James Day
James D. Day, 83, of Evansville, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital.
He retired from Vanderveer Corp. and from Kenny Kent.
He was a World War II Army veteran, retired from the Indiana National Guard in 1978 and was a 1936 graduate of Reitz High School.
He was a member of Lessing Lodge, Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine and Swords of Bunker Hill.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Baremore of Charleston, S.C.; a son, David of Evansville; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, in 1991, and a daughter, Donna Bass, in 1998.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at AlexanderFuneral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Ray Harper officiating, with entombment in Oak Hill Mausoleum. The Vanderburg County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 5:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Robert Ours
Robert J. Ours, 69, of Evansville, died of a heart attack Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Fairway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He worked as a machine worker at Evansville Plating and at Hesmer’s Foods.
He was a an Army Korean War veteran, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114 and a Disabled American Veteran.
Surviving are three daughters, Deborah DeVors of Granite City, Ill., and Deana McConnell and Elaine Boyd, both of Henderson, Ky.;a son, Robert of Evansville; six grandchildren, Sherri, Jennifer and Bradley DeVors, and Cory, Brennen and Jackson McConnell; two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Ashlyn DeVors; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Alexander North Chapel, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park, the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club conducting military rites.

Margaret Rowe
Margaret L. Rowe, 91, formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Life Care Center in Michigan City, Ind.
She was a professor of special education at Indiana State University. The Speech and Hearing Department at Indiana State is named after her.
She was a member of the India State Teachers Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Sigma Alpha Iota, Chi Omega, Mental Health Association and a past president of the Speech, Language and Hearing Association of Indiana and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home in Terre Haute, Ind., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Rev. Larry Moran officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery in Evansville.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Anna Vickers
Anna Laura (Furniss) Vickers, 96, of Evansville, died Friday, April 5, 2001 at East Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a homemaker and a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sacramento, Ky.
Surviving are two sons, Henry and Russell Vickers, both of Evansville; two nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Russell, in 1938.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home in Sacramento, Ky., the Rev. John Lovelace officiating, with burial in Free Union cemetery in Sacramento.
Friends may call 3 to 7 p.m. today at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel and from noon until service time Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home.
Ruby Williams
Ruby M. Williams, 89, of Evansville, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She was a retired teacher in Washington County, Ind.
She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution Christopher Harrison Chapter, the Washington County Historic Society and St. Mark’s United Church of Christ.
She was Citizen of the Year in Salem.
Surviving are a daughter, Kay Carroll of Evansville; a son, James of Evansville; nine grandchildren, Rhonda Dest, Jody Kissel, Lori Bryant, Sandra Danks, Jaime Williams, Robin Lannert, Mike Goen and Josh and Alex Williams; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lebert, and a daughter, Judy Goen, in 1997.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Kimron Reising officiating, with burial in Crown Hill cemetery in Salem.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lorean Samples
Lorean Samples, 90, of Evansville, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Holiday Health Care.
She was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church and a member of the Priscilla Class at the church.
Surviving are four daughters, Bettye Fritz, Deanna Clayton, Debra Taylor and Carolyn SueSamples, all of Evansville; a sister, Mildred Williams; a brother, Robert Perigo of Boonville, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Cathy Winterheimer, Cindy Zeller, Connie Brantley, Mary Ann Nichols, Sarah Hunt, Katie Taylor and Amanda and Nicholas Bosecker; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Joe Mitchell officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Jenilee West
Jenilee C. West, 87, of Evansville, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She was formerly of Petersburg, Ind., where she was retired as a rural mail carrier in 1974.
She was also a member of Eastern Star Church.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Linda Jane Jones of Evansville; two sisters, Margaret Williamson and Helen Chumbley, both of Evansville; a stepgranddaughter, Tina Carwile; a niece, Nancy Chumbley of Evansville; and two step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in 1969.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, the Rev. Frank McCandless officiating, with burial in Adkinson Chapel cemetery.

Wanda Meadows
Wanda Lee Meadows, 94, of Muncie, Ind., formerly of Evansville, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
She was a teacher, and taught the first grade in Evansville from 1944 to 1969.
She was a member of the OES Chapter, University of Evansville Alumni Association and the Retired Indiana Teachers Association.
Surviving are a son, James Meadows of Muncie, Ind.; six grandchildren, Lynn Stucker, Bruce, Leslie, Allison and Samantha Meadows and Clinton Bench; and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian, and a son, Donnie Lee
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in The Meeks Mortuary in Muncie, with burial in Parklawn cemetery.

Mary Drach
FERDINAND — Mary C. Drach, 82, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.
She retired from Ferdinand Furniture and was a member of Ferdinand Daughters of Isabella, American Legion Auxiliary Post 124 and Ferdinand Senior Citizens.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Watkins of Washington, and Cathy Gonzales of Oakland City; four sons, Dave and Kenneth, both of Ferdinand, Frederick of Portland, Ore., and Richard of Mobile, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony in 1981.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. There will be a parish prayer service at the church at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by a Daughters of Isabella service.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
Christopher Young
BEDFORD — Christopher William Young, 21, died of a chronic degenerative illness Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Hospitality House.
Surviving are his parents, Stephen and Carol of Jasper; and a brother, Andy of Jasper.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Zoar United Methodist Church in Zoar, Ind., the Rev. Wayne Nichols officiating, with burial in Zoar cemetery.
