Beaulis Doughty
Beaulis J. Doughty, 80, of Evansville, died of pneumonia Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
He retired in 1983 as a maintenance foreman after 25 years at Arkla-Preway-Servel.
He was a World War II Army veteran and attended Bethel Temple.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Vaunda; three daughters, Loretta S. Broshears of Evansville and Shelia L. Ransom and Debra K. Cornelius, both of Newburgh; a son, Keith J. of Newburgh; two sisters, Evaline R. Beasley of Evansville and Genevieve G. Barton of Newburgh; three brothers, Sam Tolbert of Evansville, Charles Doughty of Indianapolis and Frank Wilhite of Newburgh; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, the Rev. Bret Nicholson officiating, with burial in Rose Hill cemetery in Newburgh.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Association.
Lawrence Embry
Lawrence P. Embry, 60, of Evansville, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital. The Vanderburgh County coroner in investigating the death.
Surviving are three daughters, Tonya Embry Marsh, Latana Embry Smith and Tammy Sutherland of Evansville; three sons, Anthony and Lance, both of Evansville, and Lawrence Rico LeBlanc of California; two sisters, Pamela Embry Clank and Paula Embry Sikes, both of Evansville; two brothers, Dennis and Arthur, both of Evansville; and 10 grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel.
Lotus Irwin
POSEY-VILLE — Lotus Irwin, 94, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Allison Healthcare.
She and her late first husband, John Massey,
owned and operated Massey’s Store in rural Gibson County.
She was a member of the Old Union Christian Church.
Surviving are a son, Jack of Evansville; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Bob Irwin.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holder Funeral Home in Owensville, with burial in Owensville cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Edwin Blesch
ELBERFELD — Edwin H. Blesch, 88, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.
He was a member of New Jerusalem Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Viola; two sons, Norbert Lee of Elberfeld and Darrel Gene of Alameda, Calif.; two sisters, Irene Hunt of Lynnville and Esther Holtz of Evansville; a brother, Ivan of Elberfeld; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Volkman Funeral Home, with burial in Northview cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
James Lutz Sr.
BOON-VILLE — James E. Lutz Sr., 81, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Baker’s Rest Haven.
He retired in 1984 from Alcoa Warrick Operations and previously worked out of Carpenters Union Local 90.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
He attended Baker Chapel United Methodist Church in Degonia Springs, was a member of the American Legion Post 200 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3418.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Marie “Mary”; three sons, James Jr. of Degonia Springs, Tom of Central City, Ky., and Stan of Evansville; a sister, Anna Bass of Degonia Springs; a brother, Sam of Lake Placid, Fla.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
His daughter, Jeanetta Stockinger, died in 1999.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel, with burial in Plainview Memorial cemetery, with military rites.

John Smith
MOUNT VERNON — John Charles “J.C.” Smith, 78, formerly of Grayville, Ill., died of heart failure Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at the Mount Vernon Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He retired as heavy equipment operator for Schoenheit Trucking of Grayville.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law who cared for him, Kelly and Roger Sneed of Mount Vernon; three sisters, Mary Lou Jaques and Velma Broach, both of Clewiston, Fla., and Cecil Hocking of Sumner; a brother, Alfred Smith Jr. of Grayville; and two stepgrandsons, Montanna and Matthew Sneed.
His wife, M. Maxine (Gillard), died in 1978.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Oak Grove cemetery in Grayville, Ill.
Friends may call from noon to service time at Sturm Funeral Home in Grayville.
Laura Miller
Laura (Heil) Miller, 85, of Evansville, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Brentwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She had been a paper carrier for the Evansville Courier & Press and worked for Swallows Delicatessen.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, lifetime member of the Salem United Church of Christ-Heusler and member of the Women’s Guild.
She was a member of the Bunko Club, enjoyed playing clabber and bowled in Mount Vernon and Evansville.
Surviving are a son, Walter Alan of Haubstadt, Ind.; two sisters, Alice H. (Clark) Guyman of Mount Vernon, Ind., and Emma James of Bronson, Fla.; two brothers, John J. and Orville F. Sr., both of Evansville; three grandsons, Walter James, Scott A. and Stanley Miller; a great-grandson; three stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Orville “Bud” Jr., Rebecca, Walter S., Judy and Julie Heil.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Revs. Jim and Kathi Elliott officiating, with burial in Salem Church cemetery-Heusler in Mount Vernon.

Carol Joest
Carol Sue Joest, 63, died of heart failure Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.
She retired in 1991 as a nurse’s aide at Pine Haven Nursing Home.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards.
Surviving are her husband of 46 years, James A. Sr.; a daughter, Lisa Marie of Evansville; and two brothers, Paul Stanley of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jim Stanley of Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Pauline Joest, in 1963 and a son, James A. Jr., in 1995.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, continuing at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Rev. Jack Durchholz officiating, with burial in St. Francis Xavier cemetery in Poseyville, Ind.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a memorial service at 5 p.m., at the funeral home.
William Neisen
William F. Neisen, 77, of Apple Valley, Calif., formerly of Evansville, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Apple Valley of heart failure.
He had owned Bill’s Pool Supply in Apple Valley and Phoenix. He had worked at the A&P; grocery and the L&N; Railroad in Evansville. He was a 1941 graduate of Reitz High School.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Anna Marie; a son, William J. of Apple Valley; two sisters, Mary Ann Neisen of Apple Valley and Esther Riger, both of Evansville; two brothers, Louis and Charles, both of Evansville; two grandchildren, Stephanie Neisen and Kenneth Nesser; and three great-grandchildren.
Sunset Hills Mortuary in Apple Valley handled the arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of the Inland Empire in San Bernardino, Calif.
Ruby Gatlin
Ruby E. Gatlin, 94, of Evansville, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the Evansville Protestant Home.
She retired in 1966 from teaching in Union County, Ky. She worked for Christ the King Catholic School and was a member of the Kentucky Teacher’s Association.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Evansville and enjoyed playing bridge.
Surviving are two sisters, Irene Hamm of Henderson, Ky., and Nell Lesko of Dayton, Ohio; and nieces and nephews including Ruth Schlusemeyer and Barbara Morgan, who cared for her.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Jerry Clark officiating, with burial in Pythian Ridge cemetery in Sturgis, Ky.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Antoinette Birge
JASPER — Antoinette J. “Net” Birge, 83, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
She had worked at Gus Doerner Sports as a designer and seamstress.
She was a 1933 graduate of Jasper High School.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, St. Ann’s Society and a longtime member of local bridge groups, including one that had met since high school.
Surviving are her husband, Cyril; four daughters, Judy Calley of Sebastian, Fla., Jane Birge of Nederland, Texas, Betty Anderson of Muncie and Kathy Eckerle of Jasper; five sons, Jerry of Owensboro, Ky., Bill and John, both of Jasper, Jim of Long Beach, Calif., and Bob of Indianapolis; two sisters, Catherine “Catty” Rohleder and Gerry LeMastus, both of Jasper; 25 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. EST Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in Fairview cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a memorial service at 3 p.m., at Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel.
