Eugene Rode
Eugene A. 'Gene' Rode, 81, of Evansville, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Regina Continuing Care.
He retired from inventory control at Lensing Wholesalers.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Verona Rode and Laura Wagner, both of Evansville; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the pastoral team officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor or Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Infant Gary Outlaw Jr.
Infant Gary Ray Outlaw Jr., 3-day-old son of Jacqueline (Miller) Barbry and Gary Ray Outlaw Sr. of Evansville, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center from complications of a premature birth.
Also surviving are a sister, Jessica King of Evansville; a brother, Christopher Brown of Evansville; and his grandmother, Magdalene Outlaw of Evansville.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery, the Rev. Steve Hale officiating.
There will be no public visitation at Boone Funeral Home Downtown Chapel.
David Diehm
David A. Diehm, 64, of Evansville, died Friday, July 27, 2001, while on vacation at Heritage Lake, Ind., of a massive heart attack.
He graduated from Shortridge High School and Butler University.
He was a commercial casualty insurance agent from 1964 to 1999, working at Heston Insurance Agency, Evansville Insurance Group and Citizens Insurance Group.
He earned the certified insurance counselor designation, and in 1972 he received the Agent of the Year award from the Professional Insurance Association.
He was an active volunteer at the Evansville Rescue Mission, where he worked in the warehouse and was involved in the Thanksgiving food basket distribution. This year, he received the Evansville Rescue Mission Distinguished Volunteer award. He also received the Neighborhood Jewel Award from Operation City Beautiful and the Evansville Courier & Press in 1998.
He was a member and deacon of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Carole Diehm; a daughter, Cara Baumgart of Evansville; three sons, Christopher Diehm of Clearwater, Fla., Craig Diehm of Evansville and Clint Diehm of Seattle; a brother, James L. Diehm of Solana Beach, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Christopher, Jessica and Jacob Diehm, and William Diehm, who lived with him.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, the Rev. Thomas Wenig officiating, with burial in Bono cemetery in Bono, Ind., with a committal service at 3 p.m.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Evansville Rescue Mission or his church.
Infant Jaden Osborne
Infant Jaden Carol-Lynn Hope Osborne, 6-day-old daughter of Michael and Kristie Osborne, formerly of Evansville, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Oklahoma University Medical Center Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City from complications of a premature birth.
Also surviving are her grandparents, Caroline Osborne of Melbourne, Fla., Adam and Karen Osborne of Lexington Park, Md., and Ron and Carol Hull of Lake Wales, Fla.; and great-grandparents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Randy Hopkins officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery, with a private committal service.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Lillian Birkle
JASPER - Lillian L. (Meyer) Birkle, 89, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Northwood Good Samaritan Nursing Center.
She operated Lillian's Flower Craft Shop, was a sales representative for Stanley Home Products for 43 years, represented Avon Products, was a past manager of Value Dress Shop and worked at the Ben Franklin Store and the former Gerbo Bowling Lanes.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Achievement Friends Club and Trinity United Church of Christ.
Surviving are two sons, James Birkle of Jasper and Dennis Birkle of Middlebury; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendolin J. Birkle, in 1996, and a son, Norman Birkle.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Church of Christ, with burial in Fairview cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, with memorial services at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Agnes LaCoste
VINCENNES - Agnes L. (Leech) LaCoste, 100, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Lodge of the Wabash.
She had worked for Pantheon Theater.
She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are three nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel LaCoste, in 1970, and a son.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Goodwin Family Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview cemetery.

Orval Catt
SHOALS - Orval E. Catt, 89, formerly of Shoals, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center in French Lick.
He retired from U.S. Gypson after 18 years and had worked in coal mining, saw mills, the railroads and farming.
He was a member of French Lick Church of Christ.
Surviving are two daughters, Alma Jean Apple and Mary Jane Collins, both of French Lick; a son, Kenneth S. Catt of French Lick; two sisters, Ruth French of Shoals and Martha Lee Hayes of Indianapolis; a brother, Loren Catt of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah E. (Harner) Catt, in 1994; and a son, John Stanley Catt.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals, with burial in Pleasant Valley cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Loraine Dickman
JASPER - Loraine R. Dickman, 80, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center.
He worked at Tell City Furniture Company and retired from Kimball International in 1988 after 40 years.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in Jasper, the Knights of Columbus, Loyal Order of Moose 1424 in Tell City, the Isaac Walton League and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He enjoyed fishing, card playing and baseball, having played for the Tell City Grays.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary (Holman) Dickman; a daughter, Darla J. Sallee of Bloomington; a son, R. Edward Dickman of Tell City; two stepdaughters, Ardella Foster of Tupelo, Miss., and Deborah Mulzer of Tell City; a stepson, Michael Smith of Winslow; two brothers, Robert Dickman of Jasper and George Dickman of Noblesville; nine grandchildren, Anita and Nicole Sallee, Michelle Ayers, Jill Burris, Neal, Andrew, Tyler and Grant Dickman and Dusty Burchett; six stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Dilger Dickman.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City, with burial in Fairview cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with memorial services at 6:30 p.m., and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Huber Funeral Home Tell City Chapel.

Robert Thomas
VINCENNES - Robert Kenneth Thomas, 83, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis of respiratory failure.
He retired as a supervisor from Hamilton Glass Co. after 30 years.
He was a past member of the Gideons and was a member of the American Legion and Ridgecrest Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir.
He served four years in the Army Air Corp as a staff sergeant in the European Theater and North Africa during World War II.
He enjoyed gardening, music and poetry.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mae Thomas; three daughters, Barbara Thomas of Indianapolis, Beverly Osborn of Vincennes and Bonnie Pawlitz of St. Louis; a son, Ron Thomas of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, with private burial in Memorial Park cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to service time at the church. Goodwin Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
