Dow Apple
JASPER - Dow P. Apple, 90, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Jasper Memorial Hospital. He owned and operated Apple's Shell Service Station from 1946 to 1979, was a World War II veteran, serving in the Okinawa Campaign from 1943 to 1946 and was a member of American Legion Post 147 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 673.
He was a graduate of French Lick Springs Valley High School, a 1932 graduate of DePauw University with a degree in business and was a member of the university alumni club and Sigma Nu Fraternity Alumni Association.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, St. Vincent De Paul Society, 4th-degree Knight of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Police and charter member of Jasper Kiwanis Club.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes (Lorey); a daughter, Nancy Larkin of Jasper; a son, Jerry of Jasper; two brothers, William H. of Bloomington and Dr. Ed R. of Salem; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in Fairview cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel, with a rosary at 4 p.m.

Rev. Raymond Biddle
PETERSBURG - The Rev. Raymond A. Biddle, 94, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Petersburg Health Care.
He had worked for Clay Products Co. in Sandusky, Ohio, Champion Spark Plug Co. in Toledo, Ohio, then attended Eastern Baptist Seminary in Philadelphia, and was ordained in 1934 at Calvary Baptist Tabernacle in Sandusky. He served as a missionary in Hawaii, and was the pastor in churches in Ohio, Michigan and Alabama. After retiring in 1977, he continued to serve churches in a part-time capacity completing more than 60 years in the ministry.
He had served as a sergeant in the National Guard and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton.
Surviving are two sons, Calvin of Petersburg and Allen of Omaha, Neb.; three stepchildren; three sisters, Eunice Chase of North Port, Fla., and Doris White and his twin sister, Ruth Reser Bateman, both of Sandusky; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Jesse Rowena (Meisener), and his second wife of 11 years, Agnes Claire Howell.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Forest Hill cemetery in Birmingham, Ala.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Frances Overton
NEW HARMONY - Frances I. (Owens) Overton, 85, of Sylmar, Calif., formerly of New Harmony, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Sylmar.
Surviving are a daughter, Marcella Messner of Sylmar; a son, Richard of Sylmar; five grandchildren, Kandle Overton, Amberly Cole, Jennifer Clark, Jeremy Clifford and Ethan Messner; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Earl, died in 1988.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Werry Funeral Home New Harmony Chapel, with burial in Maple Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Alene Shelton
Alene Mackey Shelton, 86, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Evansville and Lexington, Ky., died Friday, July 13, 2001, in Colorado.
She was a life member of Rosemont Baptist Church in Lexington.
Surviving are a daughter, Marilinjo Singleton of Colorado Springs; a son, Kenneth Lawrence of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Kenneth Lindle, died in 1995.
Family memorial services will be at Swan-Law Memorial Chapel in Colorado Springs, the Rev. David Woods officiating, with burial in Pythian Ridge cemetery in Sturgis, Ky.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice of Colorado Springs or her church.
Gilbert Firzgerald
Gilbert C. Fitzgerald, 53, of Evansville, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital of respiratory failure.
He worked for Koch Label Co. for 10 years, was a 1966 Central High School graduate, attended Lockyear Business College and was a member of the Owls.
He was a bowler and enjoyed playing clabber.
Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Cathy; two daughters, Crystal and Brenda Fitzgerald, both of Evansville; two stepdaughters, Michelle Williams and Donna Pfingston, both of Evansville; a sister, Sandy Thomas of Evansville; four grandchildren, Justin, Catie, Catrina and Bobby; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Browning Funeral Home. The body will be cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Juanita Ellard
Juanita (Robertson) Ellard, 79, of Boise, Idaho, formerly of Evansville, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, in Boise. She was a dialysis patient.
She worked at the Cigar Factory during World War II and owned and operated Ellard's Cafe in the 1950s in Evansville.
Surviving are two sons, Michael and Tom, both of Boise; a stepson, Gary of Evansville; a sister, Sharon F. Egnew of Evansville; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Able 'Bud, - died in 1994.
Arrangements were handled by Riverside Funeral Services in Boise.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
Kenneth Hutcheson
Kenneth R. Hutcheson, 59, of Logansport, Ind., formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis of heart failure.
He was the sales manager at the Mike Anderson Automobile Dealership.
He was active in the Logansport community, vice chairman and president of the Cass County United Way board, president of the Logansport/Case County Chamber of Commerce, president and chairman of the Economic Development Foundation, member of the board of directors of Logansport Savings Bank, and in 1986 was named Citizen of the Year by the National Bank of Logansport.
In 1983, he coordinated the campaign to collect and display railroad memorabilia in the Iron Horse Museum and also was the originator and chairman of the first Heritage Preservation Gala.
Surviving are his wife, Betty J. 'B.J.' (Magnus); a son, Craig of Muncie, Ind.; two brothers, Francis Marion and Les, both of Henderson, Ky.; and nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be private.
Kroeger Funeral Home in Logansport is handling arrangements.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the home of Marion and June Hutcheson in Henderson.

Rev. John Pate
The Rev. John F. 'Jack' Pate, 77, of LeHigh Acres, Fla., formerly of Evansville, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at East Point Hospital in LeHigh Acres of complications of diabetes and heart disease.
He worked at Whirlpool Corp. as a purchasing agent before going into the ministry full-time. He had been the pastor of Northeast Park Baptist Church and director of missions in northwestern Indiana and eastern Kentucky.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the European Theater, and a recipient of a Bronze Star.
He received his bachelor of science degree in business from Indiana University and his master's in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Virginia (Harris); three daughters, Joyce Jenkins of Irving, Texas, Linda Logan of Fort Worth and Sharon Smith of Campbellsville, Ky.; a son, Greg of Kingwood, Texas; three sisters, June Clendenen and Juanita Hamm of Lafayette, Ind., and Joann Frank of New Salisbury, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Northeast Park Baptist Church in Evansville, the Rev. Gerald Peeples officiating, with burial pending.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
William Harris
William E. 'Bill' Harris, 76, of Miami, formerly of Evansville, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in Miami of pneumonia.
He retired in 1985 after 35 years as a pilot for Delta Airlines.
He attended Reitz High School in Evansville and was the youngest person to receive a pilot's license in Evansville at the age of 16.
He was a World War II Marine Corps pilot and was decorated for saving the lives of his crew when he landed a plane with an unexploded bomb in the bay.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty (Winiger); three sons, Michael of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Patrick of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mark of Downers Grove, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A military service and burial are pending at Arlington National cemetery in Virginia. Stanfill Funeral Home in Miami is handling the arrangements.
Virginia Tenbarge
Virginia C. Tenbarge, 83, of Evansville, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center of complications of ovarian cancer.
She was a Christian.
Surviving are a daughter, Ellen Costner of Evansville; a son, Paul; three grandchildren, Jennifer Housman, Julie Duncan and Todd Tenbarge; and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Edgar Joseph, died in 1982.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev Davie Mills and Ellen Lynch officiating, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park.
