William Phillips
BRUCEVILLE — William Aaron “Wig” Phillips, 83, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Crestview Convalescent Home.
He retired from Phillips Septic Tank Service.
He was a World War II Army veteran and member of American Legion Post 73.
He was a member of Bethlehem General Baptist Church.
He was a fisherman and made his own nets.
Surviving are his wife, Betty J. (Kitchell); a daughter, Ann Robinson of Indianapolis; four stepdaughters, Donna Catt of Fritchton, and Diane Schaller, Debbie Melvin and Dana McGregor, all of Vincennes; a son, Ronnie of Vincennes; a sister, Hazel Lancaster of Vincennes; a brother, Ezra of Vincennes; and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park cemetery.

Victoria Rettig
HAUBSTADT — Victoria M. “Vic” Rettig, 90, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Holiday Care Center in Evansville.
She and her late husband, Pete, who died in 1985, had owned The Log Inn Restaurant in Warrenton.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, St. Rita’s Auxiliary 228 and the Altar Society.
Surviving are two daughters, Rita Elpers of Warrenton and Marilyn Vessels of Owensboro, Ky.; two sons, William of Santa Anna, Calif., and Joseph of Cincinnati; two sisters, Hilda Ziliak and Mildred Will, both of Evansville; a brother, Charles Zenthoefer of Warrenton; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary service at 7 p.m., at Wade Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Loretta George
TELL CITY — Loretta G. George, 84, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.
She had worked at Fischer’s Chair Co. for 16 years and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Jean Pierrard and Penny Smith, both of Tell City; two sons, Joseph Loren Stephens of Santa Claus and David Stephens of Nashville, Ind.; a sister, Peggy Schmidt of Tell City; 22 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Ted Stephens and Robert George Sr., and a stepson, Robert “Bud” George.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home.

James Smith
VINCENNES — James E. “Jim” Smith, 78, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital of heart failure.
He retired after more than 19 years with the Vincennes School Corp.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps major with the 4022nd Bomber Squadron and had participated in 55 missions in the European Theatre. He was a member of American Legion Post 73, Reserved Officers Association of the United States and Vincennes Masonic Lodge 1.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Marion (Dillon); two daughters, Linnette Mooney and Denise Newman, both of Vincennes; a son, Kent of Vincennes; a sister, Virginia Saddler of Evansville; seven grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park cemetery.

Gilbert Fehrenbacher
Gilbert A. Fehrenbacher, 86, of Evansville, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home from a heart attack.
He was the founder of Fehrenbacher Cabinet Co.
He was a founding member of the Catholic Charities Garden Patch Program and since 1983 was active in Habitat for Humanity in Evansville.
He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in the county and president of the Senior Citizens Program and the Carpenter Society at the church. He was ordained a deacon in the Catholic Diocese of Evansville in 1980.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Alberta (Benkert); four daughters, Joan David, Carol Klenck and Mary Ann Miller, all of Evansville, and Betty David of Bloomington; four sons, Gary, Dennis G. and Bob, all of Evansville, and Dr. John of Indianapolis; five sisters, Catherine Miller, Iona Deig and Marian Ellsperman, all of Evansville, Edna Gish of Henderson, Ky., and Rosalie Hartman of St. Louis; three brothers, Jim and Wilbur, both of Evansville, and Ray of St. Louis; 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bishop Gerald A. Gettelfinger and the Rev. Richard Wildeman officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Pierre Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Donna Bufkin
Donna Jo Bufkin, 63, of Evansville, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Columbia Healthcare of cancer.
She retired from the dietary department at Deaconess Hospital in 1998.
She was a graduate of Mater Dei High School and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Surviving are her father, Edward J. Bufkin of Evansville; two brothers, Spencer of Evansville and Steven of Newburgh; and nieces.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Simpson Meyer Funeral Home, the Rev. Jay Davidson officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.

Howard Yeker
Howard B. Yeker, 83, of Newburgh, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Atria Newburgh.
He was a plumber for Industrial
Contractors and for nine years was a North High School Building Trades volunteer.
He was a Navy veteran, serving in the SeaBees.
He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Newburgh, Isaac Walton League and for 60 years the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 136.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan Henning of Evansville; two sons, Ron of Evansville and John of Sellersburgh, Ind.; four sisters, Gloria Uberlhor of Lexington, Ky., Jeannette Phillips of Texas, and Mary Agnes Jenkins and Kathleen Folz, both of Evansville; four grandchildren, Robbie and Angela Jossa, Jennifer Kaufman and Greg Yeker; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, the Rev. Kevin Maxey officiating, with burial in Lutheran cemetery.

Ruth I. Jaco, 87, of Evansville, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She was a former member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving is her husband of 61 years, Paul M.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. James T. Heady officiating. There will be no visitation.

Lorraine Neff
Lorraine C. Neff, 81, of Evansville, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at her home.
She had worked at Smith & Butterfield and deJong’s in Lawndale.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Surviving are a sister, Catherine G. Altstadt of Evansville; her caregiver, Rose King; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, continuing at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, the pastoral team officiating, with entombment in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
