Jewell Larkins
OWENSVILLE — Jewell Mae Larkins, 78, died of congestive heart failure Sunday, March 4, 2001, at New Harmonie Healthcare.
She retired from the South Gibson School Corp. and was a member of Maumee General Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Sondra Krabel of Charleston, Ill., and Brenda Dawson of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Cody D. of Owensboro, Ky., and Jody V. of Madison; a sister, Mary L. Williams of Poseyville; a brother, Kenneth Wilson of Newburgh; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband, Donald, died in 1962.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holder Funeral Home, with burial in Maumee cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Robert Smith
BICKNELL — Robert E. Smith, 76, died of complications of cancer Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
He retired as a yard crew member after 40 years with the Penn Central Railroad. He was a member of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and Bicknell French Club. He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3190.
Surviving are a daughter, Patty White of Bicknell; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Lindsey White. His wife, Zelma, died in 1990.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Wednesday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, with burial in Bicknell Memorial cemetery, with military rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McClure Funeral Home Bicknell Chapel.
Dessie Griffith
PETERSBURG — Dessie Mae Griffith, 55, died of cancer Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
She worked as a caregiver for the elderly. She attended Alford United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, James; three daughters, Allison Bell and Christine Scales, both of Petersburg, and Jodie Dawn Huntsman of Hiram, Ga.; six sisters, Phyllis Lee and Doris Edrington, both of Oakland City, Barbara Lindauer of Winslow, Virginia Goddard of Somerville, Shirley Sweigert of Berlin, N.J., and Catherine Ringler of Evansville; and seven grandchildren, Michael, Libby and Josaline Bell, B.J. Scales, Justin and Chase Eaton and Samantha Dawn Huntsman.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Bonnie Hill
Bonnie Jean Hill, 62, of Newburgh, died of heart failure Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital.
She was an accomplished seamstress and worked for Hancock Fabrics.
She was a member of the Washington (Ind.) Central Christian Church and Delta Theta Tau Sorority in Washington and in Danville, Ill.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, James A.; two daughters, Lisa Ann Williams of North Little Rock, Ark., and Darla Jan Minnis of Newburgh; a son, J. Brent of Evansville; her father, Norman N. Jones of Davenport, Fla.; a brother, Larry N. Jones of Haines City, Fla.; six grandchildren, Shawn and Melissa Minnis, Jason and Lauren Williams and Abbey and Nathaniel Hill; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m . Wednesday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. James Payton officiating, with entombment in St. Joseph cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Nina Howlett-Busby
Nina (Hoover) Howlett-Busby, 92, of Evansville, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at Angel River Health & Rehabilitation.
She was a member of Shilo Methodist Church in Horsebranch, Ky.
Surviving are a son, Harold of Avada, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Doug, Gary Marc and Jeff Howlett, Jamie Weber, Debbie Johnson, Mary Ellen Hilliard and Brenda Dodson; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Clyde T. Howlett, in 1962, and Letcher Busby, in 1985, and a son, Clyde W. Howlett, in 1996.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, Gary Howlett officiating, with burial in Park Lawn cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Helen McCarter
Helen Josephine “Jo” McCarter, 81, formerly of Evansville, died of complications of a stroke Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Oak Village Nursing Home in Oaktown, Ind.
She was a teacher.
She was a graduate of Oaktown High School and Indiana State University.
She was a member of Oaktown Christian Church and the Christian Fellowship Church in Evansville.
Surviving are her husband, William M. “Mac”; a daughter, Sara Jane Hall of Oaktown; two sons, James of Atlanta and Kevin of Chicago; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Tuesday at Oaktown (Ind.) Christian Church, with burial in Oaktown cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gordon E. Utt Funeral Home Oaktown Chapel and from noon to service time at the church.

Frank Peck
Frank Hillyard Peck, 93, of Evansville, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Healthsouth Tri-State Rehabilitation Hospital.
He worked as a mechanic for Southern Indiana Gas & Electric Co., and he retired as a supervisor.
He was a 1925 graduate of Central High School.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a 53-year member of the Reed Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are a sister, Charlotte Newland of Evansville; a grandson, Matt Peck; a great-grandchild; and nieces and a nephew.
His wife of 47 years, Mary (East), died in 1981.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. Terry Flowers officiating, with burial in Centenary Church cemetery.

Laura M. File, 91, formerly of Evansville, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at her home in Terre Haute, Ind.
She was the owner and operator of The Needle’s Eye tailor shop in Town Center Mall.
She was an active 50-year member of the Church of God.
Surviving are two daughters, Doris Goad of Evansville and Priscilla Vandgrift of Terre Haute; two sons, Harold File and Bernard Huffman, both of Evansville; a sister, Mina Pack of Winchester, Ky.; a brother, Earl Carden of Pasadena, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Ruth Nelson, died in 1991.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel, the Revs. Carl Mann II and Woodrow Jackson officiating, with burial in the cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the chapel.

Milton Clutter
Milton W. Clutter, 69, of Evansville, died of heart failure Saturday, March 3, 2001, at his home.
He retired from the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp. and had worked as a salesman for Mac Tools.
He was a Korean War veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2714.
He was a member of the St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Germania Maennerchor, River Bend Association and National Rifle Association.
He was a Boy Scout leader for 10 years.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Melanie Spradley of Evansville; a stepdaughter, Lonna Vela of Evansville; two sons, Michael of Oakland City, Ind., and Jerry of Haubstadt, Ind.; two stepsons, George and David Jeffreys, both of Evansville; eight grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Volkman Funeral Home, with burial pending.

Mickey Smith
PRINCETON — Mickey Dean Smith, 44, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at his home. The Gibson County coroner is investigating the death.
He worked at Potter & Brumfield and the Whirlpool Corp.
He was an Army veteran.
Surviving are a son, Robert Jeremy of Princeton; his parents, Robert V. and Rubye Smith of Princeton; a brother, Aubrey Smith of Princeton; and a niece.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Clark cemetery near Owensville. There will be no visitation at Colvin Funeral Home.
Lois Blakley
PETERSBURG — Lois Blakley, 77, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Wirth Regional Hospital in Oakland City.
She was a member of the
First Pentecostal Church in Oakland City.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Satterfield and Karen S. Calkins, both of Petersburg; a son, Paul E. Farries of Evansville; three sisters, Joyce Buckley of Glezen, Norma Dunn of Ivy and Carol Haycraft of Alford; three brothers, Paul Coleman of Arthur and Lloyd and Jerry Coleman, both of Glezen.
Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. EST today in Martin cemetery in Littles.
