Silas Pierce
Silas Pierce, 82, of Cloverport, Ky., father of Marshall L. and William M. Pierce, both of Evansville, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Breckenridge Memorial Hospital.
He was the caretaker at the Cloverport cemetery for 21 years and had worked at the Dhonau Funeral Home for 27 years.
He was a member of the Cloverport United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are his wife Ola; three sisters, Louise Brown and Mary Dones, both of Louisville, Ky., and Freida Tiller of Valley Station, Ky.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Cloverport United Methodist Church, with burial in Cloverport cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport.
Charles Staley
Charles Manford Staley, 78, father of Karen Riggs and Gary Staley, both of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at his home in Terre Haute, Ind.
He retired from Conrail as a railroad engineer after 40 years.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of the Retired Men’s Railroad Association, Church of Christ in Clay City and he attended the World Gospel Church.
Also surviving are his wife, Shirley; a son, Larry J. of Westfield, Ind.; a sister, Magdalene Brandt of Walkerton, Ind.; two brothers, Marvin D. of Huntington, Ind., and Chester E. of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Callahan Funeral Home in Terre Haute, with burial in Highland Lawn cemetery.

Jack Amos
LOOGOOTEE, Ind. — Jack W. Amos, 50, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes of cancer.
He was a truck driver for Jefferson Trucking.
He was a Vietnam War veteran and member of the Petersburg Veterans of Foreign Wars and Loogootee American Legion.
Surviving are two daughters, Angela Cooper and Amy Richards, both of Vincennes; a sister, Diana Amos of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Frank of Petersburg; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. EST Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, with burial in Walnut Hills cemetery.

Eva Rutledge
VINCENNES, Ind. — Eva Jean Rutledge, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, in St. Paul, Minn.
She was Miss Kansas in 1937.
She received her master’s degree from Indiana University in 1979.
She was an active community leader and member of the First Christian Church, Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Vincennes Historical Society, Tri Kappa, Fort Nightly and Elks Club.
She was a volunteer in area hospitals and with the children of migrant farm workers in the 1970s.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane Flummerfelt of Lincoln, Mass., and Nancy Swan of Indianapolis; two sons, Dr. Edward and David, both of St. Paul, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.
Her husband, Wallace, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Vincennes, with a reception following; burial will be private.

Doris Garrett
PRINCETON, Ind. — Doris K. Garrett, 64, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville of heart failure.
She retired as office manager for Dr. Donald Joe Decker.
She was a member of the First General Baptist Church and attended the Hillside United Methodist Church in Princeton and the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Evansville with her family.
Surviving are a daughter, Suzanne G. Thomas of Princeton; a son, Roger D. of Evansville; a brother, Leo Raber of Albion, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Emily, Ellyn and Elissa Garrett and Elyse and Evan Thomas.
Her husband, Dale, died in 1962.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First General Baptist Church, with burial in Highland Memorial cemetery in Mount Carmel, Ill.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Colvin Funeral Home and from noon to service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to any of the three churches or the American Heart Association.
Arthur McLemore
WASHINGTON, Ind. — Arthur Ray McLemore, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Daviess Community Hospital.
He retired as a carman and lead inspector for Conrail in 1982.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Alford Masonic Lodge in Aurora, Ky., Charity Masonic Lodge in Washington, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine in Indianapolis, Moose in Petersburg and the Washington Boat Club.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce; two daughters, Sharon Hoover of Washington and Juliana McLemore of Goodland; four sisters, Josephine McRoberts of Princeton, Virginia Sessions of Jay, Fla., and Carley Leonard and Marguerite Fox, both of Washington; a brother, Leroy of Washington; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
Masonic services will be at 1:30 p.m. EST Saturday followed by funeral services at Sugarland Chapel, with burial in Sugarland Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to service time at the chapel. Gill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Anna Baker
OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — Anna Pearl Baker, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Petersburg Health Care Center.
She had been a seamstress for 45 years.
She attended the Oakland City Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are four daughters, Rebecca Ann Augenstein of Kansas City, Kan., Vicky Lynn Jennings of Richmond, Marva Pearl Wendel of Columbus, Ohio, and Mona Rae Baker of Oakland City; two sons, Marvin M. of Fort Worth, Texas, and Ivan Earl of Princeton; four sisters, Della Zink of Gainesville, Fla., Ruth Back and Donna Lewark, both of Leesburg, Fla., and Sonja Cartright of North Vernon; two brothers, Carl Castor of Fairland and Cunnard Castor of St. Cloud, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Darren Augenstein, Sherry Cunningham, Ala and Erik Blackburn, Audrey, Cindy and Christina Stewart, Amber, Matthew, Nathanael, Anna, Brent and Brittany Baker.
Her husband, Marvin, died in 1989.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Oakland City Church of the Nazarene, with burial in Montgomery cemetery.

Edwin Evans
BICKNELL, Ind. — Edwin Lee “Eddie” Evans, 50, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at the Beverly Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Indianapolis.
He had been a carpenter and an Army veteran.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Bicknell.
Surviving are a sister, Rhea Harper of Indianapolis; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Friday at Wampler-Shaw Funeral Home, with burial in Sandborn cemetery, with military rites.

Ira West
OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — Ira A. West, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.
He was a graduate of Mount Olympus High School and attended Oakland City College.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Inez; two daughters, Andra West of Oakland City and Janice Hyzy of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a son, Herbert West of Downers Grove, Ill.; a sister, Dolores Stephens of Oakland City; and four grandchildren, Katharine Hyzy and Kyle, Dristin and Kelly West.
Services were private. Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel in Evansville handled the arrangements.
Rosella Clark
Rosella (Payton) Clark, 78, of Evansville, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of cancer.
She was a member of the Methodist Temple.
Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Swanson of Wellesley, Mass., and Terri Tinsley of Mount Carmel, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Kelly Davis, Harry III and Sara Rose Clark, Emily Claire, Maggie Rose Tinsley and Christopher and Melanie Swanson; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Harry W., died in 1977 and a son, Harry W. Jr., died in 1999.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Stephen Johnson officiating, with entombment in Park Lawn Mausoleum.
