Geraldine Schmidt
Geraldine Louise Schmidt, 73, formerly of Evansville, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, in Cocoa, Fla., of complication of Alzheimer’s disease.
She was a 1945 graduate of Winslow High School and a 1950 graduate of the Deaconess School of Nursing.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, WeLand; two sisters, Rozina Roberson of Merritt Island, Fla., and Doris McKinney of Oakland City, Ind.; a brother, Bill Nance of Plano, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at a later date in Indiana.
Bradley Colonial Chapel in Boonville, Ind., is handling local arrangements.
Infant Charles Smith
Charles Robert Smith, infant son of Charles and Angel Smith of Evansville, was stillborn Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.
Also surviving are his grandparents, Roxanne and Kenny Cowdell of Haubstadt, Ind., Donna and Leonard Poole and Judy and Ernest Smith, all of Evansville, and Timothy Glennong of Nashville, Tenn.; and his great-grandparents, Ruby Hardaway, Vernon Hardaway, Geneva Willard and Caron and Richard McDowell.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Alexander Memorial Park, the Rev. Arthur Christmas officiating.
There will be no visitation at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel.
Lester Hulsey
Lester B. “Les” Hulsey, 84, of Evansville, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at his home.
He retired in 1975 from Chrysler Corp. as a sales clerk.
He was a life member of American Legion Post 528 in Christopher, Ill., Veterans of Foreign Wars 1114 and the Disabled American Veterans James Bethel Gresham Post 7 and a member of the Knights of Columbus 565 and Owls 30 in Evansville. He was also a member of the Elks, Eagles and Moose Lodges in Cape Coral, Fla.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Louise (Chiado); a sister, Zola Houston of Houston; and nieces and a nephew.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Browning Funeral Home, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Browning Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Deaconess/Ohio Valley Hospice.
Virginia Semler
Virginia (Blood) Wright Semler, 87, of Evansville, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She was a school teacher, most recently at Bosse High School from 1964 to 1970.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Musicians Club of Evansville, Chi Omega sorority and the Kennel Club. She was a supporter of the Evansville Philharmonic and the University of Evansville Johnson Society.
She was a graduate of Bosse High School and a 1934 graduate of Evansville College.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Nancy Sawrey of Rochester, N.Y., and Vicki Semler of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a stepson, Jerry Semler of Indianapolis; a sister, Barbara Fischer of Bloomington, Ind.; and a granddaughter, Laura Wright.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John S. Wright, in 1964, her second husband, Henry Semler, in 1981, and by a son, John S. Wright, in 1997.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Browning Funeral Home, the Revs. Kevin Fleming and Wendy McCormick officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Account for the Development of Theatre at the University of Evansville.
Cora Calvert
Cora Mae Calvert, 91, of Evansville, formerly of Nortonville, Ky., died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
She worked at L. Burman Manufacturing in Evansville and at the Hanson School in Hanson, Ky., during the 1930s as a kitchen supervisor.
She was a member of New Hope General Baptist Church in Webster County, Ky.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Her husband, James Cecil, died in 1981.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, Ky., the Rev. Clifton Vandiver officiating, with burial in McNeely cemetery.

Rev. Joel Evans
PETERSBURG — The Rev. Joel H. Evans, 86, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
He was a coal miner and had worked at Evansville Concrete for 28 years. He was also a General Baptist minister for 49 years, serving churches in the area, including Helfrich General Baptist Church in Evansville, Trinity General Baptist in Chandler, Baldwin Heights General Baptist Church in Princeton, Fair View General Baptist in English and Petersburg General Baptist Church.
He was a member of Petersburg General Baptist Church and was called the “Doctor of Churches.”
Surviving are his wife, Pauline (Doughty); two daughters, Reba Jane Graham of Newburgh and Donna S. King of Winslow; a son, Joel L. of Newburgh; three sisters, Bessie Mosby and Jewel Davis, both of Petersburg, and Mable Thomas of Columbus; eight grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, with burial in Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Campbellstown.

Infant Michael Krack
MOUNT VERNON — Michael Alan Krack, 9-month-old son of Michael Ray and Clarissa (Michels) Krack, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. He had been ill since birth.
He and his family attended Mount Vernon First Church of the Nazarene.
Also surviving are his grandparents, Harvey Michels of Fairfield, Ill., Debra and William Gill of New Harmony and Michael and Cindy Krack of St. Wendel; his great-grandparents, Donald and Charlene Krack, Ray and Sharon Pfender, Sue Johnson, Louella Michels, William and Vi Johnson and Virginia Scott; and a great-great-grandmother.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Boone Funeral Home Mount Vernon Chapel, with burial in Bellefontaine cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Donald Leishman
MOUNT VERNON — Donald “Cowboy” Leishman, 60, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at his home of a heart attack.
He worked at Eastside Lumber Co. in Mount Vernon.
He was an Army veteran, having served as a member of the military police and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are a sister, Jean Woolf of Hartville, Ohio; a brother, William D. “Bill” of Mount Vernon; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Boone Funeral Home Mount Vernon Chapel, with burial in Wolfinger cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mary Benthall
Mary K. Benthall, 82, of Newburgh, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.
She retired from St. Mary’s Medical Center’s therapy department in 1978.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Newburgh and the Sunshine Girls.
Surviving are three daughters, Jackie Wilhite of Pink Hill, N.C., and Joyce Wathen and Linda Schiff, both of Evansville; two sons, Phillip of Evansville and Tom of Henderson, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, John D., died in 1981.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Mike Claypool officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gerald Hunter
Gerald Edwin Hunter, 81, of Evansville, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Brentwood Convalescent Center.
He operated a 350-acre farm with his father and his grandfather, was active in the Farm Bureau and was president of the New Harmony Township Farm Bureau for three years.
He was a 1937 graduate of New Harmony High School and a 1938 graduate of Lockyear Business College in Evansville.
He was a member of the Posey County 4-H Fair board, and served on the financial committee of Johnson United Methodist Church in New Harmony.
In Fort Myers, Fla., he was past president of Edison Kiwanis and won the Ruby Award for service and received the Captain Bill’s Award. He served on the blood bank committee for Lee Memorial Hospital for 10 years, was a member of the Real Estate Exchangors and was Exchangor of the Year in 1987. He had worked for the Forestry Resources in Florida for two years.
He enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Werry Funeral Home Poseyville Chapel, the Rev. George Purnell officiating, with burial in Poseyville cemetery.
