Ida Greenwell
LAMAR — Ida Hazel “Tootz” Greenwell, 83, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at St. Mary’s Warrick in Boonville.
She was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church.
Surviving are seven daughters, Linda Maxey of Ferdinand, Sandra Cron, Lisa Kelley and Karen Winchell, all of Lamar, Janet Hermann of Newburgh, Cheryl Shourds of Chrisney and June Russell of Chesterton; three sons, James David of Evansville, Allen of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Paul of Ferdinand; 27 grandchildren, Barry, Todd, Neil, Eric, Kiki, Amber, Allen Michael, Ashligh, April and Amanda Greenwell, Laura and Maria Bieker, Barb Kordes, Becky Gehlhausen, J.R. Maxey, Heather Butler, Candy Gurrola, Scot and Juan Dill, Faith Williams, Wesley and Nathaniel Shourds, Mark and Sean Russell, Tamorah Schweizer, Sasha Greene and Nick O’Nan; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1995, and two daughters, Laura Catherine and Benita Greenwell.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin Catholic Church in Chrisney, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport.
Edward Kneer
Edward F Kneer, 86, of Evansville, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Pine Haven Nursing Home.
He retired from Miller Block Co. He started working there in 1962.
He was a World War II Army veteran and was awarded the Combat Infantry’s Badge and Battle Stars for the Guadalcanal and Bougainville Campaigns. His unit was cited by the president for gallantry while reinforcing the Marine division on Guadalcanal
Surviving are his wife, Anna E.; two sons, Terry and Francis Edward, both of Evansville; two brothers, George Tieman and Frank McFarran, both of Chandler, Ind.; three grandchildren, Brian and Mia Kneer and Lorrie Davis; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Alexander Memorial Park Chapel, the Rev. Mike Pfohl officiating, followed by military services with burial in the cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel and from 10 a.m. to service time at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel.

Byram James
Byram L. James, 81, of Evansville, died of complications of a stroke Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Highland Pointe Healthcare.
He retired after 19 years with Whirlpool Corp. He had been the Center Township assessor from 1958 to 1962.
He was a World War II veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114.
He was a member, served as an usher and was on the council at St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ.
He was a member and had held local, state and national offices in the United Commercial Travelers.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Nancy (Smith); a daughter, Debra Brakie of Evansville; two sons, Phillip of Evansville and Allan of Newburgh; four grandchildren; Jeff and Kevin James and Chris and Wendy Brakie; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Browning Funeral Home, the Rev. Dan Schroeder officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Betty Halsey
Betty J. Halsey, 67, of Evansville, died of complications of diabetes Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Holiday Health Care.
She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Northside Civitan Club.
She enjoyed sewing and antiquing.
Surviving are three daughters, Julie DeSmith of Ellettsville, Ind., Jennie Ashley of Riverside, Calif., and Sallie Boyer of Evansville; a son, Craig of Evansville; her mother, Bernice Gordon of Indianapolis; and six grandchildren, Alaina Halsey, Brian and Courtney DeSmith, Sean Ashley and Cade and Korinne Boyer. Her husband of 32 years, Dr. Robert C., died in 1994.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. William Caple officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends may call for 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Myrtle Hert Jr.
Myrtle Hert Jr., 76, of Evansville, died of complications of diabetes Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at his home.
He had worked for Zenith Corp. as a machine operator and cabinetmaker.
He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the Pentecostal Prayer Center.
Surviving are a daughter, Norma Wagner of Evansville; two sons, Alan of Evansville and Thomas of Montgomery, Ala.; two sisters, Stella Raymond and Barbara Moffett, both of Evansville; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
His wife, Fronda (Goodloe), died in 1970.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, the Rev. Eugene Hall officiating, with burial in Locust Hill cemetery.

Sondra Martin
BOONVILLE — Sondra L. Martin, 53, died of cancer Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at her home in Middleburg, Fla.
She was a graduate of Boonville High School, enrolled citizen of the Southern Cherokee Nation, a member of the Arbor Society, a Protestant and active in wildlife preservation.
Surviving are her husband, Jackson; two daughters, Linda Crawford of Middleburg and Melissa Cleek of Poseyville; a son, Christopher Camp of Boonville; her mother, Lela Beal of Newburgh; two sisters, Teresa Underhill of Chandler and Martha Smith of Newburgh; a brother, David Beal of Newburgh; seven grandchildren, Karessa, Logan, Zackery and Leah Camp, and Rachel, Rebecca and Curtis Cleek; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel, with Native American memorial graveside services pending.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Helen Merkley
ST. ANTHONY — Helen I. Merkley, 83, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
She was a registered nurse and had worked for Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center and at Heritage House in Jasper. After retiring, she worked in the family business, the Merkley Variety Service.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Blessed Virgin Sodality and St. Anthony Community Center and Senior Citizens. She was former president of St. Anthony American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are three daughters, Noreida Paulin of Bristow, Janet Quante of Ferdinand and Mary Jane Jenkins of Dale; four sons, Jerry and John, both of Jasper, and Leo Jr. and George, both of St. Anthony; a sister, Earlene Recker of Jasper; 22 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Leo F., died in 1995.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial in Fairview cemetery in Jasper.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home Downtown Chapel in Jasper, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and at 7 p.m.
Dorothy Hunter
WASHINGTON — Dorothy Grace Hunter, 83, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Daviess Community Hospital.
She was a graduate of Glendale High School.
She was a member of St. Simon Catholic Church and Alpha Omega Chi.
Surviving are a daughter, Sarah Doyle of Indianapolis; four sons, Steven of San Diego, David and Mike, both of Washington, and Tim of Martinsville; a sister, Emogene Clark of Washington; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Tuesday at St. Simon Catholic Church, with burial in St. John’s cemetery.

Nola Huffman
ROCKPORT — Nola Huffman, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2000, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
She was a member of Bethel Christian Center in Reo.
Surviving are a daughter, Hiwana Greene of Rockport; a son. Leon of Tell City; two brothers, Herrel Haynes of Evansville and Darrel Haynes of Richland City; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home, with burial in Midway cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Nelson Weisman
OTWELL — Nelson H. Weisman, 86, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.
He had been a Pike County farmer and was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Joyce Lee of Velpen; two sons, Donald of Columbia, S.C., and James of Otwell; and five granddaughters, Dawn, Julie, Stefanie, Lisa and Beth; and a great-granddaughter.
His wife, Freda S. (Himsel), died in 1998.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.
