Gloria Steinmetz
Gloria J. Steinmetz, 73, of Evansville, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at McCurdy Residential Center of cancer.
She retired in 1991 from the Stepping Stone of Southwestern Indiana Mental Health Center and had worked with the State Board of Health as a nursing home surveyor in Indianapolis for 17 years.
She was a 1951 graduate of Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a member of the Albright United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Jo Ann Harrawood and Linda Heldt, both of Evansville; nieces and a nephew.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Albright United Methodist Church, the Rev. Jo Olsen officiating. There will be no visitation at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association.
Sister Lucille O’Dowd
Sister Lucille (Nora) O’Dowd, 93, of Evansville, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Seton Residence.
She joined the Daughters of Charity at St. Joseph Provincial House in Emmitsburg, Md. She worked with children in children’s homes and in primary grades of schools. She had served as an office receptionist and as Sacristan at St. Thomas Hospital Chapel in Nashville, Tenn. She retired to Seton Residence in Evansville in 1986.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Seton Residence Chapel, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Daughter of Charity Foundation.
John Trice Jr.
John Gilbert Trice Jr., 69, brother of Stanley Trice of Evansville, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at his home in Hopkinsville, Ky., of an apparent heart attack.
He worked for more than 30 years for Cayce Yost, delivering and repairing furniture and was a self-employed vegetable gardner.
He was an Army veteran.
He was a member of Pleasant Green C.M.E. Church.
Surviving are his wife, Hattie (Bronaugh); seven daughters, Alice Taylor and Denise Catlett, both of Hopkinsville, Paulette Sebree and Ann Featherson, both of Virginia Beach, Va., Regina Jones of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Debbie Lester of Nashville, Tenn., and Monica Prather of Ripley, Miss.; four sons, Aaron Acree and John Trice, both of Hopkinsville, and Dennis and Kenneth Trice, both of Paducah, Ky.; two brothers, Charlie of Park Forest, Ill., and Logan of Hopkinsville; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Street Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, with burial in Cave Spring cemetery in Hopkinsville.
Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Gamble Funeral Home in Hopkinsville.
Henry Germann
Henry L. Germann, 83, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Welborn Hospital Continuing Care.
He retired in 1983 from the data processing department after 40 years with Faultless Caster and had worked for Vulcan Plow Co.
He mowed along the Lloyd Expressway since it opened and was known as the “Lawnmower Man.”
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving with the 95th Infantry Division.
He had attended Evansville College and Lockyear Business College.
He was a charter member and had been honored for his dedication at St. John’s East United Church of Christ. He received the neighborhood Jewel Award from Operation City Beautiful.
He was a member of the Faultless Caster 20-year Club and its golf league.
Surviving are his wife, Esther L. (Gerichs); a daughter, Karen L. Schlosser of Plymount, Ind.; a son, Gary S. of Valparaiso, Ind.; and six grandchildren, Mark, David, Matthew and Sarah Germann and Amee and Lori Schlosser.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Park Lawn cemetery, the Rev. Daniel Kincaid officiating.
Friends may call from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s East United Church of Christ, with a memorial service at 7 p.m.
Alexander Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Auburn Daugherty
Auburn Lowell “Buster” Daugherty, 75, of Beaver Dam, Ky., father of Trena Willoughby, Sherlene Woolen and Sue Elms Baugh, all of Evansville, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at his home. He was a hospice patient.
He retired in 1989 from the Tennessee Valley Authorities power plant.
He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Also surviving are a daughter, Paula Flener of Cromwell, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Brenda Vincent of Beaver Dam and Ida Ray Davis of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, Auburn Ladon of Beaver Dam; a stepson, Troy Schroader of Lewisport, Ky.; a sister, Shirell Johnson of Morgantown, Ky.; a brother, Darrell of Cromwell; 23 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Wanda Mae (King), in 1964 and Eva Gay (Smith) in 1998 and a daughter, Mary Diane Bryant Layne, in 1991.
Services will be at 11 a.m Thursday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, Ky., with burial. in Mount Pleasant cemetery in Ohio County, with military rites.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
David Bryant
David Lee Bryant, 77, of Greenville, Ky., father of Dennis Bryant of Evansville, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at the Lakeview Nursing Home in Morgantown, Ky., of complications of a stroke.
He retired in 1985 after 33 years with Wetterau.
He was a World War II veteran and had been a prisoner of war.
Also surviving are his wife of 53 years, Mildred; two sons, Jerry of Beaver Dam, Ky., and Gary of Bowling Green, Ky.; a sister, Mary Kirkman of Elkton, Ky.; a brother, James of Elkton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, Ky., the Rev. Don McGuire officiating, with burial in Cedar Grove cemetery in Todd County.

Henry Mullen
Henry G. “Heinie” Mullen, 88, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.
He retired in 1976 as a salesman from Bunny Bread Bakery and had worked for the Sunbeam Bakery.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific for 37 months, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, including Lisa Anderson, who cared for him.
His wife, Margaret, died in 1986.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Alexander Memorial Park Mausoleum, Revs. Richard Miller and John Thorson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Crosby Brouillette
HUNTINGBURG — Crosby L. Brouillette, 90, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was an accountant and office manager for Chrysler Corp. and was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Marlene Hinson of Huntingburg and Mary Ellen Scott of English; a brother, Fabian of Kankakee, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
His wife, Cecelia (Lambert), preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m, . EST Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 5:30 p.m.
Rufina Oeding
FERDINAND — Rufina A. Oeding, 82, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at her home.
Surviving are her husband, Gregory; a son, John of Ferdinand; two sisters, Lucille Hensley of Ferdinand and Mary Jean Schwinghammer of Huntingburg; two brothers, Lawrence Denning of Ferdinand and Alvin “Cotton” Denning of St. Meinrad; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Thursday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Becher Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Cassondra Small
VINCENNES — Cassondra A. “Cassy” Small, 20, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in Lawrence County on Illinois 33 of an automobile accident.
She had worked as a waitress at Montana Mike’s.
Surviving are her mother, Connie Small of Vincennes; her father and stepmother, James R. and Cathy Small of Winslow; three sisters, Jennifer Freeman and Misty and Amy Small, all of Vincennes; her grandparents, Betty Frederick and James M. Small; and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. EST Thursday at Goodwin Funeral Home. There will be no service.
Esther Woods
OAKLAND CITY — Esther Woods, 98, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the Loogootee Nursing Center.
During World War II, she worked at Republic Aviation in Evansville building P-47s.
She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and attended the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Eula Fern Corn of Oakland City and Reba Burton of Canton, Ill.; a son, James B. of Loogootee; a sister, Arlene Cato of Petersburg; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Virgil, died in 1986.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home, with burial in Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Pike County.
