
Born on June 29, 1943 to Harold A. and Aldine Kaehr Moser, he married
Pat Fiechter on March 22, 1964 in Wells County; she survives. A 1961 graduate of Adams Central High School, he was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Bluffton and was active in Habitat for Humanity and the Apostolic World Relief efforts.
Other survivors include his mother of Decatur; two daughters, Mrs. Trent (Kelli) Bucher and Mrs. Marvin (Kim) Reinhard, both of Bluffton; two sons, Ked Moser of Craigville and Kurt Moser of Decatur; a brother, Phil Moser of Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. Jerry (Ann) Gerber of Bluffton and Mrs. Leon (Cindy) Kauffman of Monroe; and 14 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Apostolic Christian Church North in Bluffton. Calling hours are today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton and for one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian cemetery.
Preferred memorials to Hospice of Northeast Indiana, Apostolic World Relief or the Jamaician Deaf Village.

Terry K. Rogers, 59
Terry K. Rogers, 59, Ossian, died Sunday, Sept. 5 in Fort Wayne. A U.S. Army veteran, he retired in 1993 from Lucent (AT&T) and was a member of the VFW Kekionga Post 1421 and American Legion Post 241.
Born March 4, 1945 in Decatur, survivors include his mother, Betty Rogers of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Marla Martinez of New Haven; a son, Neil D. Rogers of Fort Wayne; six brothers, Dan Rogers of Yoder, Bob, Jim and Doug Rogers, all of Fort Wayne, Jerry Rogers of Van Wert, Ohio, and Steve Rogers of Pendleton; five sisters, Gloria Sanderson, Joie Means, Barb Hungerford and Becky Campbell, all of Fort Wayne, and Susie Lude of Columbia City; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Rogers in 1985.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Waynedale. Services will be held there Thursday at 11 a.m. Graveside military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post 241 Honor Guard. Burial will be in Prairie Grove cemetery in Fort Wayne.

Velma M. Wolfe, 90
Velma M. Wolfe, 90, of Yoder, died Saturday, Sept. 4 at her residence.
Born in Allen County on Dec. 22, 1913 to Lumley T. and Grace Ludwig Swaim, she was a homemaker and attended Roanoke Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, John Wolfe of Yoder and Carl Wolfe of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Kathy Dennon of Huntertown; a brother, James Swaim of Ossian; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wolfe in 1984; a son, Richard Wolfe; and a daughter, Ruth Bremer.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian, with calling there this evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Lawn cemetery in Ossian. Memorials to the donor’s choice.

Thelma Hutton, 94
Services for Thelma Maxine (Stewart) Hutton, 94, of Warren, will be held Wednesday at 12 noon at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren. She died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sullivan on June 15, 1910 to David E. and Geniveve Steele Stewart, she married
James H. Hutton on Oct. 24, 1971 in Anderson; he died Jan. 3, 1986.
A 1928 graduate of Carlisle High School, she lived in Anderson for 54 years before moving into the Warren home in 1982. She was employed at Delco Remy for 42 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of New Horizons United Methodist Church in Anderson, the Killbuck Retirees, United Methodist Women and the United Auto Workers in Anderson.
She is survived by a step son, Frank Hutton of Anderson; a brother, Malcolm Stewart of Jackson, Miss.; two sisters, Pauline Travis of Anderson and Freda Provost of Independence, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two step sons, James and Charles Hutton; a sister, Mildred Bridges; and two brothers, Harold and Hobart Stewart.
Calling will be for one hour prior to the service Wednesday, with burial in Philadelphia cemetery in Philadelphia, Ind. Arrangements are being handled by Glancy Funeral Home, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren.

Robert J. Haley, 93
Robert J. Haley, 93, Warren, died at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6 at the United Methodist Memorial Home.
Born in North Manchester on March 9, 1911 to Wilbert and Amy R. Smith Haley, he married
Harriet J. Bailey on Aug. 8, 1929 in Centerville, Mich.; she died May 22, 2003.
Mr. Haley worked at Fisher Body in Marion for 20 years, retiring in 1974. He was a graduate of Andrews High School and a member of the A.F.L. local in Marion.
He is survived by a daughter, Reba Groves of Lancaster; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, William Haley.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Monument City cemetery in Monument City. Preferred memorials to the Salvation Army. Arrangements are being handled by Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren.

Louise Pennington, 44
Funeral services were held Monday for Louise Pennington, 44, of Hartford City, who died Friday, Sept. 3 in Blackford County as the result of a traffic accident.
Services were held at Waters Funeral Home in Hartford City with Rev. Bobby Thomas presiding and burial in Hartford City cemetery.
Born May 20, 1960 in Kenton County, Ky., to Owen F. and Mary M. Mains Tungate, she attended Delta High School and was employed part-time at the Depot in Hartford City and had worked for Life Touch of Muncie for 12 years.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Gary Pennington, three sons, Andrew, Jacob and Joseph, all of Hartford City, her parents, of Hartford City, five brothers, Frank Tungate of Verona, Ky., Tony Tungate of Ossian, Owen C. Tungate of Mt. Zion, Ky., Phillip Tungate and David Dow, both of Hartford City, a sister, Mrs. Joe (Christina) Sutton of Hartford City and three granddaughters.
Preferred memorials are to the Hartford City Fire Department Rescue Fund.

The brother of Mrs. Marvin (Lucile) Stoppenhagen of Ossian, Wilbert G. Steele, 89, Decatur, died at 9:22 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 5 at the Adams County Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur.
Visitation hours are Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

Funeral services were held today at Waters Funeral Home in Hartford City for Ben F. Barnes, 65, of Montpelier, who died Friday, Sept. 3 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Born March 29, 1939 in Garden City, Kan., to George and Etta Maye Henery Barnes, his marriage on July 21, 1979 was to Pamela Arrington, who survives. He worked for the Hartford Sawmill, the City of Hartford City and retired from Dacra Glass in 2001.
Other survivors are two sons, Ben F. Barnes of Missouri and James Shrack of Hartford City; a daughter, Cindy Barnes of Missouri, and four grandchildren.Guy Kershner, 90 - Rites Pending

Arthur Sparks, 83
Arthur L. “Art” Sparks, 83, of Markle, died at 5:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6 at the Markle Health Care Center.
Born in Van Buren on Oct. 17, 1920 to William and Grace Huffman Sparks, he married
Ruby E. Lahr on May 31, 1946 in Warren; she survives.
A World War II veteran in the U.S. Army, he was a lifetime farmer in Huntington County and also worked at the Anaconda Wire and Cable company in Marion for five years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 85.
Other survivors include three daughters, Dixie Oldham of Markle, Rita Kaehr of Decatur and Julia Sparks of Marion; a son, Roger Sparks of Marion; a brother, Dale Sparks of Van Buren; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Sam, Paul, Milford, Delmar and Vern Sparks; two sisters, Iva Lane and Joan Howard; and one grandchild.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel. Services will be held there Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating.
Interment will be at the Star of Hope cemetery in Huntington County.
