Edward C. Haggerty, 64
Edward C. Haggerty, 64, of Warren, died unexpectedly at 2:15 a.m. Monday at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Born in LaFontaine on May 25, 1939 to Charles E. and Freida Hilly Haggerty, he married
Barbara J. Botkin on Aug. 23, 1958 in Marion; she survives.
A life-long Huntington County resident, he retired in 1991 from General Motors in Marion after 22 years of service. He had also worked at Trans-Wheel in Huntington. He was a member of the Hillside Wesleyan Church in Marion.
Other survivors include three sons, Steve Haggerty of LaFontaine; Mike and Tim Haggerty, both of Warren; a brother, Dr. Fred Haggerty of Brazil; three sisters, Anna Wells of Marion, Jessie Bollett of Van Buren, and Edna Whitton of laFontaine; eight grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Stockman and a sister, Florence Cramer.
Visitation hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Glancy Funeral Home, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren, and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday, which will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Bingham officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Warren.

Pansy Irene Rice, 84
Pansy Irene Rice, 84, of rural Uniondale, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at her residence.
Born at Sims, Ind., on Dec. 9, 1919, to L. Harrison and Loretta Hale Denton, she had been a resident of Marion most of her life. Her marriage was to Charles Edward Rice, who preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1984.
She was employed for a number of years at Foster Forbes in Marion, and she was a member of the Markle Church of Christ.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Charlotte) Kreigh of Uniondale and Sondra Anderson of Ossian; one son, Raymond Tharp of Clarksville, Tenn.; one brother, Jack Denton of Marion; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Joyce Hodson and Joan Garrett, two sons, William Garrett and Larry Minniear, and three brothers, Roy, Kenny and Don Denton.
Calling will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Needham-Story-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 North Baldwin Ave., Marion, where services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Michael Wertenberger officiating. Burial will be in Converse cemetery at Converse.

Ruthella Creek, 88
A resident of Christian Care Retirement Community for the past seven years, Ruthella Creek, 88, died at 6:48 p.m. Wednesday at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born at Westfield Feb. 26, 1915 to Chase R. and Grace Pinkham Furnas, she married
Everett L. Creek June 8, 1935 in Rockford. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1997.
A 1933 graduate of North Side High School in Fort Wayne, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bluffton where she attended the Anchor Sunday School Class for many years. She was also a member of United Methodist Women. Active in the Poplar Grove Extension Homemakers Club, she served on many 4-H committees.
Survivors include two sons, David of Decatur, and James of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Anita Blake of Upland, Calif.; three sisters, Florence Crum of Bluffton, Jane Wise of Danville, New York and Edythe Duncan of Oak Creek, Wis.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph L. in 1992, and four brothers, Richard, Walter, Robert and Wade Furnas.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday will be held at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home under the direction of pastor Gary Lewis. Burial will be in the Six Mile cemetery.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Christian Care Retirement Community.

Rena R. McGee, 86
Rena R. McGee, 86, of Fort Wayne, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at her residence.
Born in Wells County Nov. 23, 1917 to Hirum and Bessie Burgess Lockwood, her marriage to Richard W. McGee occurred Nov. 27, 1952 in Allen County. He is the only survivor.
She was manager of the Howser Trailer Park in Fort Wayne for 20 years and also worked at Bowmar Instruments in Waynedale. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fort Wayne.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday will be held at Goodwin Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Betty Frolick and burial will be in the Stahl cemetery.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the church.

Betty J. Gray, 85
Betty J. Gray, 85, of Huntington, died at her residence at 5:11 a.m. today, Jan. 29.
Born in Spokane, Wash., June 7, 1918 to Lloyd and Bessie Dunon Garrison, she was married
to the late Fred Leo Gray.
A homemaker, Mrs. Gray formerly lived in Muncie, Hartford City, and Montpelier. She was a member of the Montpelier Assembly of God.
She is survived by two sons, Charles of Hartford City and William of Pasadena, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Fisher, Huntington; three brothers, Frank Murphy of Lewiston, Id., Burt Leyde of Bremington, Wash., and Stan Leyde of Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Doris Patterson, Seattle, Wa.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services at 2 p.m. Monday will be held at Glancy Funeral Homes-Walker Chapel, Montpelier. Officiating will be Rev. John Backus and burial will be in Miller cemetery, Poneto.
Calling hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Edward A. Irwin, 90
Edward A. Irwin, 90, a resident of the Warren United Methodist Memorial Home, died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the home.
Born Nov. 19, 1913 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Edgar and Emma Arnold Irwin, his marriage Nov. 18, 1939 to the former Jane Harnish took place in Lincolnville, Ind. She survives.
He was a switchman for 25 years with the Chicago Transit Authority.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Kathaleen Rae) Pepper of Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Mrs. Charlie (Sandra) Bauer of Barrington, Ill.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A daughter, Karen Rose Villwock, and three sisters, Betty Aquino Schwartz, Annabelle Irwin, and Margaret Harrod, preceded him in death.
Services at 2 p.m. Saturday will be held at the Warren United Methodist Memorial Home under the direction of Pastor Herbert Edwards. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory, Marion.
Calling will begin one hour prior to the start of services.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Memorial Home.

Todd A. Bowers, 37
Services for Todd Allen Bowers, 37, of Warren, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Glancy Funeral Home, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren. Mr. Bowers died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28 at his residence.
Born in Huntington on Oct. 8, 1966 to Harold S. and Jacqueline E. Yoder Bowers, he married
Brenda Slusher on Aug. 19, 1989 in Warren; she survives.
A 1985 graduate of Huntington North High School, he was a member of the Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene in Warren and worked at W. A. Zimmer in Huntington for eight years.
Other survivors include his mother of Huntington; a son, Jeremy, and a daughter, Angelica, both at home; five brothers, Gary and Greg Yoder of Andrews, Mike Yoder of Wolcottville, Kevin and Brian Yoder, both of Huntington; a sister, Vicki Thornsbury of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Bill Keen will officiate at the services, with burial in Star of Hope cemetery in Huntington.

George W. Rittenhouse, 91
Father of George Rittenhouse of Bluffton, George W. Rittenhouse, 91, Winchester, died Thursday, Jan. 22, at Randolph St. Vincent Hospital in Winchester.
He was born July 28, 1912 in Randolph County to Linas and Sidney Merritt Rittenhouse. His first wife was Olive Rittenhouse and his second wife was Virginia Mullen Rittenhouse. Both preceded him in death.
He was self-employed as a stone mason.
In addition to the son in Bluffton, he is survived by another son, Delbert Rittenhouse of Winchester; four daughters, Jennalee Thurston, Tuscon Ariz., Mrs. Byron (Mary Louise) Smithson of Ridgeville, Mrs. Raymond (Joann) Howell, Farmland, and Diana Sayers, Ocala, Fla.; 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services Monday at 1 p.m. will be held at Thornburgh/Lightner Funeral Home on Ind. 32 between Farmland and Parker City. Pastor Greg Rittenhouse will officiate and burial will be in the Lawndale cemetery in Ridgeville.
Calling will be held 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Bobby Pinkerton, 42
Bobby Pinkerton, 42, of Glenwood, Ark., died Wednesday, Jan. 21. He has a number of relatives in the Wells County area.
He was born in Fort Wayne on April 14, 1961 and is survived by three sons and a daughter.
Services were held today in Glenwood. Arrangements were handled by the Davis-Smith Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Dean Haggard, 76
Dean Haggard, 76, Ossian, died Saturday, Jan. 24 at Homewood Healthcare in Lebanon.
Mr. Haggard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Austria during World War II, and worked at International Harvester for 30 years.
He is suvived by his wife, Ann, of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Linda Nielsen of Lebanon and Jody McCrea of Chicago, Ill.; a son, Carlton Haggard of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Wayne Haggard of Bluffton; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian, with calling two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery in Ossian.

Helen Heffelfinger, 85
Helen Irene Heffelfinger, 85, of Huntington, died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday at her home. She was the stepmother of two Wells County women: Helen Gehring of Craigville and Betty Surbaugh, of Liberty Center.
Born Nov. 16, 1918 in Watseka, Ill. to Alfred and Emma Fiddler Satchwill, she was a homemaker and a member of the College Park United Brethren Church. She married
Franklin N. Smith in 1936 in Huntington; he died in 1942. Her second marriage was to Charley Heffelfinger in 1947 in Wabash County; he died in 1990.
Other survivors include a daughter, Susan Sommers of Huntington; a brother, Wendell Satchwill of Urbana; two grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; 15 step great-grandchildren; and three step great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Edmond Satchwill; and a sister, Bonnie Jean Satchwill.
Visitation hours are from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pilgrim’s Rest cemetery, Huntington. Preferred memorials to Parkview Huntington Home Health Care and Hospice.
