Curtis Cates
Curtis D. Cates, 79, formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Panama City, Fla.
He was a World War II and Korean War veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114 in Evansville.
Surviving are his wife, Mary E.; a daughter, Donna Rubinstein of Ellicott City, Md.; a son, Terry of Ellicott City; and two grandsons, Ryan and Kevin.
Arrangements were handled in Florida.
Jerrel Cotton
Jerrel Schofield Cotton, 71, of Evansville, died of cardiac arrest Sunday, March 4, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
He retired in 1992 after 26 years with Alcoa Warrick Operations. He was a member of the Steelworker Organization of Active Retirees. He was a Korean War Army veteran. He was a member of the Newburgh Moose Lodge and former Boy Scout leader.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Dorothy (Morgan); a son, Jerrel II of Newburgh; seven sisters, Novella Stilwell and Ruth Addleman, both of Evansville, Delores Lowery of New Mexico, Elsie Earls of Francisco, Ind., Elnora Linxwiler of Princeton, Ind., Emma Snow of Elberfeld, Ind., and Francis Scott of Santa Claus, Ind.; a brother, David Frank Gentry of Evansville; three grandchildren, Jessica, Jonathan and Jennifer Cotton; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. David Schwambach officiating, with burial in Providence Church cemetery near Francisco, Ind., with military rites. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Church building fund.
Lillian Russell
Lillian Lucille Russell, 83, of Evansville, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Evansville Protestant Home.
She retired in 1978 after 30 years as a professional and medical correspondent at Parke Davies in Detroit and was a member of the Michigan branch of the American Pharmaceutical Association. She was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and Lambda Kappa Sigma Omecron Graduate Chapter and was listed in Who’s Who in American Women.
Surviving is a cousin who cared for her, Joyce L. White.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Park Lawn cemetery Patrician Chapel, the Rev. Dennis R. Davenport officiating, with burial in the cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the chapel. Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Michael West
Michael Joseph West, 38, of Evansville, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at his home. The Vanderburgh County coroner is investigating his death.
Surviving are a daughter who lived with him, Cameron Michael West; a son, Dylan O’Neill West of Evansville; his mother, Patricia West of Evansville; a sister, Danna Clark of Evansville; two brothers, Stephen Sr. of Clarksville, Tenn., and Stan of Evansville; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. Darren Shruofe officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Robert Johnson
Robert Earl “Bob” Johnson, 64, of Evansville, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, with his wife, Carrie, in a fire at their home.
He was the owner of Johnson’s Remodeling & Home Repair for 25 years and had worked for John J. Epperson and Hopgood Contractors. He also repaired lawnmowers. He was a fisherman, president of the Dirty Dozen CB Club and was known as “Hillbilly.”
Surviving are two daughters, Deborah M. “Dusti” Green of Fort Branch, Ind., and Joyce A. Myers of Evansville; two sons, Dale and Russell “Rusty, ” both of Evansville; three sisters, Juanita Rodighiero of Joliet, Ill., Katherine Shinn of Maceo, Ky., and Evelyn Matthews of Chandler, Ind.; a brother, Jerry L. of Salem, Ind.; a half brother, Donald England; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park, with military rites. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Carrie Johnson
Carrie Elizabeth Johnson, 59, of Evansville, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, with her husband, Bob, in a fire at their home.
She had worked at Big Foot, Jr. Food Mart, Leo’s Bar-B-Q and Tobacco Road.
She was a member of the Dirty Dozen CB Club and known as “Bar-B-Q Gal.”
Surviving are two daughters, Deborah M. “Dusti” Green of Fort Branch, Ind., and Joyce A. Myers of Evansville; two sons, Dale and Russell “Rusty, ” both of Evansville; a sister, LaWanda Watson of Lomita, Calif.; five brothers, George, Carl, Larry and Terry Bruner, all of Evansville, and Jimmy Bruner; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

Edmund Rudzinski
Edmund J. Rudzinski, 51, of Evansville, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at his home. The Vanderburgh County coroner determined death was from natural causes.
He was an Army veteran.
Surviving are three sisters, Barbara Roysdon of Elgin, S.C., Marie Cole of Crown Point, Ind., and Patricia Rudzinski of Posen, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.
Private arrangements are being handled by Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel.
Helen Bickel
Helen (Boink) Bickel, 85, formerly of Evansville, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in Louisville, Ky.
She was a graduate of Memorial High School.
Surviving are a daughter, Madeline Feldman of Louisville; two sons, John R. of Louisville and Bridgeford of Lexington, Ky.; three sisters, Dorothy Schuetter of Bardstown, Ill., Alberta Gutgsell of Mattson, Ill., and Donna Schlachter of Evansville; and eight grandchildren.
Services and burial are pending in Louisville. There will be no visitation at Ziemer Funeral Home.
Bea Earley
Bea Jane Earley, 75, mother of Janet Potter Presson of Evansville, died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Friday, March 2, 2001, at the Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, Ill.
She had been a business woman in the Princeton area.
Also surviving are her husband, Edwin Pratt; three daughters, Nancy Rapp of Princeton, Sally DeGiovanni of Oakton, Va., and Penny Potter Haven of Mason Neck, Va.; four stepdaughters; a son, Fred Potter of Riverside, Ill.; a stepson; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jensen Funeral Home in Princeton, Ill., the Rev. Harold Burkey officiating, burial pending.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Conrad Roe
Conrad L. Roe, 53, of Newburgh, died of complications of cancer Monday, March 5, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
He formerly owned and operated the Evansville Business Journal and the Indiana Journal. He was the director of marketing at Bowen Engineering. He was a member of the Evansville Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce and was a golfer. He attended Abundant Life Community Church in Newburgh.
Surviving are his wife, Debra (Fairchild); two sons, Matthew J. of Tampa, Fla., and Shon C. of Evansville; a stepson, Blake McDivitt at home; his mother, Viola Roe of Evansville; a brother, Richard B. of Evansville; two granddaughters, Amanda and Melissa; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, Monsignor Kenneth R. Knapp and the Rev. Troy Boulware officiating, with entombment in Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a memorial service at 7:45 p.m., and from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the Newburgh chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite chapel.
Francis Jochim
Francis J. Jochim, 82, of Evansville, died of complications of surgery Monday, March 5, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital.
He retired as bindery foreman in 1983 after 42 years with the Krieger Ragsdale Printing Co., and was a charter member of the Evansville Club of Printing House Craftsman Inc. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving with the 3rd Armored Division and recipient of a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a 1937 graduate of Reitz High School.
He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114, honorary life member of Knights of Columbus, and was in the Knights of Columbus Bowling League for 55 years.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Gloria; two sons, Randy of Breckenridge, Texas, and Mark of Evansville; two sisters, Luella Jones of Panama City, Fla., and Magdalina Tabron of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren, Eric, Adam, Matthew, Roxanne and Angie Jochim; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, continuing at 10 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, the Rev. Raymond Brenner officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery, with military rites. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Harold Beebe Sr.
HUNTINGBURG — Harold T. Beebe Sr., 90, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Ind.
He retired from the Southern Railroad as a locomotive engineer and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, the Elks and was a Mason.
Surviving is a son, Harold T. Jr. of New Albany; a sister, Valada V. Stein of New Albany; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His wife, Bertha A. (Spencer), preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany, with burial in Fairmount cemetery in Huntingburg, Ind., at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Kraft Funeral Service in New Albany, with an Elks service at 7 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Kosair Charities in Louisville, Ky.
Ernest Schatz
DECKER — Ernest Schatz, 70, died of complications of a stroke Monday, March 5, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.
He had been a farm hand for Chris Vieck Farms, Schenks and Perdue Farms.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Blaize); two daughters, Georgia Wesley of Vincennes and Joann White of Decker; two sons, Leroy of Decker and Fred of Lawrenceville; two brothers, Charles of Vincennes and Frank of Shelburn; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday in Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Goodwin Funeral Home in Vincennes.
Alice Andry
BIRDSEYE — Alice Andry, 91, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at her home.
She was a member of Birdseye Christian Church.
Surviving are two sons, Cliff and Lugene, both of Birdseye; a sister, Inez of Jeffersonville; a brother, Marvin Eckert of Newburgh; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Everett Andry in 1950, and Homer Andry in 1990.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg, with burial in Birdseye cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
