Charles Guard
Charles H. Guard, 82, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at his home.
He was in sales at Finke Furniture for 25 years and retired from furniture sale at L.S. Ayres Co.
He was a World War II Marine veteran.
He was a 50-year member of Central United Methodist Church and had been a Sunday school teacher for a teen-age boys’ class. He was boys’ basketball coach and a church administrative board member.
He was a 53-year member of Equality (Ill.) Masons and the Evansville Scottish Rite.
He was on the board of Evansville Boys Club and had been president and secretary.
He was a member of the “famous” Evansville College football team that did not score a point during the season.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret L. “Peg” (Finke); a daughter, Peggy Huey of Evansville; a son, Charles B. of Evansville; four grandchildren, Andy and Elizabeth Guard and Amy and Brent Huey; a great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. C. Mac Hamon officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church Love Fund.
Richard Stuckey
Richard L. Stuckey, 76, of Evansville, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at North Park Nursing Home.
He retired from Chrysler Corp.
Surviving are a daughter, Sherry Stepro of Philadelphia; a brother, Zeneth of Haubstadt, Ind.; two grandchildren, Damon Jones and Raven Green; and a friend who helped care for him, William Jackson of Evansville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexander Memorial Park Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Eugene Dewig officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time at the chapel.
Marietta Lindauer
FORT BRANCH, Ind. — Marietta F. Lindauer, 65, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
She worked at Haub Steak House for 10 years.
She was a member of Holy Cross Church and Fort Branch Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are four sons, Randall and Jeffery, both of Jasper, Donald of Fort Branch and Keith A. of Dubois; a sister, Henrietta Beier of St. Meinrad; and two grandchildren.
Her husband, Joseph E., preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Mansfield McBeth
VELPEN, Ind. — Mansfield “Mac” McBeth, 71, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Toys Garage in Montgomery of an apparent heart attack.
He retired from Graber Implements in Montgomery and worked part-time at Toys Garage.
He was a member of the General Baptist Church in Velpen.
Surviving are four daughters, Randi McBeth and Melisa Scraper, both of Velpen, Pamela Flener of French Lick and Kimberly Spencer of Vinton, Ohio; three sons, David of Petersburg, Thomas of Loogootee and John of Jasper; two sisters, Alma Hardt of Los Angeles and Lavee McVay of Ace, Texas; a brother, Buckner of Coppers Cove, Texas; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary E. (Hobbs) in 1999 and a son, Robert Leslie.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with burial in the Walnut Grove cemetery.

Austin Cooper
VINCENNES, Ind. — Austin J. Cooper, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at Crestview Nursing Home.
He was the superintendent of Reynolds Springs Manufacturing and a former tavern owner.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Robertsdale, Ala., Masonic Lodge in Jackson, Mich., and the Vincennes Elks, Eagles and Moose.
Surviving are a son, Austin Jr. of Boulder, Colo.; a sister, Ettafern Cupp of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
His wife, Marion, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Goodwin Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park cemetery.

James Ficklin
PETERSBURG, Ind. — James Byron Ficklin, 48, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper of heart failure.
He owned and operated Ficklin Auto Supply in Petersburg with his brother, Jon.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Moose Lodge and Odd Fellows.
Also surviving are his wife, Debby (Mosby); a daughter, Chelsea Jo Ficklin of Petersburg; and a son, Christian James of Bloomington.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with burial in Walnut Hills cemetery.

Nellie Helsley
BUCKSKIN, Ind. — Nellie A. Helsley, 94, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oakland City.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Stilwell of Boonville and Imolee June Buck of Buckskin; seven grandchildren, Marilyn Schmidt, Brenda Willis, Diane Jo Miley, Dirk and Dana Buck, Jeff Stilwell and Karen Shigley; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Ike, and a son, Robert, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, with burial in Somerville cemetery.

Phillip Vaughn
TELL CITY, Ind. — Phillip Tyler Vaughn, 26, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis of pneumonia.
He was a controller with Business Furniture Corp. of Indianapolis.
He was a 1991 graduate of Tell City High School and a 1995 graduate of Ball State University.
In high school he was chosen to play for the 1990-91 season North and South All-Stars game in Indianapolis. He also coached the elementary girls’ basketball team.
He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church and the Indiana CPA Society.
He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in Indianapolis.
Surviving are his wife, Angelique (Shearn); a son, Zachary Vaughn, at home; a brother, Bryan of Virginia Beach, Va.; and his parents, Jim and Diane (Weatherholt) Vaughn of Tell City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s cemetery.

TELL CITY, Ind. — Emma K. Rogier, 95, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church in Bristow.
Surviving are six daughters, Edith E. Huebschman of Huntsville, Ala., and Anna M. Miller, Olive K. Sabelhaus, Hazel L. Wallace, Freida M. and Rita A. Kessens, all of Tell City; a son, Clarence of Tell City; 28 grandchildren, Daniel J. Rogier, Cheryl Ann Duke, Kathy J. Stephens, Kenneth O., Mark D. and Shawn M. Huebschman, James A., Ernest, Lloyd and Joe Wallace, Mona L. Deom, Stephen W., Paul A., Carrol D., Christopher D., Jeremy A. and Kandi M. Kessens, Donna Heeke, Kimberly Schaefer, Charles W. Jr., Patricia F., Shella D., Dennis and Richard A. Miller, Carolyn S. Sitzman, Brenda Hildenbrandt, Rose M. Worner and Tammy L. Gassaway; 27 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Friday at St. Isidore Catholic Church, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery in Bristow.

Sylvester Klueh
FERDINAND, Ind. — Sylvester L. Klueh, 77, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Huntingburg of heart failure.
He was a Navy veteran.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church in St. Croix.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
His wife, Dorothy A. (Faulkenberg), preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Thursday at St. John’s Chrysostom Church in New Boston, with burial in the church cemetery.
