Mary Beasley
Mary M. Beasley, 94, of Evansville, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She had worked at Chrysler Corp. in production.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Papenmeier of Wadesville, Ind., and Bonnie Binkley of Evansville; three sons, Willis of Boonville, Ind., Charles of Nashville, Tenn., and Chester of Evansville; a sister, Effie Abner of Saybrook, Ill.; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Otis, died in 1975 and a son, Donald, died in January.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Simpson Meyer Funeral Home, Bobby Cox officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery in the city.

Woodrow Pemberton
Woodrow Pemberton, 87, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Evansville, died Friday, April 14, 2000, in Fort Myers.
He taught high school in Warrick County and at Bosse High School where he was a physics teacher and department head.
He taught physics as an adjunct professor and visiting professor at Evansville College and Indiana University. He retired from the University of Southern Indiana in 1974 after a 40-year teaching career.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, stationed at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., doing research in ultrasonics for use in anti-submarine warfare. He was a lieutenant commander.
He was a 1931 graduate of Oakland City College and received his master’s degree from Indiana University in 1952.
He was a member of the Elks, Optimist and the American Association of Physics Teachers. He was listed in the “American Men of Science.”
His honors include, a Distinguished Teacher of Physics Award and he was the subject of one of Ed Klingler’s “An Evansville Profile” in the Evansville Press.
Surviving are a son, Ross of Greencastle, Ind.; and a granddaughter, Samantha Pemberton.
His wife of 65 years, Mary, died in 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel of Remembrance, the Rev. Thomas Bartley officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the American Heart Association.
Helen Brand
Helen C. Brand, 93, of Owensboro, Ky., formerly of Evansville, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Carmel Nursing Home.
She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Evansville, Our Lady of Lourdes in Owensboro and a 26-year member of the Welborn Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, E. Jeanne Lindow of Owensboro, Ky.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Wilson and John, Jeffrey and Joseph Musgrave; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her husband, John, died in 1961.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, the Rev. Ted Tempel officiating, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Carmel Home in Owensboro, Ky., from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Carmel Nursing Home.
William Pancake
William A. “Bill” Pancake, 71, of Evansville, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Angel River Health and Convalescent of cancer.
He had worked at Gibbs Die Casting in Henderson, Ky., and Hahn Co.
He was a member of Light of Faith Pentecostal Church.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Aileene; two daughters, Diana Gayle Beasley of Evansville and Elizabeth Ann Barnes of Bristow, Ind.; two sons, Gary W. and Robert Dale, both of Evansville; a sister, Donna Belt of Evansville; and five grandchildren, Christopher and Gregory Bailey and Timothy, Melissa and David Beasley.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Revs. Barry Paddock and Carl Mann II officiating, with burial in Park Lawn cemetery.

John English
John Anthony “Jack” English, 71, brother of Sara “Sally” Seib of Evansville, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at his home in Sacramento, Calif., of cancer.
He was an Army veteran and Catholic.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; two sons, Tony of Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Mark of Port Castus, Calif.; two brothers, Pat of Vincennes, Ind., and Don of Greenville, S.C.; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are pending. Sierra View Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements in Sacramento, Calif.
Steven TenBarge
Steven A. TenBarge, 46, of Evansville, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at his home. Cause of death is pending Vanderburgh County coroner’s autopsy results.
He was a heavy-equipment mechanic.
Surviving are a son, Jason Michael of Evansville; and his mother and stepfather, Marjorie and Bill Fleming of Evansville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph cemetery in the Chapel, Monsignor Kenneth Knapp officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.
There will be no visitation at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel.
Richard Gerard Jr.
Richard J. Gerard Jr., 80, of Newburgh, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
He had owned the Knob Hill Tavern in Newburgh for many years. He had worked at Servel and Bendix-Westinghouse.
In 1942, he was Evansville’s city champion in tennis and had been a table-tennis champion.
He was a Catholic and member of the American Legion Kapperman Post 44.
Surviving are his wife, Dora Mae; a stepdaughter, Jane Ann Knowles of Newburgh; a stepson, John Shackelford of Florida; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
His daughter, Sharon Martin, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Simpson Funeral Home Newburgh Chapel, the Rev. Joseph Ziliak officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Luther Appel
Luther Oscar Appel, 91, of Crittenden County, Ky., formerly of Evansville, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Crittenden County Convalescent Center.
He retired in 1968 from the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp. as a custodian at Reitz High School. He was also a truck driver for five years.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Trotter of Madisonville, Ky., and Judith Young of Crittenden County; a stepson, Roy Cheaney of Evansville; a brother, Henry R. Appell of Evansville; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolly D. (MacIntosh), in 1948; and by his second wife, Hazel (Kerr), in 1996.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Boone Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, the Rev. Steven Kirk officiating, with burial in Park Lawn cemetery.

Steven Smith
Steven Jeffrey Smith, 39, of Newburgh, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at the home of his parents, Walter K. Jr. and Martha (Colson) Smith in Fowler, Ind., of pancreatic cancer.
He was a 1983 graduate of the University of Evansville.
He worked in radio broadcasting at WGAB in Newburgh and at Readmore Bookstores in Evansville.
He attended the Church of the Cross in Evansville.
Also surviving are a brother, David of Earl Park, Ind.; a niece and a nephew; and his companion, Lisa Hunter of Evansville.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Earl Park Presbyterian Church in Earl Park, the Rev. Ruby Kleymann officiating, with burial in Earl Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Windler Funeral Home in Fowler.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Earl Park Presbyterian Church, Benton County Cancer Association or to St. Elizabeth Hospice.
Harold Conley
Harold M. Conley, 70, of Evansville, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at his home.
He retired from CSX Transportation as an engineer.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon McLain of Lanesville, Ind.; two sons, Harold Jr. of Evansville and Charles of Johnson City, Tenn.; three sisters, Mary Ridlnour of Kimberly, W.Va., Imogene Wilkie of Ocala, Fla., and Adilene Boxley of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, Ind., the Rev. Dale Huff officiating, with burial in St. Peter’s Lutheran cemetery near Corydon.
