Gladys Jackson
Gladys E. “Momma” Jackson, 83, of Evansville, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at St. Mary’s Health Care Services/Welborn Campus.
She worked for Dr. and Mrs. Charles Willis as a housekeeper.
She was a member of Zion Baptist Church and a foster parent.
Surviving are two daughters, Collette Norton and Denise Jackson, both of Evansville; two sons, Priestly Myers of Indianapolis and Dennis Jackson of Evansville; a brother, Joe L. Vaughn of Evansville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her caretaker, Virginia Reed.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Baptist Church, the Rev. R.V. Terry Jr. officiating, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, with a wake service from 6 to 8 p.m., at W.A. Gaines Funeral Home.
Robert Hart III
Robert Lee Hart III, 48, of Evansville, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of heart complications.
He had been an Evansville Park Ranger since 1982.
He was a member of Bible Center Cathedral and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 73 and was president of the North Annex Neighborhood Association.
He was a 1969 graduate of North High School.
Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Mary E.; a son, Robert Lee IV of Evansville; his parents, Bettye J. and Robert Lee Hart Jr. of Evansville; a sister, “Vickie” Gilbreath of Flat Rock, Ark.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bible Center Cathedral, the Revs. Rick and A.D. Van Hoose officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park, with F.O.P. Honor Guard rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel and from noon to service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the F.O.P.
Hiwana Crompton
Hiwana Louise Cupp Crompton, 70, formerly of Evansville, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at her home in Fort Defiance, Va., of a heart attack.
She worked as a guidance counselor for the Loudoun County, Va., School System and had been a teacher in Virginia.
She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, serving as their national historian, secretary and editor.
She was a graduate of James Madison College.
Surviving are her husband, Eugene; a daughter, Carol Snead of Leesburg, Va.; a son, Corey of Fredericksburg, Va.; a half brother, Terry Paul Cupp of Evansville; a granddaughter; and a stepgranddaughter.
A memorial gathering will be held from noon to 4 p.m. June 3 in Fort Defiance. Burial was private.
Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, Va., handled arrangements.

Mary Fellwock
Mary Louise Fellwock, 84, formerly of Evansville, died Oct. 1, 1999, in Alhambra, Calif.
She worked for the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp. as a cafeteria manager.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church on West Illinois Street.
Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Sue Schaar of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren, David, Jonathan and Rachel Schaar.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, and a son, Daniel.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. May 21 at Trinity Lutheran Church on West Illinois Street. Burial will be in Lutheran cemetery in Evansville.
Mountain View Mortuary in Altedena, Calif., is handling arrangements.
Elsie Robertson
HUNTINGBURG — Elsie Marie Robertson, 93, formerly of Huntingburg, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Columbus Health and Convalescent Center in Columbus.
She was a retired beautician and had operated shops in Indiana and Florida.
She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg, member and past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, member of the White Shrine and a charter member of the Huntingburg Business and Professional Women.
Surviving are a son, Don of Columbus; two grandchildren, Jennifer Ryan and Tim Robertson; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Howard A. “Happy, ” died in 1957.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Nass & Son Funeral Home, with burial in Fairmount cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children or to a favorite charity.
Hilbert Buchta
OTWELL — Hilbert F. Buchta, 84, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
He was a farmer.
He was a member of Traylor Union Church of God near Otwell, Masonic Lodge, the Shrine, Scottish Rite, NRA, National Trapshoot Association, Jasper Gun Club and the Ireland Sportsman Club.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma; four daughters, Janice Bauer of Washington, Beverly Abel of Shoals, Fay Smith of Otwell and Bonnie Buchta of Houston; a son, Larry of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Wilma Hudson and Annetta Garland, both of Winslow; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Kay Lamb and Mathilda Buchta.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home North Chapel in Jasper, with burial in Traylor Union cemetery near Otwell.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Leola Benning
MOUNT VERNON — Leola I. Benning, 95, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Mount Vernon Nursing & Rehabilitation
Center.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon.
Surviving is a niece.
Her husband, Elmer, died in 1987.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity United Church of Christ, with burial in Bellefontaine cemetery.

Raymond Schaaf
DALE — Raymond V. Schaaf, 94, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Professional Care Rehabilitation Center.
He was a farmer.
He was a 78-year member of Santa Claus United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his wife, Eloise (Roell); a daughter, Joan Wright of Indianapolis; a son, Kenneth Schaaf of Dale; three sisters, Mabell Roell and Emogene Van Meter, both of Dale, and Anna Louise Franks of Morganfield, Ky.; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Santa Claus United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Fuller Funeral Home Dale Chapel and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Hubert Ellis
PRINCETON — Hubert Ellis, 81, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Gibson General Hospital.
He owned and operated Princeton Price Less Foods grocery store for 13 years. He had owned and operated grocery stores in Princeton and Illinois for more than 55 years.
He was a member the First General Baptist Church of Princeton and a life member of Prince Masonic Lodge 231.
He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Naomi (Pavey); a daughter, Lillie “Cappy” Fitch of Princeton; three sons, Joe Ellis of Ocala, Fla., and Darwin and Gary Nelson, both of Princeton; a sister, Marjorie Cork of West Union, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Colvin Funeral Home, with burial in Maple Hill cemetery, with military rites.

James Overbay
WHEATLAND — James R. “Jim” Overbay, 85, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at his home.
He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of Wheatland First United Methodist Church and the Indiana Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine (Palmer); a daughter, Donna Kay Hughes of Vincennes; two grandchildren, Yvonne Worland and James R. Hughes; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McClure Funeral Home Bicknell Chapel, with burial in Wheatland cemetery.
