Margaret Prather
Margaret I. Prather, 80, of Evansville, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.
She had worked at Whirlpool before, during and after World War II and retired from the Criminal Justice Planning Agency as a secretary.
She was a life member of Howell United Methodist Church and a member of the Eastern Star and the American Business Women’s Association. She was also an organist, playing at area funeral homes.
Surviving are a son, Vernon of Evansville; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Nathaniel Prather.
Her husband, Paul, died in 1969.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Kriekhaus Sansom Funeral Home, the Rev. Jan Akers-Dubois officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Elsie Utley
Elsie Utley, 68, of Evansville, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of heart failure.
Surviving are three sons, George, Rick and Thomas, all of Evansville; a sister, Francis Delaney of Evansville; a brother, Eddie Fenwick of Evansville; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1987, and by a daughter, Doris Boyd, in 1987.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, the Rev. William Carlisle officiating, with burial in Black cemetery in Mount Vernon, Ind.

Clara Baker
Clara E. Baker, 90, of Evansville, formerly of Cynthiana, Ind., died Friday, April 28, 2000, at North Park Nursing Center.
She was a member of Bethel Temple.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Betty Hill of St. Wendel, Ind.; a stepson, Jack Baker of Florida; six stepgrandchildren, Jimmie, Sonnet and Autumn Baker, Jerrie Hatfield, Jamie Rasure and Jodie Davis; stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, including niece Beulah Pancake, who cared for her.
Services will be at noon Monday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.

Esther Leffel
MOUNT VERNON — Esther C. (Rode) Leffel, 89, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
She worked as a secretary in the County Treasurer’s, Clerk’s and Surveyor’s offices and for Tony Hulman of the Hulman Co. in Evansville.
She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and Tri Kappa.
She was a graduate of Lockyear Business College.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Beth Linder of Helena, Mont., and Holly Ann Leffel of Mount Vernon; two sons, Geoffrey A. of Newburgh and John H. II of Indianapolis; two sisters, Laura Wagner and Verona Rode, both of Evansville; a brother, Eugene Rode of Evansville; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband, John H., died in 1996.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Church, with burial in Bellefontaine cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 7 p.m., at Norvell Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Terry Siekman
BUCKSKIN — Terry W. Siekman, 57, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at his home under hospice care.
He worked at Ball Plastics for 25 years, Mid-America Plastics for 10 years and Guardian Automotive for two years.
He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Buckskin and Oakland City Golf Club.
He was a 1961 graduate of Mackey High School.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Doerner); two sons, Greg and Jeff, both of Buckskin; his mother, Irene Siekman of Buckskin; a sister, Shirley Barnett of Buckskin; a brother, Gary of Buckskin; and three grandsons, Kyle, Ryan and Tyler Siekman.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, with burial in St. John’s cemetery in Buckskin.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association or to the American Cancer Society.
Doris Carrie
BICKNELL — Doris L. Carrie, 79, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Crestview Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Free Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet Allen of Vincennes; a son, Tony R. of Evansville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, in 1999, and by a son, Michael.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park cemetery.
There will be no visitation at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home.
Hubert Loehrlein
HAUBSTADT — Hubert J. Loehrlein, 86, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.
He was a retired construction worker.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and American Legion Post 194.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Phyllis Bryant of Jamestown, N.Y., and Mary White of Wichita, Kan.; two stepsons, Bill Bryant of Georgetown and Ben L. Bryant of Princeton; two sisters, Pauline Fulks of Birmingham, Ala., and Irene Vaal of St. Meinrad; stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia (Memmer), in 1967, and by his second wife, Thelma (Nossett), in 1995.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, with burial in the church cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., at Wade Funeral Home, and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

John Uebelhoer
HUNTINGBURG — John J. Uebelhoer, 70, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville of heart failure.
He was a dentist, practicing for 41 years.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Joan M.; five daughters, Michele J. Uebelhoer of Indianapolis, Cheryl M. Uebelhoer of Chicago, Mary C. Uebelhoer of Jasper, Gina A. Uebelhoer of Huntingburg and Amy J. Uebelhoer of Evansville; a son, Mark of Mitchell; a brother, Urban L. “Pete” of Indianapolis; and two grandsons, Carter and Max Uebelhoer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church, with burial in the church cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m., at Nass & Son Funeral Home.

William Schmelz
William M. Schmelz, 58, of Evansville, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of heart failure. He
worked for Evana Automation Inc. as a control engineer and was past president of the board of directors of Wildridge Resort at Patoka Lake.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Suzanne; a daughter, Tina Williams of Evansville; five sons, Martin and Daniel Schmelz, both of New Albany, Ind., David Schmelz of San Antonio, Richard Schmelz of Bloomington, Ind., and Brian Miller of El Paso, Texas; his mother, Freda Schmelz of New Albany; two sisters, Dorothy Gilkey of Floyds Knobs, Ind., and Nancy Bierbaum of Henryville, Ind.; a brother, Jim of New Albany; 14 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a son, Norman Miller, in 1992.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, the Rev. Raymond Kuper officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a memorial service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Traumma Bender
Traumma Veann Bender, 29, of Evansville, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at St. Mary’s Health Care Services/Wel-
born Campus. The cause of death is not known and pending autopsy results from the Vanderburgh County coroner.
Surviving are a daughter, Jeannie Ann McConomy of Evansville; three sons, Aaron William and Gene Michael Bender, both of San Diego, and Donnie Bender of Evansville; her father and stepmother, George W. and Susan E. Bender of Evansville; a brother, Keith Michael Alstadt of Evansville; and her companion, Donnie Harold.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel, with burial in the cemetery.
