Marcus W. Ruble, 77
Marcus W. Ruble, 77, Warren, died at 6:18 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, where he had been a resident the past five years.
Born in Huntington County on Jan. 26, 1926 to Arthur and Ada Jones Ruble, he graduated from Salamonie Twp. High School in 1944. He retired from Dana Corp. in Marion in 1985 after 30 years. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army and a member of the Church of Christ in Warren. He married Jackqueline Bischoff on Aug. 27, 1949 in Huntington.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Ruble of Hoagland; two sons, Jeffery Ruble of Andrews and Gregory Ruble of Huntington; two step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Martha Morrison.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Glancy Funeral Home, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Warren. Burial in Gardens of Memory in Marion. Preferred memorials to the church.

Ruth R. Sellers, 81 — Rites Pending
Ruth R. Sellers, 81, died this morning at Meadowvale Health & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral arrangements are pending at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home.

Lela Marie Fisher, 84
A former Bluffton resident, Lela Marie Fisher, 84, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday at Miller’s Merry Manor in LaGrange.
Born in Fort Wayne March 1, 1919 to Harry and Cecile High Hinton, she married Paul F. Fisher Aug. 28, 1937 in Bluffton. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1992.
She worked for 23 years as a lab technician at Caylor-Nickel Medical Center. A member of the Wolcottville United Methodist Church, she served as a volunteer for the LaGrange County Red Cross and the LaGrange Clothing and Food Basket.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Carol) Beckley of Albion and Mrs. Joseph (Patty) Spallone of Tavaras, Fla; two brothers, Harry Hinton of Fort Wayne, and Richard Dale Hinton of North Webster; three grandsons, two step grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A granddaughter preceded her in death.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hutchins Funeral Home, Wolcottville.
Services at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home will be under the direction of Rev. Jack Thomas and burial will be in the Woodland cemetery, Wolcottville.

Margaret E. Sharp, 86
A former nurse’s aide at Caylor-Nickel Clinic, Margaret E. Sharp, 86, of Lafayette, died at 5:25 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at Rose Walk Village in Lafayette.
Born April 10, 1917 in Sheridan to Richard and Ruth Watts, she had been a resident of Lafayette since 1963. Her marriage on Aug. 31, 1940 was to Louis B. Sharp, who preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1987.
She was a member of the Linwood Church of Christ. She also had been employed as a nurse’s aide at Saint Elizabeth Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Bill Sharp of Lafayette, two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Marcia) Wintrode of Monticello and Mrs. Vance (Pat) Kiser of Largo, Fla.; two brothers, Leo Watts of Coco Beach, Fla., and Morris Watts of Lebanon; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette. Pastor Guy Brown will officiate and burial will take place at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

Barbara E. Lockwood, 77
A former resident and surgical nurse here, Barbara E. Lockwood, 77, of Byron Health Care Center in Fort Wayne, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was the mother of Thomas R. Lockwood and Philip K. Lockwood, both of Bluffton.
Born Feb. 22, 1926, to Leo and Mildred Borton Lillibridge at Hartford City, she was a 1944 graduate of Chester Center High School in Wells County.
She was graduated from Ball State’s School of Nursing and received her nurse’s training at Ball Memorial Hospital. A registered nurse, she retired as a surgical nurse from Caylor-Nickel Hospital in Bluffton with many years of service. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Bluffton.
Surviving, in addition to the two sons here, are another son, John C. Lockwood of Fraser, Colorado; a sister, Mrs. James (Joyce) Parks of Florida, and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Lockwood was cremated. Her family will be receiving friends at Thoma-Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home Saturday, Dec. 6, from noon until 3 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m., with Pastor Gary Aupperle presiding. The cremains will be interred at I.O.O.F. cemetery in Dunkirk following the memorial service.
Preferred memorials to Byron Health Care Center.

Darrell A. Schneider, 52
A former Bluffton resident, Darrell A. Schneider, 52, of Quincy, Illinois, died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at his home.
He was born Feb. 1, 1951, in Bluffton to Ronald and Betty Crawford Schneider, who survive at Hartford City.
His marriage was on May 7, 1986, in Hannibal, Missouri, to Kathy Bowen, who survives.
Mr. Schneider was a truck driver and most recently had worked for Brown’s Cross Country of Hannibal for the past 15 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving in addition to wife and parents, are two sons, Richard Schneider of Bluffton and Mike Maas of Quincy, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Mark (Rebecca) White of South Bend, Peggy Stewart of Zanesville, and Mrs, James (Tammy) Blair of Quincy, Ill.; one brother, Tony Schneider of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Ronda) Frantz of Ossian and Mrs. Cecil (Mary) Fredericks of Tracy City, Tenn.; a grandfather, Ora Crawford of Hartford City; five grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral home at Quincy, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Kurt Hartrich, O.F.M.. officiating. Interment will be in Greenmount cemetery at Quincy.
Memorials to Regina and Rissa Schneider’s Education Fund.

Haskell H. Addington, 83 — Rites Pending
A resident of rural Geneva in Wells County, Haskell H. Addington, 83, died at 11:03 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Funeral rites are pending at Goodwin Memorial Chapel.

Harold E. Archbold, 85 -- Rites Pending
Arrangements are pending at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Homes, Ossian, for Harold E. Archbold, 85, who died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Ossian Health Care.

Robert Dale Minnich, 71
Former Wells County resident Robert Dale “Bob” Minnich, 71, died at his residence in Arizona on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003.
He was a brother of Catherine Crosby and Nancy Thompson of rural Poneto.
Born March 28, 1932, to John and Margaret Starr Minnich of rural Wells County, he was a 1950 graduate of Chester Center High School. He served in the armed forces and later married Edith Scott, who survives.
Also surviving in addition to the wife and the two Wells County sisters, are a son, William, in South Dakota, a daughter, Carol Juinto, in Scottsdale, Arizona; a brother, Roger, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister.
The body was cremated.

John C. Strobel, 87
Grandfather of Mark Denny of Bluffton, John C. Strobel, 87, of Fort Wayne, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Fort Wayne.
Born Dec. 21, 1915, in Victoria, Michigan, he graduated from the University of Minnesota, and he lived in Garrett for 29 years. He was a retired U.S. Navy commander who served as a Navy pilot and aviation instructor during World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Strobel was a senior draftsman for Tokheim, where he retired in 1982.
He was a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church at Tulsa, Oklahoma; the Polish National Alliance, F.O.E., the Naval Retired Officers Association and a life member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion, Garrett.
Surviving are his wife Beatrice Strobel, of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Grace T. Denny of Fort Wayne and Cynthia Joy Strobel of Sedona, Ariz.; a stepson, Wayne Tarczyk, of Sapulpa, Okla.; a sister, Laura Lansing-Jones of New Harmony, Utah; seven grandchildren including the one in Bluffton, and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Iris Anders Sebree and Regina Betlinski, and a brother, Edward Strobel.
Services were this morning at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garrett, following visitation Tuesday at the Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home. Burial was at Calvary cemetery at Garrett, with military rites following mass at the church.

Violet Maxine Reid, 85
Services for Violet Maxine Reid, 85, of Bluffton, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home in Bluffton. Mrs. Reid died at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26 at Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center after having been in failing health the past five years,
Born in Downs, Kansas on July 29, 1918 to Albert R. and Laura Alice Pearson Ray, she married J. Paul Reid on April 21, 1935 in St. Joseph, Mo.; he died Aug. 4, 1999. She attended Greenville College and moved to Bluffton in 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Bluffton, where she was involved in several ladies’ groups.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William (Naomi) Halsey of Huntington; a son, John David Reid of Aurora, Colo.; three sisters, Julia Reed of Olathe, Kan., Lorene Kautz of Independence, Mo., and Pauline Russell of Ochelata, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The services Sunday will be officiated by Pastor Larry Sheets, with burial in the Elm Grove cemetery. Preferred memorials to the church.

Marcella I. Iliff, 85
Marcella I. Iliff, 85, of Bluffton, died at 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27 at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 15, 1918 in Bryant to William Hayward and Ida Ann Miller Betz, she married Howard Iliff on Oct. 16, 1938 in Muncie; he died Aug. 21, 1968. A graduate of Hartford Twp. School in Adams County, she lived most of her life in Adams and Jay counties, working at home on their farm and at Economy Printing in Berne. She moved to Bluffton nine years ago and was a member of the Fellowship Missionary Church in Fort Wayne, and a past member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary.
She is survived by six daughters, Joyce Iliff of Decatur, Mrs. Walt (Jan) Lewis of Gaston, Mrs. Mike (Jerry) Sullivan of Warner-Robin, Ga., Mrs. Larry (Joann) Strickler of Fishers, Mrs. Lester (Dr. Julia) Bickel of Warren, and June Smith of Jamaica, N.Y.; a brother, William Betz of Portland; 12 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Vergena Baumgartner.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Monday, which will begin at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David DeSelm officiating. Burial will be in the Gravel Hill cemetery in Bryant. Preferred memorials to the church.

Bladen Dominik Rapp, Infant
The grandchild of a Bluffton woman, Bladen Dominik Rapp, was stillborn Thursday, Nov. 27 at the Adams County Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
Survivors include the parents, Paul Rapp and Kristina Clark, both of Decatur; a brother, Matthew Rapp of Decatur; maternal grandmother Jeanne Clark of Bluffton and the maternal great-grandmother, Shirley Ehret of Bluffton; paternal grandparents, Michael and Carla Rapp of Decatur.; and paternal great-grandparents Phyllis Rapp and Calvin Smitley of Decatur.
Private services were held. Arrangements were handled by the Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home in Decatur.

Wilma L. Durr, 77
The sister of Janice Walker of Poneto, Wilma L. “Billie” Durr, 77, of Kokomo, died at 8:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24 at Manor Care Health Services in Kokomo.
Born in Blackford County on March 13, 1926 to Thomas and Lula Hilton Keagle, she married Charles Durr on May 24, 1946; he died in 1972. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1944 and retired from Delco Electronics after 32 years of service.
Other survivors include two other sisters, Mary Elizabeth Simpson of Columbus and Patricia Lindensmith of Topeka, Kan. She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Services were held today at Ellers Mortuary in Kokomo with burial in the Galveston cemetery.
