John James
John A. James, 53, of Evansville, died of heart failure, Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at his home.
He had worked for T.J. Maxx and was a Navy veteran.
He was a city champion pool player and former professional wrestler.
He was a volunteer firefighter in Newburgh and Okalona, Ky., and a member of the Moose Lodge in Sellersburg, Ind. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
Surviving are three sons, Jacob of Ramsey, Ind., Johnny Brown of South Carolina and Todd Boatenheimer of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Mary of Kentucky; a brother, Richard of New Albany, Ind.; two grandchildren, Jessica and Lacey James; and his companion, Elvin Greer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Tuesday at Coots Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, Ind., with burial in Edwardsville cemetery.

Jesse Colvin
FRANCISCO — Jesse Paul “Butch” Colvin, 84, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Tucson (Ariz.) Medical Center.
He retired in 1975 after 37 years with the Chrysler Corp. in St. Louis. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, serving in Europe. He was a 50-year member of the Ballwin (Mo.) Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary Helen (McConnell); a daughter, Patricia Bedwell of Tucson; three sisters, Beatrice Dunning of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Ruth Williams of Clayton, Mo. and Edna Shadowen of Manchester, Mo.; a brother, Randall of Ellisville, Mo.; two grandchildren, Wes Bedwell and Christa Degan; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery in Francisco.

Loretta Scott
MOUNT VERNON — Loretta M. Scott, 84, died of complications of renal failure, Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at her home.
She was a life member of St. Philip Catholic Church and enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Morris E.; five daughters, Pat Muensterman of St. Wendel, Phyllis Vieck and Mary Hull, both of Evansville, Kathleen Buchanan of Mount Vernon and Sherry Scott of Spencer; six sons, James, Earl, Timothy and Eugene, all of Mount Vernon, Michael of Evansville and Stephen of Indianapolis; two sisters, Dorothy Stratman and Rosalie Froehle, both of Evansville; 26 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Diana Scott, died in 1960.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Philip Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a 4 p.m. memorial service, at Pierre Funeral Home, and from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the church.

Rev. Henry Sztuczko
JASPER — The Rev. Henry Joseph Sztuczko, 84, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at the Providence Home Health Care Center.
He was ordained a priest in the Our Lady Shrine in Tortona, Italy, in 1948 and celebrated his golden jubilee in 1998.
He attended Holy Trinity High School at Holy Cross Brothers in Chicago, joined the Congregation of the Sons of Divine Providence in 1935 and did his preparation for the priesthood in theology and philosophy in Tortona.
His assignments included the Don Orione Nursing Home in Boston, assistant pastor of Holy Crucifix Church in Manhattan, N.Y., St. Ann Catholic Church in Harlem, N.Y., and Providence Home and Health Care Center in Jasper. He had the nomination from the superiors in Rome as a delegate of all of the charitable houses in the United States.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Jasper.
Surviving is a brother, the Rev. Thad Sztuczko of Providence Home in Jasper.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Providence Home Health Care Center Chapel and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church. Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Sidney Osborn Sr.
WADESVILLE — Sidney D. Osborn Sr., 64, died of progressive supranuclear palsy, Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at his home.
He began working at the age of 15 at St. Mary’s Hospital and the McCurdy Hotel. He had worked for Kersting Bottling Co. and Time Freight Lines. He retired in 1996 after 25 years with Consolidated Frieghtways, and had been a member of Teamsters Local 215 for 30 years.
In 1950s, he operated Sidney Osborn Trucking and Disposal Service, and he was co-owner of Barbara’s Cafe and IDLE Hour Cafe with his wife of 39 years, Barbara A.
Also surviving are three daughters, Juana L. Hernandez of McHenry, Ill., Anetta Dill of Wadesville and Crystal F. Ellison of Poseyville; four sons, Sidney Jr., Dwight “Animal” and Brian Sr., all of Evansville and Randy L. of Hatfield; a sister, Edna J. Austin of Evansville; five grandchildren, Melissa, Brian Jr. and Katie Osborn and Brittany and Kristian Ellison; two stepgrandchildren, Tina Harlow and Rick Cowe; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel in Evansville, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery in Evansville.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lois Scher
VINCENNES — Lois Earley Scher, 97, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Forum Healthcare in Indianapolis.
She had been a secretary for the city of Miami, Fla.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Surviving is a nephew. Her husband, Jacob, preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. EST Tuesday in Memorial Park cemetery in Vincennes. Goodwin Family Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.
Shirley Fischer
JASPER — Shirley Ann Fischer, 61, died of complications of Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
She was an inspector for the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Surviving are her husband, Harold; a daughter, Kim Fischer of Jasper; two sons, Kip of Celestine and Kent of Columbus; four sisters, Viola Himsel and Linda Lampert, both of Jasper, Rita Mae Purcell of California and Susie Leinenbach of Bretzville; two brothers, Oscar Jr. and Jay Recker, both of Jasper; and two grandchildren, Derek and Mariah Fischer.
Services will be at 3 p.m. EST today at Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel, with burial in Fairview cemetery.

Mary Schroeder
HUNTINGBURG — Mary E. Schroeder, 92, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at The Waters Nursing Center.
She was a 1922 graduate of the one-room Mayo School and had been baptized in the Patoka River when she was a member of the First Christian Church in Duff.
She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, and a charter member of the Friendly Neighbor’s Home Economics Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Anna Mae Lehmkuhler and Lou Ellen Dittmer, both of Huntingburg; three sons, Leonard L. Borman of Huntingburg, Bennie Lee Borman of Carmel and Danny Ray Borman of Owensboro, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Henry W. Borman in 1963 and Clarence Schroeder in 1996, and a son, James Franklin Borman.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Monday at Salem United Church of Christ, with burial in the Mayo cemetery near Duff.

Alma Lewis
WASHINGTON — Alma L. Lewis, 90, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center.
She had been a grocery clerk and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Dorothy Smith of Plainfield; six grandchildren, Rene Bean, Lisa Conaway, LeAnn Monk, Louise Crum, Jeff Foster and Jimmy Montgomery; 12 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, Orville Montgomery in 1967, Bruce Chandler in 1973 and Everett Lewis in 1992 a daughter, Doris Ann Foster and two sons, Jimmy Lee and Robert Montgomery.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. EST Sunday at Gill Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.

Henry Mayer
HAUBSTADT — Henry H. Mayer, 82, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.
He was a farmer and member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are three sisters, Catherine Hall of Boonville, Elizabeth “Betty” Fischer and Mary Boelker, both of Evansville; two brothers, John J. and Anthony “Andy, ” both of Fort Branch; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Sam Kiger
ROCKPORT — Sam Kiger, 84, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
He was a coal miner.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Smith of Rockport; three sons, Albert of Farmersburg, Dale of Terre Haute and Sam Jr. of Columbia, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Monday at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan, with burial pending.
