Richard E. Walters, 79
A resident of Albion, Richard E. Walters, 79, died at 10:09 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born Jan. 3, 1925, to Lloyd and Hazel Fosnaugh Walters, he was married
to Elva L. Walters, who preceded him in death.
He worked for Dana in Fort Wayne for 41 years, retiring in 1992.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours or funeral service.
Arrangements are through Glancy Funeral Homes-H. Brown & Son Chapel, Warren.

Clara A. Wheeler, 87
Clara A. Wheeler, 87, Linn Grove, died at 1:05 p.m. Thursday, March 25 at Chalet Village in Berne.
A native of Wells County, she was born on March 3, 1917 to Clem and Myna Heckley Wasson and married
Hubert “Jerry”Wheeler in Wells County in October, 1937; he died in January, 1977. A 1935 graduate of Lancaster Central High School, she was a homemaker and also worked at Swiss Village in Berne for several years. She was a member of Eastern Star Bluffton Chapter 48 and attended Living Waters United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Carol) Engle of Bluffton, Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Schooley of Plainfield, and Kay Wheeler of Indianapolis; a son, Kelly Wheeler of Berne; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Wasson and John Wasson.
Calling hours are Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt &Chaney Funeral Home in Bluffton and for one our prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home, which will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Klinker officiating. Burial in Six Mile cemetery.
Preferred memorials to the Gideons or Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.

Roberta Reinhard, 87
Services for Roberta L. Reinhard, 87, of Berne, will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Cross United Church of Christ in Berne. She died Wednesday, March 24 at Swiss Village. Calling hours are Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Swiss Village, Sunday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne, and from noon until the time of the service at the church.

Ruth Cress Sandeson, 78
Ruth Cress Sandeson, 78, of Fort Wayne died Wednesday, March 24 after a long battle with lung cancer.
She was a homemaker and bookkeeper at Cress Market and the bookkeeper and assistant to the manager at Mizpah Shrine Temple.
She is survived by two sons, Robert G. Cress of Bluffton and Rev. Dr. C. James Cress of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Irma Lee) Hogan of Checotah, Okla., and four granddaughters.
The Service for the Celebration of Eternal Life will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Klaehn, Fahl, Melton Funeral Home, 405 West Wayne St., in Fort Wayne, with visitatin at the funeral home Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service.
Preferred memorials are to Grace Lutheran Church of Columbia City.

Esther Rekeweg, 82
Esther B. Rekeweg, 82, a Bluffton native and former Decatur resident, died Thursday, March 25 in Kingwood, Texas, where she had been a resident since 1999.
Born June 9, 1921 to John and Dottie Magley Shaffer, she married
Ernst Rekeweg, who died June 23, 1991. She was a homemaker and a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur.
She is survived by a son, Glen Rekeweg of Kingwood, Texas; two sisters, Frances Glass of Fort Wayne and Marie Blow of Newton, Kan.; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, with Pastor John Fuchs officiating. Calling will be Monday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Concordia Gardens in Fort Wayne.

J. Edward Roush, 83
Former U.S. Congressman J. Edward Roush, 83, Huntington, died at 12:12 p.m. on Friday, March 26 at The Heritage of Huntington care center.
A native of Oklahoma, he graduated from Huntington High School in 1938, Huntington College in 1942 and the Indiana University Law School in 1949. He served as an Infantry Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning a Bronze Star after seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge. He also was recalled to active duty during the Korean War.
While still in law school, he was elected as a representative to the Indiana State Legislature, and joined the law firm of CWH Bangs in Huntington after graduation. He was the U.S. Congressman for the 5th District from 1958-1968 and 4th District from 1970 to 1976. He also served for 50 years on the Huntington College Board of Trustees, and served a six-month term as interim president of the college in 1989. He was a member of the College Park United Brethren Church since 1949, where was was a Sunday School teacher and served on two building committees.
He is survived by his wife, Polly; three sons, David of Denver, Colo., Joel of Huntington, and Robin Roush of Roanoke; a daughter, Melody Wright of Winona Lake; a sister, Joan Heffelfinger of Huntington; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the College Park United Brethren Church in Huntington. Visitation hours are today and Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, as well as Wednesday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Interment will be in Pilgrim’s Rest cemetery in Huntington. Preferred memorials to J. Edward and Polly Roush Scholarship Fund at Huntington College.

Betty L. Edington, 82
A native of Bluffton, Betty L. Edington, 82, died at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27 at Hospice Home of Spring Hill, Fla.
A graduate of Bluffton High School, she was a former Bell Telephone operator in Bluffton and worked as an inspector at CTS in Berne for 11 years before retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Mulberry Wesleyan Church, Rebekah Lodge, Past Noble Grand Club and the American Legion Post 111 Ladies Auxiliary.
Born April 28, 1921 in Bluffton to Forrest and Esther L. Stanton Mosure, her marriage on July 31, 1942 in Bluffton was to Coulson “Junior” C. Edington. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1999.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Rex (Mary Ann) Mendenhall of Grass Valley, Calif. She was preceded in death by a brother, Forrest Mosure.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3 at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Hosier of the Mulberry Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will be in Six Mile cemetery.
Calling at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice Home in Spring Hills, Fla.

Esther M. Norton, 68
A native of Blackford County, Esther M. “Skittles” Norton, 68, died at 6:35 p.m. Friday, March 26 at Americare Nursing Center in Hartford City following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 9, 1935 to Lloyd and Nellie Irene Fetty Crain, her marriage on July 25, 1955 in Hartford City was to James A. Norton, who preceded her in death.
She was a 1953 graduate of Hartford City High School and attended the Calvary Pentecostal Church as a child. She had been blind since 1974.
Surviving are two sons, Tom Norton of Alexandria, Va., and Mike Norton of Muncie and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Waters Funeral Home, 501 West Washington St., in Hartford City, with Pastor Tom Parsons officiating and burial in the Gardens of Memory in Muncie.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Clifford S. Franklin, 97
A native of Leicestshire, England, Clifford S. Franklin, 97, died Sunday, March 28 at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren.
Born July 12, 1906 in England to Horace and Rosetta Turner Franklin, he moved with his family to Canada in 1912. He graduated from Tri-State College in Angola in 1942 and was a former civil engineer for the city of Fort Wayne. His career also moved him to Michigan and Oregon. He had resided at the Warren home since 1996.
His marriage on July 3, 1940 in Angola was to Marjorie Killinger, who survives in Warren. Other survivors are a son, Lloyd Franklin of Cave Junction, Oreg.; a brother, Tony Franklin in British Columbia and sisters in Canada, Dolce Schell of Ontario and Freida Billinghurst of Toronto.
There will be no services or visitation. Arrangements are in charge of Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren.

Velma Belle Cott, 80
Velma Belle Cott, 80, of Berne, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida.
She was a homemaker and formerly worked at the Geneva Public Library and at Nu Door in Geneva.
Born July 11, 1923, she was the daughter of Joseph and Lucretia Maggetti Bonando. Her marriage was on July 6, 1947, at Syracuse, Ind., to Alfred Cott, who survives. She and her husband had wintered in St. Petersburg for the past few years. She was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church in Geneva.
Also surviving are two daughters, Faye Cott and Mrs. Allen (Elaine) Goebbert, both of Huntington; one son, George Cott, of Lithia, Florida; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Calling will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Allen Goebbert officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Geneva.

Harold R. Kreischer, 74
Retired from RCA at Marion after working 37 1/2 years in the maintenance department, Harold R. Kreischer, 74, of rural Hartford City, died at 7:45 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, at the Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo.
He was a member of the Blackford County 4-H Board. A lifetime resident of Blackford County, he was a 1949 graduate of Roll High School, and he was a veteran of U.S. Army service in Germany during the Korean War.
Born to Roy and Lillie Schwarzkopf Kreischer, he was a member of the Farrville Community Church. His marriage was on Dec. 5, 1953, in Blackford County to Connie Roush, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Patty) Ehlers of Mason, Ohio, Mrs. Rich (Doris) Ankney of Ely, Nevada, and Mrs. Larry (Terri) Strezo of Elmhurst, Ill.; two sisters, Mary Barton of Gas City and Mrs. James (Helen) Shiner of Jonesboro, and six grandchildren.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Glancy Funeral Homes - Walker Chapel in Montpelier, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday with Pastor Daniel Metz officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memory at Muncie. Memorials to donor’s choice.

James E. Ratcliffe, 89
A former resident of Zanesville and father of Frank W. Ratcliffe of Zanesville, James E. Ratcliffe, 89, died Wednesday, June 2, in Bellview, Ky.
Born Nov. 24, 1914 in Eggleston, Va., to James C. and Lena T. Cumbie Ratcliffe, his marriage to the former Doris M. Skinnel took place Feb. 10, 1937 in Bluefield, W. Va. She preceded him in death May 18, 1991.
A resident of Flatwoods, Ky., Mr. Ratcliffe was a 1933 graduate of Beaver High School in Bluefield, W. Va. He was a past member of the Zanesville United Methodist Church and belonged to the Painters Local 469 Union in Fort Wayne, retiring in 1979. He was also a past member of the Zanesville Lions Club.
In addition to the son in Zanesville, he is survived by another son, James E. Jr., of Dayton, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Jerry Ann) Bailey of Russell, Ky.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Virginia Ratcliffe, Wanda Merchant, Essie May Haggy and Melissa Neal; two brothers, Herbert and Johnny, and a son, Robert.
Services Sunday at 2 p.m. will be at Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel with Pastor Mike Merrell officiating. Entombment will be at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne.
Calling at the funeral home will begin at 12 p.m. until time of services Sunday.
Preferred memorials are to the Zanesville United Methodist Church Building Fund.
