Irene Coomes
Irene E. Coomes, 95, of Evansville, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at her home.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Surviving are a daughter, JoAnn Coleman of Evansville; three grandchildren, Julie Ann Littlepage, Kim Kinchel and David Mabrey, who helped care for her; and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Damion, died in 1978.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the Rev. Ted Tempel officiating, with burial pending in St. Joseph cemetery.
There will be no visitation at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel.
Jeanette Hall
Jeanette Hall, 61, of Evansville, died of respiratory failure Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Select Specialty Hospital.
She was a waitress at the Darmstadt Inn for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in the county.
Surviving are two daughters, Tina M. Tenbarge and Darla Kell, both of Evansville; a son, Todd of Evansville; four sisters, Wilma Gumbel of St. Philip, Ind., Ilene and Sharon Wassmer, both of Poseyville, Ind., and Imogene Baehl of Evansville; two brothers, Harry Elpers of Armstrong, Ind., and Kenny Elpers of Haubstadt, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Tiffany and Troy Tenbarge, Jessica and Jeremy Kell and Laura, Joshua and Zacheriah Hall.
Her husband of 42 years, Orville, died in 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the county, the Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a memorial service at 5 p.m., at Pierre Funeral Home, and from 10:30 a.m. to service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund.
Clarice Spurlock
Clarice F. Spurlock, 79, formerly of Evansville, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at her home in Jupiter, Fla. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
She worked for the Ashland Oil Co. in Evansville.
There are no immediate survivors. Her husband of 50 years, Arleigh, preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Aycock Funeral Home in Jupiter, Fla., is handling arrangements.
Roger Kleinschmidt
Roger Kleinschmidt, 88, formerly of Evansville, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Carpenters Home Manor in Lakeland, Fla.
He was a marketing manager with Delta Airlines and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, both in Evansville.
He was a graduate of Washington University.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, stationed in Tucson, Ariz.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Cominskey of Seffner, Fla., and Susan Antill of Houma, La.; a son, John Roger Jr. of Fort Thomas, Ky.; and nine grandchildren.
His wife of 42 years, Emmalee, preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Park Lawn Mausoleum, the Rev. Anne Kleinschmidt officiating.
There will be no visitation at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel.
Charles Merchant
Charles R. Merchant, 52, of New Albany, Ohio, son of James R. Merchant of Evansville, died of complications of liver failure Friday, March 30, 2001, at University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
He worked with the Gordon Flesch Co. for 10 years.
He was active in the New Albany community, coached youth league baseball, was a member of the athletic boosters, and was past chairman of the New Albany Charter Commission.
He was a Mason.
Also surviving are his wife of 28 years, Ann; a son, Chad at home; a sister, Sue Layman of Evansville; a brother, Bob of Indianapolis; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 8 p.m. today at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel in Gahanna, Ohio.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 5 p.m., , at the funeral home.
Dr. Chester Rycroft Jr.
Dr. Chester A. Rycroft Jr., 91, of Evansville, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at his home.
He retired in 1987 from his 52-year family dental practice in Evansville.
He was a 1928 graduate of Central High School, attended Evansville College and graduated in 1936 from the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He served his pedodontic residency at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was a World War II Army veteran, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Dental Corps. He served as the Dental Chief of Staff with the 23rd Station Hospital in the African and European Theaters and was the recipient of a Bronze Star.
He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, the Masons, Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, American and Indiana Dental Associations and the honorary dental society of Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Chester A. Rycroft III of Evansville; a sister, Lillian R. Waitman of Evansville; and a niece.
His wife, Florence, died in 1997.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church, the Revs. Joseph N. Easley and Alton Hawkins officiating, with entombment in Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church endowment fund or a favorite charity.
Clara Bicking
Clara Fern (Lawlace) Bicking, 91, of Evansville, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
In the 1930s, she taught school in Knight Township, and she was a charter member of Eastminister Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her sister, Bernice Rose of Evansville; a brother, Robert Lawlace of Trinity, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Clifford O., died in 1957.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boone Funeral Home, East Chapel, the Rev. Dennis Davenport officiating, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Catherine Kelley
WASHINGTON — Catherine L. Kelley, 73, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center.
She was a member of the Alfordsville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are nieces.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Titzer Funeral Home in Loogootee, with burial in Goodwill cemetery.

William Healy
WASHINGTON — William J. Healy, 82, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Daviess Community Hospital.
He enlisted in the Army in 1939, served as a sergeant in the 3rd Armored Division during World War II, then enlisted in the Air Force, retiring as a master sergeant after 20 years. After retiring he worked at McCord Corp.
He was a member of St. Simon Catholic Church, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are two sisters, Agnes Worland of Washington and Rosemary Malory of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and a brother, James F. of Washington.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Simon Catholic Church, with burial in St. John’s cemetery.
Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 5 p.m. wake service, and from 8 a.m. to service time at Ed Lee Mortuary.
Walter Sollman
PRINCETON — Walter J. Sollman, 82, died of a heart attack Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Ill.
He retired in 1984 as a meat cutter after 42 years with Emge Packing Co.
He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 337th Artillery Blue Devils in North Africa and Italy in four major battles.
He was a life member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Fort Branch, and a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1147 and American Legion Post 25.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Marie; a stepdaughter, Susan Miller of Fisher, Ill.; two stepsons, C. David Stiff of Mount Vernon, Ill., and Stephen W. Stiff of Champaign, Ill.; two sisters, Doris Wildt of Boonville and Hulda Schnautz of Evansville; two brothers, Herman and Herschel, both of Fort Branch; five stepgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, with burial in the church cemetery, with military rites.
