Chester D. Haines, 65
The son of Ella Mae Haines of Bluffton, Chester D. Haines, 65, of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 17 at his residence.
Born in Kosciusko County, he worked at General Electric in Fort Wayne for 28 years, retiring in 1994.
Other survivors include his wife, Delores (Keller) Haines, whom he married
in Auburn on March 21, 1991; one son, Tom C. Haines of Waynedale; a daughter, Jewel Landers of Fort Wayne; two step sons, four step daughters; one brother, Russell Haines of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Marge Blair of Huntington; three grandchildren and several step grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Feller Funeral Home in Waterloo. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial in Waterloo cemetery. Preferred memorials to Parkview Noble Hospital.

Betty L. Owens, 89
The sister of Virginia Crist of Bluffton, Betty L. Owens, 89, of Fort Wayne died Sunday, July 18, at Lutheran Hospital.
Born March 29, 1915 in Huntington to Franklin Jesse and Estella Elijah Briggs Wolverton, her marriage on June 23, 1935 was to Charles F. Owens who preceded her in death in 1972.
She was formerly employed by Kastner’s Market, Our Sunday Visitor and Hunckler Products, all of Huntington. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Wayne.
In addition to the sister in Bluffton, other survivors include a daughter, Charlene Wirtner of Fort Wayne; three sons, James R. Owens of Shinglesprings, Calif., and Timothy F. Owens and Chuck E. Owens, both of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a great grandchild.
Calling will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home in Huntington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington with Father Gary Sigler presiding. Calling will also be at the church for one hour prior to services.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery in Huntington.

Robert J. Otto IV, 13
Robert J. Otto IV, 13, of 11080 North State Road 1, Ossian, died at 1:54 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He would have been an eighth grader this coming year at Norwell Middle School, where he also played football. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Yoder.
Robert was born Dec. 30, 1990 in Wells County to Robert J. Otto III and Gina Christy Vinci.
Surviving are his father and stepmother, Robert and Lora Otto of Ossian; his mother and stepfather, Gina Vinci of Indianapolis and Vincent Vinci, stationed in Korea with the U.S. Army; one brother, David Vinci of Indianapolis; two sisters, Becca and Angela Vinci of Indianapolis; grandparents Robert Jr. and Audrey Otto of Indianapolis, Michael and Sonja Kelly of Berne, Bernadette and Ronald Reisinger of Fort Wayne, John and Susan Graves of Brownsville, Indiana, Kent Christy of Indianapolis and Stephen Deuser of Carmel, and great-grandparents Robert Sr. and Rose Otto of Crystal Falls, Mich., Bryce and Deloris Christy of Berne, Jack and Betty Stahley of Portland and Cedric and Margaret McAbee of Portland.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home in Decatur with Scriptural wake at 8 p.m.
A prayer service Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home will be followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church in Geneva with Father Dominique Carboneau officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic cemetery at Geneva. Memorials to the family.

Helen Oxenrider, 84
The mother of a former Bluffton-Harrison M.S.D. teacher and administrator, Helen Oxenrider, 84, of Zionsville, died Saturday, July 17 at Zionsville Meadows.
Born Dec. 20, 1919 in Pierceton to Earl and Minnie Weaver Orr, her marriage on Sept. 15, 1941 was to Willard K. Oxenrider, who preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1994.
A homemaker, she was a member of Pierceton United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Gary Oxenrider of Zionsville, who is a former Bluffton resident and teacher and administrator in the Bluffton-Harrison school system; a daughter, Carole Koos of Warsaw, a brother, James Orr of Placeville, Calif., five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Pierceton with Rev. Don Poyser officiating and burial in Hillcrest cemetery in Pierceton. Calling at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to the Pierceton United Methodist Church, 502 N. First St., Pierceton, IN 46562.

Alice Y. Sheley, 73
Mother of Dale Sheley of Markle, Alice Y. Sheley, 73, Lafayette Twp., Allen County, died Wednesday, July 21, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born in Huntington, she was married
to Charles D. Sheley. He survives.
She was retired from the Guardian Photo Lab and was involved with the Lafayette Home Economic Club. She was a member of the Monson Chapel United Methodist Church.
In addition to the son in Markle, she is survived by three daughters, Lee Ann Sheley of Lafayette Twp., Sandra Waterhouse of Huntington, and Charla Kurtz of Molina, Ga.; two sisters, Carol Alter of Pleasant Lake and Linda McCoy of Lafayette Twp.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Monson Chapel. Burial will follow at Oaklawn cemetery in Ossian.
Calling hours are 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at D.O. McComb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Monson Chapel.

James F. Ley, 63
A Wells County native, James F. Ley, 63, of Noblesville, died Thursday, July 22 at Indiana Heart Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Nov. 15, 1940 to Edward and Eleanor Herring Ley, he married
Dorothy Tuttle Weaver on Dec. 31, 1992 in Fort Wayne; she survives. He lived most of his life in Huntington, graduating from Huntington Catholic High School in 1959 and worked as a trainman for CSX Railroad.
Other survivors include a son, two daughters; a step son, a step daughter, two brothers, four sisters, and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Myers Funeral Home in Huntington, with calling there Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Victory Junction Camp in care of the funeral home.

Doris E. Paxson-Traughber, 84
A registered nurse at Caylor-Nickel Clinic for 30 years, Doris E. Paxson-Traughber, 84, of Bluffton, died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 29 at Christian Care Retirement Community.
Born May 5, 1020 in Ellesmere Port, England to Jack and Margaret Victoria Baker Nixon, she had resided in Indiana since 1947. Her marriage in Fort Wayne in 1979 was to John Traughber, who preceded her in death in 1980.
She graduated from nursing school in England in 1943 and served as an R.N. at Caylor-Nickel Clinic for 30 years, retiring in 1985. After retirement she volunteered several hours a week at the clinic for more than 10 years. She was a member of the English Club and an avid swimmer and pool player.
She was a former Senior Olympic winner and was a recipient of the Tri-County Senior Fitness Award.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Bluffton and American Legion Post 111 Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra Hummer of Marion and a son, Kevin E. Paxson of Berne; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home with calling two hours prior to services. Rev. Scott Meier will officiate at services. The body will be cremated.
Preferred memorials are to Calvary Lutheran Church.

Infant Ryan S. Schwartz
Two-day-old infant Ryan Schwartz, son of Enos B. and Susan J. Schwartz, rural Geneva, died Wednesday, July 28, at the emergency room of Bluffton Regional medical center.
He is survived by three brothers, Matthew, Enos and Steven; five sisters, Laura, Barbara, Susan, Elsie and Lily; maternal grandparents Menno and Barbara Schwartz and paternal grandmother Bertha Schwartz, all of Geneva; and a maternal great-grandmother, Dena Eicher of Walhonding, Ohio.
Calling at the family residence was held today with the funeral scheduled for 3 p.m. Bishop Dave Wengerd officiated and burial followed in the Bunker Hill cemetery in Adams County.
Arrangements are in charge of Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, geneva.

Geraldine L. Baker, 72
Mother of Phil Baker of Ossian, Geraldine L. Baker, 72, died at her residence in Fort Wayne Monday, July 26.
Born Jan. 23, 1932 to Roy and Agnes Genth, she was married
to Carl Baker who preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to the son in Ossian, she is survived by her mother, who lives in New Haven; two other sons, Tim and Chad, both of Fort Wayne; a sister Marilyn Gebert of New Haven; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Baker, and a brother, Gary Genth.
Calling from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday will be at the Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, Waynedale, with a memorial service scheduled to follow at 1 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home or Donor’s Circle.

Ivan D. Fox, 77
Brother of Mrs. Dale (Deloris) Harvey of Bluffton, Ivan D. Fox, 77, Geneva, died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Chalet Village Health Care Center in Berne.
Born in Adams County April 2, 1927 to Milo and Mary Edith Hirschy Fuchs, he was a retired Jay County farmer and lived most of his life in Jay and Adams counties.
In addition to the Bluffton sister, survivors include two sons, Ted, of St. Marys, Ohio, and Roger of Portland; a daughter, Mrs. George (Nona) Boice of Bryant; two brothers, Herman Fox of Fort Wayne and Delbert Fuchs of Monroe; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A twin sister, Irene Burkholder, and a grandson preceded him in death.
Calling at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva will be held today from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Paul VanCise will officiate and burial will be in the M.R.E. cemetery west of Berne. memorials may be made to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.

John P. Stroup, 72
A former mechanical engineer with Magnavox, John P. Stroup, 72, of Craigville, died at 4:20 a.m. today, July 30, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Stroup retired from Magnavox in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and was a member and past commander of the American Legion.
Born Sept. 3, 1931 in Fort Wayne to Clarence G. and Mary L. Cary Stroup, his marriage on May 1, 1953 in Fort Wayne was to the former Betty Foreman, who survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Cindy Ann) Brown of Churubusco and five sons, John G. Stroup of Tallahassee, Fla.; Joseph A. Stroup of Monroe; James G. Stroup of Cincinnati, Ohio; Jeff A. Stroup of Indianapolis and Daniel C. Stroup of Craigville. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dan York officiating and burial in Marion National cemetery.
Calling at the funeral home will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service. The American Legion will perform a service at the funeral home after the funeral service.
