Lola Land
Lola Land, 78, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital from complications of cancer.
She and her late husband, William R., who died in 1971, operated Land Insurance Agency.
Surviving are three sons, Terry R. of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, William of Evansville and Steven of Denver; four grandchildren, Robert, Michele and Lori Land and Nikki Schooler; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Kenneth Steckler officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to service time at the funeral home.
Rosetta Ames
PRINCETON, Ind. — Rosetta I. Ames, 65, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville of cancer.
She had worked as a certified nursing assistant at Gibson General Hospital for nine years and at Holiday Manor Nursing Home for nine years.
She was a former board member and taught Sunday school at the First Church of the Nazarene and a member of the Ladies Fellowship.
Surviving are her husband of 45 years, the Rev. Laverne Ames; two daughters, Wanda Sturgeon of Winter Springs, Fla., and Dawn Perry of Patoka; two sisters, Marian Maron of Ovid, Mich., and Rebecca Thayer of St. Johns, Mich.; and a brother, Rolland Rathbun of St. Johns.
A daughter, Valerie Ames, died in 1972.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, with burial Saturday in St. Johns.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Colvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Dietrich Holst
GRANDVIEW, Ind. — Dietrich O. “Dede” Holst, 71, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at St. Mary’s Warrick in Boonville from heart failure.
He had been a factory worker.
He was a member of Bethel Christian Center in Rio and formerly attended Salem United Church of Christ.
He was a member of the Cattleman’s Breeders Association, Delaware Masonic Lodge and Rockport Eastern Star.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy May (Isabell); five daughters, Carolyn Miller and Marilyn Hopf, both of Huntingburg, Rebecca Reckelhoff of St. Anthony, Diane Bush of Baytown, Texas, and Denise Holst of Holland, Ind.; three stepdaughters, Dianna English and Deborah Flanagan, both of Kansas City, Kan., and Barbara Faye Lankford of Bonner Springs, Kan.; a son, Terry of Baytown; a sister, Marie Gallegos of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Albert of Huntingburg; nine grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
His first wife, Rosemarian (Harris) died in 1990.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Thursday at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg, with burial in Fairmount cemetery.

Helen Aiken
PRINCETON, Ind. — Helen M. Aiken, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.
She had been the manager for the Midland Heights Apartments in Princeton, formerly worked as office manager for the Hoosier Insurance Agency and had been the Gibson County secretary/treasurer for the March of Dimes.
She was a member of the Hillside United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Beth Smith of Princeton; a son, Bill of Springfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Tami, Danny Jr., David and Derek Smith and Bill, Neal and Abby Aiken; and four great-grandchildren.
Her husband, William, died in 1957.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Colvin Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Marilyn King
NEW BOSTON, Ind. — Marilyn (Luecke) King, 56, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at her home of cancer.
She had worked in the Spencer County auditor’s office.
She was a member of St. John Chrysostom Church.
Surviving are her husband of 31 years, Curtis; a daughter, Susan Lautner of Santa Claus; two sons, Eric of West Lafayette and Chris of Santa Claus; three sisters, Rita Schroeder of rural Cannelton, her twin sister, Carolyn Adkins of Tell City and Mary Raaf of Evansville; and a brother, John Paul Luecke of New Boston.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Thursday at St. John Chrysostom Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
There will be no visitation at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Spencer County Hospice.
Lenis Baker
HAYSVILLE, Ind. — Lenis W. Baker, 79, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at his home of cancer.
He retired from the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center.
He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 673, where he served on the rifle squad.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He served on the council for seven years.
Surviving are his wife, Melba; two daughters, Rebecca Hall of Jeffersonville and Margaret Baker of Avon; his mother, Evelyn Baker of Haysville; and three grandchildren, Justin and Eric Hall and Adam Birge.
A daughter, Mary Ann Baker, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with burial in St. Paul’s cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

Lois Scraper
PETERSBURG, Ind. — Lois Jane Malotte Scraper, 75, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at the Oaks at Forsyth Nursing Home in Winston-Salem, N.C., from complication of Alzheimer’s disease.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Marcia Kay Jones of Cary, N.C., and Janet Lee Schonhofen of Winston-Salem; a sister, Mary Markham of Evansville; a brother, Wayne Malotte of Petersburg; and a grandson, Ryan Jones.
Her husband, Donald O., died in 1983.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday EST at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Hills cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to service time at the funeral home.

Herbert Grimes
Herbert Grimes, 56, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of heart failure.
He worked as an engineer for Bethlehem Steel in Burns Harbor, Ind., retiring after 27 years.
He was a National Guard Reserve veteran.
He had attended Lincoln High School.
He was a sportsman and enjoyed navigating on the Great Lakes and the Ohio River.
Surviving are two daughters, Marvetta Kyenola Grimes of Indianapolis and Sha Ron Rachelle Grimes of Michigan City, Ind.; his mother, Margaret Grimes of Evansville; four sisters, Barbara Ann Arnold of Detroit, Linda Faye Watson of Evansville, Phyllis June Grimes of Gilbert, Ariz., and A. Demitra Savage of Tempe, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Hope Baptist Church, the Rev. W.R. Brown Jr. and the Rev. W.R. Brown Sr. officiating, with entombment in the Alexander Memorial Park Mausoleum
Friends may call from noon to service time at the church. Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
Marvin Sanders
Marvin L. Sanders, 77, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at his home from a heart condition.
He had been a horse trainer for more than 30 years.
Surviving are a sister, Fanny Mae Merrick of Newburgh; and nephews who cared for him, Ronald P. Frantz of Oakland City, Ind., and Raymond Frantz of Newburgh.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, with burial in Park Lawn cemetery.

Maurine Wallace
Maurine (Overfield) Wallace, 83, formerly of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at her home in Champaign, Ill.
She retired as a school librarian of the Rossville and Fisher school systems.
She was a 1934 graduate of Central High School, 1938 graduate of the University of Evansville and received her master’s degree in library science from the University of Illinois.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign, Gamma Epsilon Sigma sorority, Phi Beta Chi honorary science fraternity, Who’s Who of American Women and Daughters of American Colonists. She was an officer of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was elected to Beta Phi Mu honorary.
Surviving are a son, Alan Wallace of Midlothian, Ill.; a sister, Eileen Stoltz of Largo, Fla.; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Charles Edward, died in 1982.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m Monday at Oak Hill cemetery in Evansville, the Rev. Daniel R. Durell officiating. There will be no public visitation at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
