Eugene Sweeney
Eugene E. “Gene” Sweeney, 70, of Evansville, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of cancer.
He retired in 1982 after 35 years with International Harvester Motor Truck Division.
He enjoyed stock car racing and was a 21-year fan of the Indianapolis 500.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, June (Lenhardt); two sons, Leroy and Keith, both of Evansville; four sisters, Rita Rogers of Round Lake, Ill., Jewell Pollock of Waukesha, Wis., Dorothy Pipp of Milwaukee and Janet Porter of Mukwonago, Wis.; two brothers, Duane of New Berlin, Wis., and Jerald of Clarksville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rachel, Sarah and Adam Sweeney, Michelle Spurling and Stephanie Vaughn; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services and entombment in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum will be private. There will be no visitation at Browning Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Indianapolis 500 Old Timers Club in Speedway, Ind.
Sharon Sloo
Sharon L. Sloo, 65, of Evansville, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of heart failure.
She was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral and Daughters of Isabella.
Surviving is a son, Kenneth E. Sloo II of Indianapolis. Her husband, Kenneth, died in 1995.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 9 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a memorial service at 6:45 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mater Dei High School.
Donald Meredith
Donald Ray Meredith, 54, of Richland, Ind., formerly of Evansville, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of heart failure.
He was a concrete finisher and member of Local Labor Union 561. He was Pentecostal.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Doris (Detalente); a daughter, Shirley Jean Anderson of Newburgh; a son, Dale Wayne of Richland; three sisters, Lillian Riggles and Mary Osborne, both of Evansville and Wilma Schultz of Custer, S.D.; seven brothers, Ralph and Jimmy, both of Dallas, Truman of Henderson, Ky., Chet of Robards, Ky., David of Chandler, Ind., Richard of Boonville, Ind., and Larry of Evansville; six grandchildren, Drake and Kassidy Meredith, Jordynn, Taylor, Cameron and Kamree Anderson; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Richard Meredith officiating, with burial in James Parker cemetery in Hatfield, Ind.

James Schnabel
James W. Schnabel, 58, of Evansville, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Select Hospital of Evansville of complications of cancer.
He was the service manager for Alvey Scott’s, Banner Truck & Trailer Sales and Evansville Truck Center.
He was a Navy veteran and member of Christian Fellowship Church.
He was skilled woodworker and well-known for his craftmanship.
Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Violet; three daughters, Margie Ann Wharton, Carrie Babb and Sara Hardin, all of Evansville; a son, Paul Salke of Evansville; two sisters, Shirley Ann Horton and Carolyn Sue Morris, both of Evansville; five brothers, Steven Michael and Bruce Richard, both of Evansville, Robert Eugene of St. Augustine, Fla., Keith Allen of Cocoa, Fla., and Roger Lee of Kissimmee, Fla.; five grandchildren, Danny, Jeremy, Kelli, Angel and Noah; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. Spencer R. Downs officiating, with burial in Locust Hill cemetery.

Donald Lloyd
FRANCISCO — Donald R. Lloyd, 56, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He had a heart condition.
He was a truck driver for Straussberger Trucking, in Earl Park.
He was a Korean War Army veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1147.
Surviving are two daughters, Christi Atherton of Evansville and Kimberly Dawson of Princeton; his mother, Viola Eloyce Lloyd of Francisco; a sister, Carol Joanne Fulling of Buckskin; four brothers, Bill of Cheyenne, Wyo., Randy of Fort Branch, Darrell of Yuma, Ariz., and Jeff of Francisco; and three grandchildren, Kitt Atherton and Hope and Bailey Dawson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Colvin Funeral Home, with burial in Columbia White Church cemetery, with military rites.

Delores Pipher
VINCENNES — Delores L. “Dee” Pipher, 75, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital of congestive heart failure.
She was a medical receptionist for Drs. Ewing and Vonderleith.
She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, St Ann’s Altar Society and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are three daughters, Pamela Martin and Patricia Buntrock, both of Cheney, Wash., and Mary Ann Dominquez of Montebello, Calif.; two sons, Paul F. Willis of New Jersey, and Michael Pipher of Vincennes; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary cemetery.

Thomas Nelson Jr.
BIRDSEYE — Thomas B. Nelson Jr., 95, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Memorial Hospital and health Care Center in Jasper.
He had been a school teacher, bus driver and farmer.
He was a member of the Anderson Valley Christian Church and the Bethlehem Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary M. Dooley of Birdseye; a sister, Dorothy Jackson of Birdseye; a brother, Jack of Birdseye; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
His wife, Dessie Olene, died in 1997, and a son Donald, also preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg, with burial in Birdseye cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

Marie Morris
PRINCETON — Marie Morris, 80, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Linda Hall in Waukegan, Ill.
She worked at Hein’s Gift Shop in Waukegan for more than 20 years.
She was a member of Wayman Chapel Church and former member of Lyles Homemakers Club.
Also surviving are two sons, Glen and Donald, both of Princeton; her mother, Livola Stewart of Princeton; three sisters, Lola Gordon of Vincennes, Imogene Hughes of Princeton and Lenora Cole of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Lester, died in 1977.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Colvin Funeral Home, with burial in Sand Hill cemetery.

Wayne Cates
WHEATLAND — Wayne Cates, 71, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at his home. He had a heart condition.
He had been a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union and the Monroe City Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Sue; two daughters, Dana Stegall of Monroe City and Leuticia “Tish” Cates of Wheatland; a son, Gordon of St. Charles, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Goodwin Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Grove cemetery.

Barbara Howe
VINCENNES — Barbara Jean Howe, 72, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at her home. She had a heart condition.
She had been a bookkeeper at Indiana Auto Supply and for Dr. Melvin Coffel’s office.
She was a past precinct committeewoman and was a member of the Republican Women’s Organization.
She was a member of the Bethlehem General Baptist Church.
Surviving are five sons, Bob of Michigan City, Jim of Mount Clair, W.Va.; Ken of Greenwood and Dwight and Joe, both of Vincennes; 10 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
A son, Bill, died in 1984.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park cemetery.

Janet Lancaster
VINCENNES — Janet Lancaster, 51, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at the home of her mother, Yozell Kirk, in Vincennes of cancer.
She worked as a sales clerk for Harmons Photography and was a member of St. Hilary’s Episcopal Church in Fort Myers.
Also surviving are a son, David of Vincennes; and a sister, Mary Elliott of Bedford.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Episcopal Church, with burial in Memorial Park cemetery.
