Ruth Winters
Ruth E. Winters, 83, of Evansville, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She had been a resident of CORE Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for many years.
Surviving are a son, Gilbert of Fenton, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Terry, Christina and Chrisphere Winters, Kerrie Baldridge and Dennis and Debbie Kanelly; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending. There will be no visitation at Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel.
Mary Ray
Mary Ann Ray, 81, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at North Park Nursing Center. She was a 1938 gradu-ate of Lincoln
High School in Vincennes. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic minister at St. Mary Catholic Church.
She had been president of St. Joseph Catholic School PTA and St. Ann’s Altar Society. She was a member of the Clabber Club at St. Mary Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband of 23 years, John; four daughters, Pat Sauer and Fran Bartley, both of Evansville, Beth McCarty of Aurora, Ill., and Sue Harl of Elizabethtown, Ill.; three sons, Harry McCarty of Carbondale, Ill., James Morris Ray of Powder Springs, Ga., and Glenn Ray of Evansville; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her first husband, Patrick McCarty, died in 1975.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Browning Funeral Home, continuing at 10 a.m. Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the Rev. Eugene Schmitt officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a memorial service at 6 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan B. Komen Foundation or Holy Redeemer Catholic Church building fund.
Kenneth Deutsch
Kenneth P. Deutsch, 74, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of heart failure. He retired
from the L&N; Railroad, worked as a clerk with the C&EI; Railroad and was general chairman with the Railroad Union for 12 years.
During World War II, he served in the Army as a sergeant in the 66th Division in Normandy and was on the SS Leopoldville when it was sunk. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart.
He was a 1944 graduate of Reitz High School and a member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ on Michigan Street.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Bernice (Matherley); a daughter, Connie Hara of Evansville; a son, Donald of Evansville; two brothers, Charles of Evansville and Richard of California; and a grandson, John Deutsch.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, Louis H. Dorsch officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ruth Hudson
Ruth A. Hudson, 39, of Newburgh, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of complications of heart surgery.
Surviving are her mother, Rita Hudson of Newburgh; three sisters, Janice O’Brian of Evansville, Carol Rumer of Vincennes, Ind., and Susie Hudson of Newburgh; five brothers, Patrick Hudson of Folsomville, Ind., Tim Hudson of Mount Vernon, Ind., Bill and Nick Hudson, both of Newburgh, and Jerome Hudson of Chandler, Ind.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 7 p.m. today at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, the Rev. Tim Judd officiating. The body will be cremated.

Fern Peck
Fern Loraine Peck, 79, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Good Samaritan Home of heart failure. She
retired as secretary of the maternity ward at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.
She was a graduate of Bosse High School and member of the Keck Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Peck; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, Herman A., died in 1965.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Mary Hendrickson officiating, with burial in Park lawn cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Dorothy Riggs
Dorothy Riggs, 82, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at her home. She had been a nurse at Boehne Hospital and
worked for George Koch Sons during World War II.
She was a 1936 graduate of Central High School and a member of the First Christian Church in Calhoun, Ky.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law who cared for her, Kathleen and David Klueg of Evansville; a son, Stephan W. of South Dakota; two sisters, Betty Lou Mosconi of New York, and Susan Eli of Evansville; two brothers, Oren Sterchi of Houston and Joe Sterchi of Evansville; seven grandchildren, Steve, Kim and Mandy Marx, Andrew and Justin Klueg and Kolleen and J. Curl; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, William T., died in 1992.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Riggs cemetery in Calhoun, Ky.

Raymond Dowdy
Raymond Dowdy, 70, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at his home of liver disease. He retired from Hart’s Bat
tery Shop and was a member of Labor Union 561.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Earllean; two daughters, Denise Sanford of Evansville and Myra Boles of Harrisburg, Ill.; two sons, Phillip Ray and Eric, both of Evansville; two sisters, Betty Baertchi of Illinois, and Yvonda Winkler of Paducah, Ky.; a brother, Archie of Paducah; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Simpson Meyer Funeral Home, the Rev. Clark Burns officiating, the body will be cremated.

Larry Grimes
Larry “Doc” Grimes, 47, of Newburgh, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of heart failure.
He was an attorney and partner at Bowers & Harrison LLP and carried an A rating in the Hubble Law Review, the highest rating for an attorney. He was the attorney for the Warrick County Council and was judge-elect of the Warrick Circuit Court. He was a member of the Evansville and Indiana Bar Association.
He had been a teacher at Evansville Day School, a firefighter and fire chief for the Newburgh Volunteer Fire Department, a state-certified fire instructor, fire officer and first responder. He was a graduate of Castle High School, Wabash College and Indiana University School of Law.
He was past president of Tres Dias, current chairman of the Evansville Chrysalis, board member of the Beacon Group, former board member of the Public Safety Training Institute in Indiana and was president of the Warrick County 4-H Club.
Surviving are his wife of seven years, Nancy; a daughter, Cassie Malin of Newburgh; a sister, Shirley Grimes of Evansville; a brother, Terry of Evansville; a niece and nephew.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Fellowship Church, the Revs. David Niednagel and Donald Kanet officiating, with burial in Rose Hill cemetery in Newburgh.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Alexander Newburgh Chapel and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Fred McCurdy
Fred E. McCurdy, 82, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Newburgh Healthcare Center. He retired in 1980 after 40 years
with the H.G. Newman Plumbing & Heating Co. and was past vice president, treasurer and recording secretary of Local 136.
He was a World War II veteran, serving as a sergeant in ordnance during the Battle of the Bulge and served in Okinawa. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114.
He was a 1936 graduate of Reitz High School.
He was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ, past president of the church council and member of the UCC Class. He received the Hart of Gold award from the church for outstanding service. He was past president of Hadi Shrine Drum and Bugle Corps and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He had coached Little League and Pony League in McCutchanville and was on the board of directors at Fendrich Golf Course.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Vera Mae (Wedeking); a daughter, Maureen McCurdy Villmer of Evansville; a son, Earl of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Laura Taylor of Evansville; four grandchildren, Matthew McCurdy Villmer and Kevin, Christopher and Andrew McCurdy; and and great-grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Daniel R. Durell officiating, with private burial.

Edwin Mangold
Edwin L. Mangold, 74, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at his home of cancer. He was the owner of Bar-Nunn
Western Wear since 1971, which became one of the largest complete western stores in the Tri-State. He was a World War II veteran.
He was a charter member of the Darmstadt-McCutchanville Kiwanis, served on the board of directors of the Western-English Retailers Association and was a supporter of the Vanderburgh County 4-H programs.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Betty J. (Schimmell); a daughter, Carole Douglas of Evansville; a son, David L. of Rifle, Colo.; three sisters, Marie Clark of Willoughby, Ohio, and Betty Nettles and Mariam Dicks, both of Evansville; four grandchildren, John and Mark Douglas and Cody and Casey Mangold; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. Will Jewsbury officiating, with entombment in Park Lawn cemetery.
