Rolland Leon Fennig, 84
A lifelong farmer in Bearcreek Twp. in Jay County, Rolland Leon Fennig, 84, died Tuesday afternoon, July 6, at his rural Geneva residence.
Born Nov. 19, 1919 to Homer and Leota Loyer Fennig, he married
the former Juanita Fern Nusbaumer Feb. 27, 1944. She survives.
He was a member of the Westchester United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent, a Sunday school teacher and a lay leader for many years. He also was a member of the Jay County Farm Bureau, a member of the Jay County REMC Board of Directors, belonged to the Carriage Travel Club, the NCHA Campers and the Limberlost Camping Club. He served as an advisor for the Farmers Credit Service and was named FFA Farmer of the Year in 1999.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Barry L. and Stephen W., both of rural Bryant, and Randall G. of Springfield, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Fennig, and two brothers.
Services at the Westchester United Methodist Church, 400N-450E, Portland, will be Friday at 2 p.m. Pastor Darrel Borders will officiate and burial will follow in the Gravel Hill cemetery west of Bryant.
Calling at the Portland Chapel of William & Spencer Funeral Home will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the church building fund or the State of the Heart Hospice.

Thelma “June” Keplinger, 88
Thelma “June” Keplinger, 88, of Warren died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, July 8 at the United Methodist Memorial Home.
She was a farm wife and also worked at the United Methodist Memorial Home for several years in housekeeping. She was a past member of the Eastern Star and Tri Kappa in Warren and lived most of her life in Huntington and Wells Counties. She was a 1934 graduate of Warren High School and attended the United Church of Christ in Warren.
Born June 28, 1916 in Huntington County to James Elmer and Emma Jackson Riggs, her marriage on Oct. 30, 1934 in Redkey was to Herbert “Pete” P. Keplinger, who preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1991.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Philip (Jane A.) Roush of Hartford City, a son, DeWayne Keplinger of Montpelier, five grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren with Pastor Troy Drayer officiating and burial in Woodlawn cemetery in Warren. Calling at the funeral home will be Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Sunday for one hour prior to services.
Preferred memorials are to donor’s choice.

Everett Goshorn, 97
Everett E. Goshorn, 97, formerly of Huntington, died at 10:48 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Christian Care Retirement Community in Bluffton.
A native of Ossian, he was born May 19, 1907 to Elwin and Darlene Carr Goshorn, and married
Sophie Marks of Indianapolis on July 25, 1931; she died July 10, 2001.
A 1925 graduate of Huntington High School, Mr. Goshorn graduated from Huntington College in 1929 and received his Masters of School Administration from Indiana University in 1935.
He began his life long career in education in Union Center school in Wells County and also taught at Union Center of Huntington County. He was principal at Riley Elementary School in Huntington from 1935 to 1952 and finished his career as principal of Central Elementary School in Huntington. He remained active after his retirement, serving on the Huntington School Board and the YMCA board.
He was a member of the Central Christian Church in Huntington, where he taught Sunday School for over 40 years, served as deacon, an elder and member of the church foundation. He was also a member and past president of the Huntington Rotary Club and the Cosmopolitan Club.
Survivors include a son, Everett (Bill) Goshorn of Bluffton; a daughter, Anne Mitchell of Bellevue, Wash.; two sisters, Betty Cowden of Ossian and Margaret Kitt of Ann Arbor, Mich.; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy, John Carr and Richard “Doc’ Goshorn, and one sister, Catherine Goshorn.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Shannon officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.
Burial in Oak Lawn cemetery in Ossian. Preferred memorials to the church’s foundation, Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana and Christian Care Retirement Community.

Carl Harris, 72
Carl S. Harris, 72, a former resident of Fort Wayne, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004, at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren.
Born in Fort Wayne on March 9, 1932 to Earl “Ray” and Edith Sickler Harris, he married
Carolyn J. Harris on Feb. 2, 1951 in Warren; she died Feb. 4, 2004.
A graduate of Warren High School, Mr. Harris worked at Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne as a processing engineer and was also a licensed pilot. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
Survivors include two daughters, Denise McIntire of Warren and Rhonda Grable of Big Lake; a sister, Beatrice Crumm of Warsaw; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gale Harris.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Glancy Funeral Home, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren, and for one hour prior to the service, which will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Tim Grable officiating.

A native of Wells County, Freida Joan Eyer, 78, of Churubusco, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born Dec. 5, 1925 near Liberty Center to Loyd and Verine Overmire Minniear, she graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1943 and married
Harold E. Eyer on March 20, 1954; he survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Debra Eyer of Phoenix, Ariz.; a son, Harold Eyer, Jr. of Churubusco; and a half-sister, Bea Mann of Montpelier.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Churubusco United Methodist Church. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco. Burial will be in the Christian Chapel cemetery in Merriam. Preferred memorials to the Churubusco United Methodist Church.

Karen Martin, 61
Karen Sue Martin, 61, of rural Van Buren (Jackson Township, Wells County), died Friday, July 9, 2004, at her home.
Born in Allen County on Feb. 3, 1943 to Jacob and Janet E. Stogdill Merckx, she married
Jerry L. Martin on Jan. 11, 1964 in Roanoke; he died Aug. 18, 1986.
A 1961 graduate of Roanoke High School, she worked at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren as a Certified Nursing Assistant on third shift for 29 years. She was also a former beautician and formerly attended the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Brockhaus of Warren and Patty Martin of Van Buren; two sons, Jerry Martin, Jr. and Danny Martin, both of Van Buren; a brother, DeWayne Merckx of Mishawaka; two sisters, Diane Smith of Warren and Patty Merckx of Huntington; and three grandchildren.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Glancy Funeral Home, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren, with services there Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. John Wallace officiating. Burial in Woodlawn cemetery in Warren.

H. Jeanette Moran, 82, of Huntington, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Linda Dunwiddie, of Bluffton.

Susan Hermann, 45
The daughter of a former Bluffton woman, Susan Porter Hermann, 45, died June 19 in Cape Coral, Fla. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Dale Porter of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Porter is the former Judy Markley. She is survived by three daughters; a granddaughter; her parents; two sisters and two brothers.
A memorial service was held in the chapel of the Coral Ridge Funeral Home.

Gary E. Bonifield II, 34
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday with Rev. Jack Littlefield presiding at Glancy Funeral Homes-Walker Chapel in Montpelier for Gary E. Bonifield II, 34, of Montpelier. Mr. Bonifield died Tuesday morning, July13, from injuries in an auto accident that morning in Chester Township of Wells County.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Brookside Memorial Park, Montpelier. Memorials to the Zachary Bonifield Education Fund.
Mr. Bonifield had worked for Indiana Veneer in Montpelier and had lived for most of his life in Wells and Blackford Counties. He was a member of the Bro Shadow Club.
Born Dec. 26, 1969, in Jay County, he was the son of Gary E. and Sandra G. Zuercher Bonifield, both deceased. He was a 1988 graduate of Southern Wells High School.
Surviving are a son, Zachary Bonifield of Bluffton, a step-daughter, Nichole Norman of Bluffton; three sisters, Melissa Culbertson of Keystone, Mrs.Ronnie (Christina K.) Williams of Montpelier and Heather N. Bonifield of Montpelier; a grandmother, Marcella L. Bonifield of Salamonia; two grandchildren, and a companion, Tammy Bailey of Bluffton.

Robert H. Ayers, 84
A longtime farmer here who raised registered Ayrshire cows and turkeys, Robert H. Ayers, 84, of 2109 East 300N, Bluffton, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2004, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Ayers also sold insurance and generators in his versatile career after retirement from farming. He was a longstanding member of the Bluffton First United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees and other boards and ushered regularly over the years.
Mr. Ayers was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Lowell, Indiana of Lake County to Arthur and Carrie Hathaway Ayers. He was a 1938 graduate of Roanoke High School and attended Ball State for two years. He was inducted into the Huntington County Athletic Hall of Fame.
His marriage was on May 30, 1941, in Bluffton to Margaret E. Henry, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Joe and Tom H. Ayers, both of Bluffton, two brothers, Bruce A. Ayers of Gary and Dean Ayers of Churubusco;10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bill Ayers, who died in 2004.
Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m.Tuesday at Thoma /Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home and at the church Wednesday for an hour prior to the service. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m.Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Bluffton, with Rev. Gary Lewis officiating. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church, Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana or the American Cancer Association.

Betty O. Guldice, 74
Betty O.Guldice, 74, formerly of Leesburg, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at St. Anne’s Home in Fort Wayne.
She was born Nov. 18, 1929, in Montpelier to Wesley and Lenah Brinneman Hawk. Her marriage was on June 25, 1965, in Bluffton to Carl W.Guldice, who preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2001.
She was employed formerly at Heaters Engineering. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, Michael Guldice of Huntington; two sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Vera) Moore of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Jack (Esther) Elkins of Montpelier, and three grandchildren. A brother, Gene Hawk, is deceased.
Calling will be Sunday from 3 p.m.to 5 p.m. at St. Anne’s Home, 1900 Randalia, Fort Wayne, and Monday from 12 noon until the time of service at Goodwin Memorial Chapel. The service will be at 2 p.m.with Rev.James Poling officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.

Donald F. Dale, 69
A former employee of Corning Glass Works, Donald F. Dale, 69, of Craigville died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Lutheran Hospital.
Mr. Dale retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1988 and also was employed for 19 years with Corning Glass. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954.
Born Nov. 13, 1934 in Martinsville to O. Pierce and E. LaVelle Franklin Dale, his marriage on Sept. 21, 1969 in Latonya, Ky., was to Barbara Massey, who survives.
Other survivors include a son, Donald M. Dale of Fort Wayne; four daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Deb) Irwin, Mrs. Tom (Gina) Hon and Mrs. Mark (Tina) Faller, all of Craigville and Emily Dale of Fort Wayne; two brothers, David Dale in Montana and Stephen Dale in Oregon, and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles F. Dale in 1988.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Travis Combest and Rev. Edward Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Decatur cemetery. The American Legion will be in charge of graveside services.
Calling at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to the Faith Baptist Church in Berne.

Robert L. Eltzroth, 62
Robert L. “Bob” Eltzroth, 62, a native of Montpelier and a Fort Wayne resident, died unexpectedly at 1:40 p.m. Friday, July 16 at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born on Aug. 5, 1941 to Robert and Geneva Risinger Lafever Eltzroth, he had retired as manager of Fort Wayne Pools. He attended elementary school in Montpelier and was a graduate of Fort Wayne Central High School. He also served as a volunteer at the Fort Wayne Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his companion, Edith Hannan of Fort Wayne, and an aunt, Leone Michaels of Montpelier.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Glancy Funeral Home, Walker Chapel in Montpelier, with calling two hours prior. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Montpelier.
