Charles McDurmon
MOUNT VERNON - Charles L. McDurmon, 86, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He retired from Bucyrus-Erie in 1977 after 33 years.
He was a member of the Eagles and Moose Lodge.
Surviving are two daughters, Loretta M. Winiger and Betty J. Stallman, both of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Mary Ann Newcomb of Evansville and Norma J. Uhde of Mount Vernon; six brothers, Floyd and Alex "Butch, " both of Mount Vernon, John of Evansville, Bill of Florida, George of North Carolina, and Marvin of New Harmony; five grandchildren, Joseph L., Andy and Curt R. Winiger, Rashel Owens and Selena Denning; and eight great-grandchildren.
His wife, Charlotte, died in 1999.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Boone Funeral Home Mount Vernon Chapel, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park in Evansville.

Dwight Miller
BOONVILLE - Dwight C. "Pete" Miller, 84, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at his home. He retired after 26 years with Southern Indiana Gas & Electric Co.’s Culley Generating Station.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3418.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Clazina "Clara"; three daughters, Tina A. Smith and Carol Arterberry, both of Boonville, and Barbara Champlain of Mount Vernon; a brothers, Richard "Dick" of Boonville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sons-in-law who cared for him, Darrel Smith and Dennis Champlain.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel, with burial in Plainview Memorial cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Association.
Clara Lee
VINCENNES - Clara Ellistene Lee, 82, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Lodge of the Wabash.
She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Marguerite L. Meyer of Vincennes; three sons, Larry Landrey of Vincennes, Richard E. Landrey of Boyton Beach, Fla., and Frank L. Landrey of Lynchburg, Va.; a brother, Ozrow Baker of Boyton Beach; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Landrey and her second husband, James D. Lee.
Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park cemetery. Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Walter Harris
JASPER - Walter N. Harris, 77, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, near Jasper of injuries sustained in an airplane crash.
He had been a Portersville community farmer and served 12 years on the Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation Board.
He was a charter member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Roberta (Mehne); three sons, Walter Ray of Otwell, Danny of Carmi, Ill., and Larry of Ireland; and four grandchildren.
A son, Robert Nicholas, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Shiloh United Methodist Church, with burial in Portersville cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund or a favorite charity.
J.E. Kress
JASPER - J.E. "Ed" Kress, 65, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, near Jasper of injuries sustained in an airplane crash.
He owned Kress Insurance Co.
He was a member of Dubois County Flying Club, Jasper Booster Club and Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife, Eileen; a daughter, Cindy Ballard of Lewisburg, Tenn.; two sons, Steve of Encinitas, Calif., and Reed of Jasper; a sister, Sarah Henning of Louisville; a brother, Don of Jasper; and a grandson.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with entombment in Fairview cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel, with a prayer vigil at 4 p.m.

Lois Reed
Lois L. Reed, 77, of Evansville, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Woodland Convalescent Center of cancer.
She had worked for Swift & Co., Schultheis Insurance Agency, JC Penny Co. and McClain Trucking Co.
She was a 1941 graduate of Bosse High School. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Surviving are her husband of two years, Denzil E.; a stepdaughter, C. Denise Paul of Mount Vernon, Ind.; a stepson, Dennis of Phoenix; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, the Rev. Ron Atkins officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.

Gustine S. George, 75, of Evansville, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Holiday Health Care.She was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Louisville, Ky.Surviving are two daughters, Yana Boosalis and Susie Arflack, both of Chandler, Ind.; two sons, Michael and Phillip, both of Evansville; a brother, John Lahanis of Evansville; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.Her husband, James M., died in 1981 and a son, Samuel, died in 1976.Services will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 1 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the Rev. Patrick J. Cowles officiating, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.

Raymond Beal
Raymond Chester Beal, 87, of Evansville, died Thursday, May 10, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
He retired in 1972 after 36 years as a tool maker for Caterpillar in Peoria, Ill., and moved to Evansville.
He was deacon of Landmark Baptist Church.Surviving are his wife, Stella Mae; two daughters, Doris Aakvik of Florida, and Carol Miller of Pekin, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Deanna Brown of Newburgh; four sons, Jack Beal of Palmdale, Calif., Jerry Beal of Belvidere, Ill., Pat Walker of Bartonville, Ill., and Jim Beal of Mapleton, Ill.; three stepson, Gene Martin of Mount Vernon, Ind., Steven Martin of Virginia, and Darrell Martin of Germany; two brothers, Howard of Centralia, Ill., and Vernon of Evansville; 39 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Landmark Baptist Church, the Rev. Barry Kirves officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

Jerome Leeds
Jerome S. “Jerry” Leeds, 79, formerly of Evansville, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at his home in Jacksonville, Fla. He had a heart condition.
He had established a flying school at the Evansville airport, owned Jerry Leed’s Automobiles and owned a motor home business until 1993. He had been president and owner of Alamo Aircraft in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. from 1961 to 1971. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Sammi Jackson of Jacksonville; a brother, Richard Levy of San Francisco; and two grandchildren, Jordyn and Clay Jackson.
Hardage-Gibbens Funeral Home in Jacksonville handled the arrangements.

Shirley Dillon
Shirley M. Dillon, 63, of Evansville, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at his home of congestive heart failure. She retired in 1965 as a nurse’s assistant at Pine Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Truman Wayne; four daughters, Ronda Baker of Boonville, Ind., Tina Kemper and Jacqueline Brown, both of Evansville and Angela Yates of Chandler, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Patty Robinson and Gina G. Dillon, both of Evansville; three sons, Tony and David Todd, both of Evansville and Terry Todd of Madisonville, Ky.;two stepsons, Darrell W. of Chandler and Bobby R. of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Judy A. Buckles and Connie J. Dillon, both of Evansville; two brothers, Charles S. Badger and Leonard A. Badger, both of Evansville; 17 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Park Lawn Georgian Chapel, the Rev. Chet Todd officiating, with burial in Park Lawn cemetery.

Erna Barthel
Erna M. Barthel, 90, of Evansville, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Regina Continuing Care Center.
She had been a secretary.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Surviving are two brothers, Bernard of Austin, Texas, and Benedict of St. Meinrad Archabbey; and nieces and nephews. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Pierre Funeral Home, continuing at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.

Vera O’Neal
Vera L. O’Neal, 72, of Evansville, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at her home of lung cancer. She retired in 1992 after 23 years in inventory control at Mead Johnson. She was a member of McCutchanville United Methodist Church and a volunteer at the YWCA in the swimming program. She was a member of Al-Anon. Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Hardiman of Haubstadt and Kristi Akers of Princeton; a son, Steve of Somerville, S.C.; a sister, Carolyn Williams of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a brother, Carl Bostic of Mattoon, Ill.; five grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, Timothy, Erin and Amanda; and nieces and nephews.Her husband of 52 years, Frederick Dale, died in 1999.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. David Barnett officiating, with burial in McCutchanville cemetery.

Elsie Westfall
Elsie Victoria Westfall, 99, of Evansville, formerly of Newburgh, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Holiday Care Center. She had worked at the Westfall Drug Store in Newburgh as a clerk. She was a member of the Newburgh Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Marion Yokel; two stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
